I read that its just a Digital/DVD Recorder. It was released is 2004 in Japan, they planed on releasing it to other territories but the sales were low.

Yeah, that is SO OLD. I would have gotten one for the features it has... A PS2 with bells and whistles.
Today's Lesson:
The PSX was to come with a 160GB to 500GB hard drive to record television, movies, digital photos, or to play PlayStation 2 and PlayStation titles. The PSX can be linked with the portable PSP device to transfer videos and music. There is also the indication that the PSX could be linked with the P3, meaning that existing PSX owners will not be left out. This could possibly mean that the base version of the PS3 would connect to the PSX to form the “home server” version of the PS3. In 2005 these plans were postponed indefinitely due to low sales...
Features:
120 - 500GB Hard Disk (Model Specific).
DVD-R/-RW (8x/4x) and DVD+R/+RW (8x/4x), and added DVD+R dual-layer support.
Improved TV reception technology (7700).
10/100Mbit/s Ethernet connection.
Improved video, photo and music editing tools.
Record programs automatically, based on keywords entered by the user.
DJ-box feature- create custom music playlists based on the mood setting chosen by the user.
x-Pict Story- to create animated photo slide shows.

its a ps2 with built in dvr. its nothing special. it sold terrible and never got outside of jp.
would probably be better off trying a japanese auction site. they are few and far between in usa, and expensive.
it would useless though because its outdate, firmware wise, and its in japanese.

Does look very nice, would be nice if could someone could make that same casing for the PS3.

One controller port and what a place to put it...Sony don't half have the ability to put really stupid ideas into practice!

I don't know where you see ONE controller port, there are TWO, just like the PS2 has. They are stacked, not side by side, LOOK AGAIN...

Ahh, thought that might have been a memory card slot.

Even so, it would be SLOTS, as there are TWO of those ports...
I don't see the memory slots on the unit, but the specs say they're there...

I wonder if HDD Loader and other exploits would work on it?

Looks like there's a door at the front to the right (you can just make out the lip that you pull) so it could possibly be there.

jawn do you have the original ps1 model # SCPH-1001 with the separate rca ports on the back? those have some amazing sound when u listen to cd's. u gota leave it on though to get the best sound.
notice the separate rca out and not just av multi out.

Oh, PSX is what the original PlayStation is called to distinguish it from it's newer and smaller version, the PS1. I guess they just wanted to use the name again or maybe they half-expected the PSX in this thread to sell poorly and only have it in Japan or something, but you were right to think that the original PlayStation got name PSX.

psx was used b4 the playstation was out cause they called it the playstation experiment. alot of people continued to call it psx after the release. the slim ps1 took the name psone and the old fat one was always ps1. at least this is what my memory tells me about those days.
