Hack your PlayStation 3

Remote Play Patch for non-VAIO & Vista PC’s

That same hack by NTAuthority can be re-used, with a few extra steps, to enable Remote Play on non-VAIO PC’s running Vista. And if you’re running Vista, for whatever reason, I feel for you. Anyway, here we go:

What you need:

  1. VAIO Remote Play for Windows 7.
    [download]
  2. NTAuthority’s Remote Play Patch.
    [download]
  3. A Hex Editor, like HxD for example.
    [download]
  4. aser32.dll from teraapi’s user32hooking project.
    [download]

What you do:

  1. Follow NTAuthority’s guide first; that involves installing VAIO Remote Play and the initial patching. See here or the included read me.
  2. Install your Hex Editor of choice and open it.
  3. Open the following file in said hex editor:
    • (32 bit):
      “%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3\UFCore.dll”
    • (64 bit):
      “%programfiles(x86)%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3\UFCore.dll”
  4. Search for the string “USER32″ and replace that string with “ASER32″. Click screenshot to enlarge:
    UFCore.dll Hex Edit Screenshot
  5. Save UFCore.dll and exit the hex editor.
  6. Copy the aser32.dll to
    • (32 bit):
      “%programfiles%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3″
    • (64 bit):
      “%programfiles(x86)%\Sony\Remote Play with PlayStation 3″
  7. Run Remote Play and hope for the best.

Note: If you get this error, “Remote Play with Playstation 3 cannot be used in this screen mode. Remote Play with Playstation 3 will quit.” Then change your resolution to something lower than 1920×1200.

I haven’t tested this with Vista — that ain’t me. I can however confirm that NTAuthority’s patch on Windows 7 works great.

Props to ned.smitty for the guide.

Happy Remote Playing!

    I also get the crash.

With a hex editor I opened the VPR.exe VPRIU.exe and searched for USER32 and replaced with ASER32.

This particular step stopped the crashing for me and would look like it works before telling you that it fails. Also you can connect to the ps3 with your wireless card.

^ I dont know if anyone can take it futher than me but If someone finds a solution I would like to know.

Hi guys can you please tell me what’s causing my PS3 remote play app to crash? Here’s problem’s report:

    Application Name: VRPUI.exe
    Version: 1.0.0.15090
    Module which caused crash: MSVCR80.dll

  18. Anonymous says:

    VRPUI.exe also crashes.
    Vista Ultimate 64

  19. DangerMouse says:

    Windows Vista x64

followed instructions to a T and getting the same crash as reported by others. It loads the

VRP.exe but once you enter in the Register Device number for PC from PS3 and try to continue

the VRPUI.exe crashes where it could say it could take up to 1 minute.

I chose Debug with my Visual Studio 2008 and here’s what it says:

An unhandled win32 exception occured in VRPUI.exe [5948]

once loaded with Microsft Visual Studio I break the application and the point at which it

    crashes is this line:

    734CBD93 and dword ptr ds:[73554920h],0

Don’t know if this helps anyone to understand what is going on.. but I’m stuck here at trying to fix the problem. Anyone know how to fix this?

  20. DangerMouse says:

Note: it also states under the Call Stack window:

    msvcr80.dll!734cbd93()

  21. DangerMouse says:

Found some information about the msvcr80.dll from:
