converting a stock 40gb PS3 hdd to use on PC

I bought a usb external hdd casing but my olf 40 gb is not even in the Disk Management.

I tried the hdd with ps3..no problem. I tried the casing with other hdd, no problem..

I tried other casing with my hdd, it cannot read..doesnt even appear in the usb device list...but its working flawlessly in ps3.. -_-

anybody can help?..

Place it INTERNAL on an IDE chain, then do the partition and formatting.  When done, place it in the external case and see what happens.   It isn't being recognized because the format is foreign.

If it's not showing up on a PC at all it's because it isn't formatted. Download Partition Magic (where from is up to you, I'm not suggesting anything). When you run it you will see the HDDs connected, but be aware that it will include the PC's main internal HDD which has Windows installed on it...try not to format that lol!

If you put it into an external case you'd be able to switch between PC and PS3 as long as you're in FAT32, but it you do have it internally then NTFS would be better, though FAT32 would still be fine.
