PSW Mag #95 wrote:
Bedroom coding is coming back; at least if Sony's Worldwide Studios head honcho Phil Harrison has anything to do with it, with what Sony is neatly marketing as PlayStation Beyond.
Sony plans to embrace the Homebrew community by unlocking areas of the PS3's innards for hardcore bedroom coders currently illegally hacking the likes of PSP are being coaxed out of their bedrooms to play around inside the PS3.
This kind of thing was big back in the Eighties at the birth of videogames, and in fact many of today's top rank coders began by hacking away at C64 versions of Defender in their bedrooms.
As Harrison says, "You'd spend hours typing in the code, line-by-line, and then countless hours debugging it to make it work, and then you'd realise the game was rubbish after all that effort!"
Hackers, Welcome
In the past, Sony's message has been confused. On the one hand, it encouraged bedroom programmers in the days of PSone and PS2 with its Net Yaroze software, but recently has flexed its muscle to condemn legit PSP Homebrew programmers and stifle their talents with shackling versions of the handheld's Firmware. The hack-o-meter is swinging back in the bedroom coder's favour.
What do you guys think? If this is true I'm more than happy with what they are thinking of doing!

If they allow this, they may do it like M$ is doing it with XNA. They allow you to write home-brew games, then they are sent to M$ for approval. You even pay for the XNA service. If all is ok, they code and sign it, and place it on the Market Place for download. Sony would be foolish to allow direct home-brew programming on the PS3 itself. With M$, you need a PC with the development tools.... We'll see what is what...

i heard tha same exact thing a couple months back in an Interveiw with Phil & he said tha same thing, it would be a smart move on Sony because they will know a lot more of whats going on in the Homebrew scene & we will get more input on what the PS3 should do for us..... CUSTOM ICONS & WAVE EFFECT like PSP is what i want.

well the mag does have a direct quote from phil harrison so I very wel could be true but other than that I really hope that happens I can't wait to start coding for the PS3 oh and this could be a very good move for sony console sales wise.

it is a possibilities...imagine....most coders are keen to hack the consoles in order to make it do what it cant do due to it's limited potentials set by the big company....but in order to do so....they have open up holes for pirates as well...even it is not intended to....so if sony open up homebrew and have a way to make sure they can still lock the sys to hinder pirates....it is not something that they will not do...it's help them in terms of sales as well as making reputations for themselves among the bedrooms coders..believe me...hackers are the best coders......imagine DAX...hail the king.......
