I've decided as my ps3 is not connected to any form of TV i might aswell get around to upgrading my 40gb hard drive to 160Gb. I will eventually intend on using play tv and also sticking pretty much all my favourite films ever on it. i know how to physically install/backup but this is to analyse reliablity/speed over cost/size. I may go for 250/320 Gb or even more but i'm just looking to see what brand/functions are best.

Contestant number one is a 'Seagate 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATA 5400rpm 8MB Cache - OEM', it boasts a 5 year warrenty and also a 256-MB non-voiltile cache memory which i think means faster transfer rate. however will the PS3 make use of this?

bad points- well solely that 256 memory may be wasted if the ps3 doesn't want it. and if it did it would then put the hard drive to sleep, if anything this is good as it would allow it to cool for so much but then when the ps3 wants to use the hard drive will i have to wait until the motor's back on. is this noticeable amount of time like 5 seconds or even more?

Contestant number two is a classy young fellow 'Toshiba MK1637GSX 160GB 2.5" Hard Drive SATA 5400rpm 8MB Cache - OEM'

whilst the others have 150mbps data transfer rate this one has 300. thats almost double!

bad-no advertised warrenty, the others(Fujitsu doesn't make a claim) claim non recoverable errors of 1 in 10^14, this one has 1 in 10^13, a 900% increase is alot or am i making a mountain from a molehill?

good points-word of mouth(/internet) these are pretty reliable but not as much as the seagate.

i'm thinking the seagate. the warrenty is a bonus but obvilously if that 256memory only heeds it by turning the motor off and i'm waiting a while then it can become a hassle. if i could somehow turn that function off i wouldn't hesitate.

Edit: that ended up like blind date or some other equally poor show.
