This is my idea
I have read the new features of the new firmware and Found that the Ps3 can play PS1 games that have been downloaded for the PSP. I haven't tested whether the Ps3 can read the PSP for the Ps1 game, but if it can it could possibly mean that a modified Ps1 game could load up homebrew the way GTA:LS used to load homebrew for the PSP. One benefit of this way could mean that PSP programers could start programing the Ps3 since they already know how to decrypt the PS1 games from the Playstation Store, it wouldn't be hard to encrypt it back for the Ps3.

If you did get that working im sure you would be limited to the power of the ps1/ps2 unless you were just using it to crash the ps3

But how many examples of homebrew are more powerful than a PS2. Another thing is the exploit would just be needed to get the Ps3 to run unsigned code, once programmers know the ps3 runs programs they could even dump the Ps3's firmware and make a custom one, and once they have that they can bring on the ISO loaders

What is also being looked into, is the same kind of firmware hack that is being used on the XBox360 now. The drive does the security check on the game to be sure they are authentic. Well, this has been taken care of with the XB360, but you still inject the security sector into the game manually once you made the ISO backup. The security has not been compeltely eliminated, just made weak for backups.
If you have downloaded a PS1 game from Sony to the PSP, then it is marked as authorized, and signed to run on YOUR psp. If that game from the PSP runs on the PS3, then that may be something they messed up with. That would mean that the PS1 download game only need to be SIGNED to run, and is not console specific.
When you download content/games from XBOX LIVE, it is signed and registered so that it only runs from the HDD it was downloaded to. If you try and put it on someone else's HDD with a 3rd party program, it doesn't work. Even Xbox360 gamesaves are being made that way, you have to MOVE them, but copying doesn't work most of the time. Once you move the gamsave or content to a MEM card, it is OFF the Hard disk, and will now only run from the memory card... Lots os security with XB360... At least with PS3 you can use someone else's game save, for now....

Lol true

Well the only way we can test it is somone kind must try and load a Ps1 game on their Ps3. If that can happen there can only be good things for Ps3

Load the PS1 game to the PS3 how? Do you, or anyone (just asking) know where a PS1 download from the on-line site goes? Still, you paid for it, so it is legal to have and run.
A PS1 disc would have to be made into the same format used when downloaded, and stored on the PS3 as files, to where they are supposed to go. Also, the AUDIO tracks (some PS3 games are multi-mode discs = DATA/AUDIO) have to be being converted to MP3 or other compressed audio for use, because a bunch PS1 games would soon fill up your drive with full size audio tracks (50Mb average). Games that do not rely on separate audio tracks are the most likely candidates for download at the PS3 store.
They are changed to run on PS3, because the original PS1 discs have very little copy protection, and you can actually view the files from a PC CD-rom, copy them to the PC and look them over. With a modchip for your little PSX, you can even write them to a CD and run them, you just lose any audio tracks if it was a multi-mode disc, which is the MAIN reason DISC-DISC copies and ISO files are made with PSX games too.
Since downloads are NOT coming from disc, the program that is launched has to be changed considerably. #1, since there is no DISC, no need for a security check, so that is rewritten. #2, security ADDED so you can't just copy the files from a PSX disc to the PS3 and run the launcher. SO, they probably jusy make a completely different launcher for the title. You need to know what the PS3 demands when looking at the launch file for the PSX title, and how it is stored on the PS3. This will all happen ONE DAY, just not right now. The PSX titles are still signed to run on the PS3 it is downloaded to.

I would think sony would make things different then PSP.
Really, they would want to make money with their bread and butter machine.
From mistakes they made with PSP, they have tightened up PS3.
For i.e. rsx is tighter then gay men's jeans. Even programmers have hard time getting things done.
And I think, only reason why paradox and other software hackers not releasing loader or anything like that is because they can't get through that wall.

yes but It will soon be hacked
A very fine example is Windows Vista, Microsoft claimed that is was "hacker proof" but after a few days you could buy it for $7.00

Yes but a ps3 is not vista and windows has more bugs then hell in it......if Microsoft made a car everyone would take it back....

But all software is still lines of code, they can't keep it safe 4 =ever as somone will find an exloit. If you look at all the firmware sony has on the psp and the way programmers can decrypt it, it won't take long before somone finds a hole in their code. Still every on who has seen psp hacks knows that things will be hacked(even my camera has a hack lol)

well i hope so...

Sorry if this is off topic but is there a ps1 game decrypter? If you decrypt them, you might be able to customize them and sinse there is no copy protection (ie you can play backups of ps1 games with out a modchip) you might be able to open up holes and use it for homebrew.

Well Ps1 games can be decrypted for the PSP, so we know what types of code the Ps3 can read(since the Popstation was originally meant for PS3 owners with PSPs) all it takes is some clever programmer to insert their own code into the Ps1 games

Yeah but on Vista, you can see the OS's files and stuff. If you could dump the OS on the PS3, someone might be able to find its weaknesses by reverse engineering it.
