Update 06/11/07
Mkv2HD-AVC for ps3 is a simple GUI designed to make any mkv video file with an AC3 or DTS sound track
into a PS3 compatable HDAVC file.
It requires lots of free HDD space as we need to de multiplex and re-encode certain files.
For some strange reason the dts to ac3 process has trouble running besweet so you need to run the
sorry.exe in the mkv2hdvc dir when prompted(built with dot.net as i only have vb6 or c# installed).
Usage:
Check the nfo file you got with your mkv to see if the audio is ac3 or dts.
Run GUI and choose the mkv to convert and choose the audio format of your mkv then press convert.
It will ask for a save location then it should de-mux the mkv file then run h264info ONLY change the level setting to 4.1
DO Not change any of the path values or any thing else just type 4.1 in the levels box then start.
When its finished close it down and it will re-mux the file to a vob file dont worry this is what we want.
To play back on PS3 i use tversity media server to stream it, it will show up as mpeg2 in xmb but does not need transcoding
you can also copy it to the ps3 hdd with the triangle button and then its shows up avc in xmb.
You should also be able to burn to dvd using nero i think you would use the dvd-rom udf settings although i have not tried it.
It needs the vb6 runtimes/dot net installed on your pc and to be ran as administrator in vista.
Change Log:
V1.00
Added DTS to AC3 Support
Beta 01
Beta Release
Known Issues:
If you get error 58 file exists.
it moves your orig mkv to c:\movie.mkv and should movie it back if sucsessful
the process failed somewhere and it did not move it back to the orig mkv.
delete c:\movie.mkv or move somewhere else and delete any *.h264/ac3/wave/dts files in c: and try again.

sounds good. I use a program called GOTSent > http://www.videohelp.com/tools/GOTSent
it seems to work fine on a couple of tv episodes I converted from mkv and it will also try and convert DTS and OGG audio as well as AC3. it requires Haali Media Splitter and AC3 Filter installed. Uses ffmpeg, mkvtoolnix and mp4box.
I'm gonna download this though, it sounds neat.

I get >
'Error 58'
cannot open file as
File already exists
or something.
He's probly not gonna post back though as it looks like he only registered to plug his proggy.
anyone else have this problem?

delete c:\movie.mkv and any *.h264/ac3 files in c: and try again.
also make sure your mkv has ac3 sound not dts.
