i was thinking of a crazy idea of trying to get xbox 360s os somehow and install it on ps3 and call it a ps 360 lol is it possible? anyone? please and thanx

No way in, well, you know...
They may both be PowerPC type CPUs, but the way they execute code are radically different.

Well, he meant as the OtherOS, so it will basicly run as a "linux"...
Tho I don't think it's possible, but hey, he got sum nice idea ;]

I suppose if the code was dramatically altered/rewritten from scratch, you could.
But, no graphics support, et cetera.

That would be quite worthless, install Linux, then have an XB360 emulator in TOP of the the linux? No way in hell. It's bat enough the XB360 needs 9.6Ghz of power, and any emulator host has to have at least DOUBLE that for an emulator to work in native code, let alone on top of linux. Since there is no RSX access? You would need a 38.4Ghz machine to emulate an XB360 without access to the hardware, so all graphic routines are EMULATED... PS3 is no where near that, so forget it.
I Remember when a 266Mhz machine could not emulate a 4.7Mhz CPU fast enough... You basically need a software CPU, since there is no hardware. You need to also LOCK the timing in which the software emulated CPU runs so the games play the same speed, no matter how fast the CPU is. So, if a 6510 CPU is emulated at 4.7Mhz for a Commodore-64, on a 300Mhx machine runs good, it cannot run faster on a 600Mhz machine, it has to be locked to run at 4.7Mhz. It is not as easy as one thinks, to emulate another CPU on a PC with a completely different CPU. You have to make the software bridge between work like this:
The CPU emulated must access it's native locations to video, memory, interfaces, and so forth. Your CPU will not access the same memory locations as the emulated CPU, so, the software "bridge" sets up fake memory/interface locations for the emulated CPU, while your CPU does all the work running it. Neat how it all works, but WOW, a 360 on a PS3? No way...

the ps3 is too weak to run 360, and vice versa. not to mention that the "OS" is heavily encrypted and without sourcecode, you can't modify it to run on any other hardware.

ok thanks to all that replied it was worth a try

How about a Wii/GC?

"How about emulate my Honda Civic 06 on my Ps3, is it possible?"
Of course not, the computer-box uses a totally different system.
This seems like a never ending question.. "Can i emulate THAT on THAT machine, or why not?"..
Well first off, using Linux is already slow enough to make u cry. So emulate more advanced under Linux is nowhere near possible yet. Second, there isnt even a real NGC emulator out which can emulate all games (just some demos etc, or at least it werent 6 mounths ago). Third, IF someone manages to make a emulator to run on the Ps3, they need the encryption-key to sign the code to be able to run the application at all, or they need full access to the Ps3 trough Linux.
Either way isnt possible yet..
EDIT: Misstyped "Linux" to "Linus".. lol..

I'm not asking you how to, I am asking if it is physically possible to emulate a Gamecube or a Wii, becasue both of those have very little power. I know that we dont know how to sign the games, ok?

The Wii CPU is a 729 MHz IBM PowerPC "Broadway" chip, and 243 MHz ATI "Hollywood" GPU. You need about 2.9Ghz of power just to emulate the CPU, and all the reroute operations where they need to be routed (memory handling, GPU instructions translated to the PS3s GPU instructions). Still, without access to the HARDWARE accelleration features of the RSX for PS3, you are not going to get 100% emulation.
Game Cube, perhaps, because that only had a 485MHz "Gecko" CPU, and a 162MHz GPU. All these consoles, from Game Cube up are using PowerPC based CPUs, except the PS2's Emotion Engine, a general purpose MIPS variant CPU (294 MHz & 299 MHz on newer version PS2s). The PS2 GS (Graphic Synthesizer @ 147 MHz) is not even classified as a GPU. Think about it; Look at the LOW power the PS2 had, compared to the original XBox, yet the PS2 was the more popular system, and good graphics too.
It will take YEARS before anything cool is emulated on PS3 or XBOX360. I can wait...

Depends what you consider cool, I would like to see a SNES emulator up and running, myself.

SNES and other emulators are more like PSP homebrew, weve got through the security there, so we can run these codes. With the PS3, sony have learned from their mistakes and built the thing like fort knox. Just my two cents, dont hold your breath waiting for homebrew or emulators, because it either:
1: Isn't happening soon
or
2: Isn't happening at all.
Plus witht he limitations about power, and CPU, its not looking likely.

Trust me, It'll happen, Its just a matter of when.

Yeah, im also sure about that.. But i have no expectations of it happening in the near 1-2 years..

Sony think the ps3 will last about 10 years in its production lifetime (hehe, business studies
)
So 1-2 years wont be that long to wait if we had some homebrew for 8 years.
Has anyone got the PS3 launch guide from official ps2 magazine (UK) it says most of this in there.
