We know that the PS3 will play only the BD movies from its region but what about normal dvd movies??

BD movies are region free actually, but DVDs are not, so you can only play DVDs from your region.

You are a bit wrong yu know...http://digitalbattle.com/2006/09/25/confirmed-ps3-is-region-free/
If someone else knows anything further plz post

hmm..seems as though that little article of yours actually proves me right and you wrong. PS3 games and Blue Ray movies are region free, as your article there states, DVD movies and PS2/PS1 games are not. Not sure what part of that you're having trouble with.

That means that the DVDs are region free and the Blu-ray games also but not the Blu-ray movies as it says here... http://digitalbattle.com/2006/09/25/con … ion-free/.
During an interview with Wired, Sony’s Phil Harrison confirmed that the PS3 will have region free games, including those downloaded from the PS3 online service. This means games from other territories can be played on a console, which is good news for the gamers primarily interested in importing Japanese games. Harrison also said that Blu-ray movies will not be region free

If you want to store movies on your ps3's drive you can rip them from dvd to your computer or **cough** get them **cough** on the internet. Then convert with something like http://www.redkawa.com/videoconverters/ps3video9/
Copy to a flash drive, burn to a cd/dvd, or pull from your computer to your ps3 (if you have the red kawa file server), copy to your ps3, and voila.

Is there any way to make my PS3 play movies from all the regions? Something like a program or a hardware chip that allows that?

Not any time soon ari3n. You could just rip the current dvds you have and convert them and trasfer them to your 20 or 60gb ps3. I think it will be more convinient like that.
Hey foxer do you think anyone will work on a launcher for the jap ps3's were you can backup the whole ps2/ ps1 game directly to the ps3 hard-drive and be able to play them directly with out the disc, that would be wicked sick. I think it would be like an iso laucher directly from the ps3 xmb or thru linux, that would be an awsome but improbable theory?

I don't think people can do that kind of emulation stuff just yet but, with Linux, u never know
I'd love if u could do that kind of emulation. By the way, with the right converter/ dvd ripper, u can supposedly change movies to be region free. I don't have any foreign movies 2 test it with, though.
But remember, many many many things are possible with the power of Linux!

The DISC itself can have a region code, but if the PLAYER itself is region free, it should be able to play them. I have a DVD Recorder, and they are usually region free drives in the unit. This was all covered over at another forum for DVD recorders. The unit will see the REGION on the disc, and ignore it, and play it anyway. IF the PS3 is truly region free, then the drive itself does not have any RCx set in the firmware. The PS3 O/S would be responsible either allowing or denying the disc.

if what you say is true then why is the ps3 region free but cant play region 1 ps2 games they are dvds. I know people are going to flame me but i just wanted to argue with someone. LOL.

PS1 games aren't dvds, are they? I though that was only PS2 games. ![]()

the ps3 drive is region locked.
blueray disc's have no region code on them.
back films do work yes but normaly the region code has been removed.
even if its a retail rip sometimes the region is not copied.
drive is region locked.

Hi Guys.
I could not really find an answer to the following question on google, only unclear statements or also contradictory opinions. So I am looking for a real life response to understand whats possible and what not.
If I create backup of a BlueRay-Movie on a BlueRay disc. Will PS3 be able to play the backup of my movie?
In case this is not possible, is there any other way to playback BR's movies with the PS3, e.g. from the local or an external HDD?
Thanks

i'm almost sure if you have an program that can copy bluray movies, and you have an bluray burner, the ps3 will play them.
btw , you digged up an really old post ![]()

If you back it up properly, it will play it.
In case this is not possible, is there any other way to playback BR's movies with the PS3, e.g. from the local or an external HDD?
No, not external, the Fat/Fat32 file system is the only one that you can use, AND, the Fat32 file system has a 4GB file size limit. The DVD9 system would work with a converted FILE. It's all how YOU do the backup.

A proper 720p rip will not take more than a DVD 9, so you can put that ONE file on there, and watch it. If you get a .MKV file, then use MKV2VOB, works wonders, it's like Jesus himself performed a miracle.

Do people still burn movies on discs? Can't remember the last time I burned a movie or show on to a DVD be it 5 or 9 format, it's just so much easier streaming them with PMS.
