first of all you should have created a login earlier in the installation process, and that's what you would use there.
secondly i believe that if you turn your PS3 off, then push and hold the power button for about 5 seconds as you turn it on, it should make a beeping sound and force load the PS3 OS. This wil reset all your display settings just so you know.

When the PS3 booting then in the kboot prompt write "boot-game-os" and return, then PS3 rebooting and boot
to the PS3 OS...

I think what you have to do if you did not set a username is you either have to some how find a way to set one now, or you are going to have to reboot the ps3 by restoring the whle ps3 and formatting the hard drive agian. then install the other os again but this time make a login name.

I never got a prompt either to create a username. I intalled YDL on one TV that displayed 1080i but not 720p and I had to install it under the text install. I reformatted the hard drive and re-installed it on the big screen which is capable of 720p and that's when I got the create a username screen. I think there may be an issue with installing YDL in the text format. Both niktaw and ilap's suggestions work to get back to the PS3's Game OS.

why don't u try "root" for the username and then ur password, that's how it was for me when i installed fedora core 5...might be the same

I think the default username if it doesn't ask you to create one is "root" that's how the instructions for YDL were and it just so happened to work for fedora too.
