does anyone know if this new kick a$$ (SSD) Solid State Drive will work with the ps3 its 2.5 inch sata and it cost a pretty penny but runs like a dream ![]()

What drive? A Solid State Hard Drive that is designed for a laptop (2.5" SATA ect) will work. It's just a Hard Drive but instead of a physical disk it has flash memory. I don't think there is any reason why it wouldn;t work.

yeah, its the future of drives .. takes a whooping 1 minute to boot windows.... im just wondering if i should spend 300+ dollars on one

It works... I think it was Gamespot or Giantbomb that ran tests with a SSD and a regular PS3 sata drive (5400 RPM) and they didn't see too much improvement. I will try to find that article and link it, it was awhile ago.

One minute to load windows on SSD? It takes one minute to load windows for me on a 7200 RPM HDD.

You can use the SSDs, but it needs to be at least 20GB, so you're gonna pay.....

I know what they are you asked "does anyone know if this new kick a$$ (SSD) Solid State Drive will work with the ps3" That sounds like you are asking specifically if a drive will work. Like you had one in mind. And yeah I bet I boot Windows 7 in a min. or less with my drive. I believe it's 7200RPM

Did you count in your head? Try using a clock or watch next time it's more accurate, 1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000, 4-1000, 5-1000, 6-1000, 7-1000, 8-1000, 9-1000, 10-1000...................... ![]()
I don't care how quick my pc boots, It boots and runs like a bomb when it's running, although it's getting near the time when I do a full system format and reinstall my windows.

Mine boots fast. It all depends on what you are ALSO loading on start-up (all those ICONS in your system tray).
Speed doesn't mean anything when software holds up the machine no matter how fast it loads.
The initial boot is fast, it's just all what you load, and all the crap you accumulate...

I used a stop watch. I have like 5 quick launch icons, all programs i download are set NOT open/activate/initiate on start up. the pc itself is nothing special though.

IF fast booting is what you want, then use Hibernation instead of powering off; then it boots up INSTANTLY, AND; wow, right where you left off...

I do this during the day if I'm leaving my computer for maybe 30 minutes and it's not doign anything, no point wasting money on electricity.

Lab tests done by Dell show that a PC running Microsoft Office uses 42.7 watts. Now, if it runs continuously at that rate for 365 days, at about 7 cents per kilowatt-hour, the power consumption costs would be $26.18 for the PC and about $45.99 for a CRT monitor, for a total of $72.17 for the workstation (LCD is cheaper at $39.67 a year).
Now, for Hibernation and Stanby? Well, even this low power state, do you want to know how many watts the system is actually drawing?
Well, guess what? Even a "Turned Off" PC utilizes "flea power," or about 2.3 watts, to maintain local-area network connectivity (you can see your LAN LEDs still active with power off), among other things. In "hibernate" mode, your PC uses about the same 2.3 watts; in "sleep" or "Stand by" mode, your PC uses about 3.1 watts.
So, unless you completely UNPLUG the PC? You're still using about 2.5 watts on average, so, why not Hibernate or Sleep, so when you boot, it pops up where you were INSTANTLY... I do this if I turn the PC off an night, so I can pop on in the AM... There's no reason not too... The power consumption is unmentionable compared to what you THINK is a complete powered off state.

No point in my PC drawing full power if it's not getting used right.

What do you mean FULL power if not getting used right? Used right how, or do you mean "Not being used,(comma) right?(question mark)" The way you say it, "Not being used right." insinuates like an abusive behavior, ya know?
POWERED OFF: 2.5 Watts
HIBERNATION: 2.3 Watts
SLEEP/STANDBY: 3.1 Watts
FULL POWER: 43 Watts and MORE if using it for games and stuff.
So, I SLEEP mine IF I am not downloading, so when I turn it on, it pops up instantly, and that's that. What's 0.6 more watts from being what you think is completely SHUT DOWN? That 0.6 is probably just for flashing the LED to let you know it's in sleep/standby mode...
That full power is WAY off compared to how many HDDs people have in their systems these days, because even a HDD spinning all the time uses a good bit of wattage, both 12V and 5V. Else, why do we have these 200+Watt power supplies huh? USB devices, PCI cards, bla bla bla, all using power when ON, so 43watts seems mighty conservative.
HOWEVER if you download 5-8 BR-D movies a month, saving you $130.00 to 240.00 a month? What's an extra $20.00 a month on your electric bill? You saved that 5 to 11 times over... My Electric bill is roughly 60 - 70 a month, and jumps to 100.00 some times, and my PC is on MEDIA serving all the time, and/or downloading.... So, I save money, as I have not bought a movie in 5 months!

Yeah that's what I mean, if the PC gonna sit there doing nothing I put it in to SLEEP.
I only recently started downloading HD & Blu-ray rips, in fact 24 in the last few days plus still downloading ![]()

Solid state is awesome, it's faster at the chip, and very durable in terms of dropping and vibration; it's a silicon die. I'll probably use it in laptops when it becomes economically efficient/cheaper. I hope they make a faster bus standard for them and start putting them in x86 south bridges; they're probably choked by SATA II 3Gbps controllers.
