video out a/v problem

i dont know if this is the correct forum, but i suppose you will tell me if its not.

so i was trying to hook up my cable from the room across the hall, and it was apparently carrying an electrical charged, when the cable touched the tv, it sparked, then my tv died, and now my ps3 wont output to SD.

i tried different cables and a different tv, and it will play sound and it seems as though everything else is working okay, but i cant get the video to play out with standard a/v cables, and i dont have an hd tv to test with.

any idea what the problem could be? or how i can fix it. like where to look for broken solders or anything really.

thanks!

HAHA that's pretty funny.  If it's under warranty send it back.  If not...HDMI

Re: video out a/v problem

Wow that BLOWS!
Well, since the VIDEO is the only problem, try moving the back end of the A/V cables (the end connected to the ps3). Sometimes I lose my video and still have sound but when I move it around, the video comes back...its weird, i know, but give it a try.

Thank god i moved up to HD now smile

Re: video out a/v problem

Sounds to me like the spark has fried a few chips inside the PS3..... how did you pay for our PS3? If you bought it with a credit card or something like that, go to your bank and ask for a copy of that for those dates showing you that you bought the PS3 as it should have the name of the store you bught i from on there. No one wil isue you a copy of a recipt without any kind of conformation so this way it proves that you bought it from them then they have to give you a copy of your recipt Then hopeully you can send it back to sony.

Re: video out a/v problem

I'm kinda interested in how that cable became charged.  You might be able to pin the blame on the cable company, and make them pay to have your PS3 and/or TV fixed.

Re: video out a/v problem

Old i know.

Cables all carry an electrical charge, duh, thats why they're in the rubber. You're not supposed to run any cable across a floor (carpeted especially) because it can set fires if theres like a thunderstorm or something. Notice how all cable are run along the corners of the walls by the installing guys who setup your cable/dish? Thats not only to be neat and out of the way but also because its a fire safety hazard to run them right across the floor.

Anyway, some cable guy told me this when he refused to run a cable where i wanted, saying he couldnt cuz the company would end up liable if anything did happen.
