with the new ixtreme firmware working with the lite-on drives i have been trying to find a guide to see if you still need a probe to pull the drive key info. half of the ones i have found say yes and the others say with the new version of dos flash you dont. so which is it? any one know?

As far as I know you still need the probe. I kinda wish I had waited for this because I bought an older console with a Sammy drive and no HDMI. It freezes a bit and I'm afraid it's going to die. Wrong to feel that way about something like this. I hope Microsoft's next console is more reliable and still hackable.

You need a probe or the serial kit, which sends the key through to your serial port...

i googled how to flash the phillips drive and no luck

That is because PHILLIPS is the MFR, and there is the BenQ, and the LiteOn, so you did not search correctly.
