PS3-Hacks.com / ps3 wont detect media server

I have set up a media server on my computer running windows XP sp2 with wmp11 and simplecenter and my ps3 will not detect either. WMP11 detects the PS3 but the PS3 doesn't detect it. I have a linksys "befsr41" router, i've tried tinkering with the settings for several hours to no avail. The darn thing just wont detect a media server. Ive read multiple tutorials and spent serval hours and now i come to yall. Any ideas?

You shouldn't need to touch your router, first off, have you allowed the PS3 access to your media through the settings of windows media player.

Also you need to share something as well.

Theirs a full tutorial in the "Tutorials" section, that might help you discover the problem.

Turn the media sharing thing on in the network settings on the PS3 in the XMB. If I wasn't on my phone at work I would give you the link.

Here's how I did it.

1.Turn off media sharing on the ps3 and shutdown the ps3
2.Stop sharing on the pc and shut it down
3.Turn the router off for 10 seconds.

4.Turn on the ps3 and enable media sharing
5.Turn on the pc and router and enable media sharing in WMP 11

Thats worked for me several times.

If your going to turn your ps3 off then turning the media sharing thing off won't do anything. Also turn your router on before your pc and PS3 and let it boot up

Thanks for the replies and ideas but none of them have worked thus far. I have read the tutorials and enabled the media server setting on my ps3. I have properly set up TVersity and it does not display either. Has anyone had a similar problem?

figured it out, turns out the problem is router specific to the befsr41. You have to go to Security and enable Filter Multicast. Thanks for the help guys, but another 3 hours of diggin around online turned something useful up. Stay away from the befsr41 if you are in the market for a router.

I have a BEFSR41 V3 and Ive had it for well over 4 years with not one single problem.
