For what it’s worth, Geohot explains the PS3 security at the Nuit Da Hack conference in Paris. To quickly summarize: PS3 security is tight, but it isn’t unhackable. The PS3 is hacked at a theoretical level and the rest is up to you — the other hardcores out there. Geohot has no plans to release an “easy custom firmware” – not like Dark_AleX on the PSP. Oh, and blackra1n (iPhone hack) users are generally stupid.

Where are good references for the hardware?
Has anyone tried the virtualizaton approach? run the guest OS overtop the host OS while it’s running… should work in theory? It could be designed like any other application. Or what about live booting? People said that wasn’t possible.

If Mr. Geohot would have come up with a working CFW, u guys would have been the first ppl to call out cheers on him. So, cut it out and stop whining. If u guys are that smart than get going and come up with something usefull. Geohot deserves a lot of gratitude for what he did. The only one to blame is Sony, steeling the otherOS ability from us, doesn’t matter if you use it or not – it’s our, we paid for it.

geohot is skilled but he fucked up this time with the ps3 since he’s cfw 3.21 it was out 3.30 and now 3.40 and there are some ppl still on 3.15 without playing waiting for the CFW something that sony already know how he did it for the cfw its just take out a simple part of the 3.21 fw and replace that part with the .3.15 and encrypt it with his exploit using mtldr and its done thats why he say that we dont need to open ps3 but e didn’t say that to u instal the cfw u need to run his exploit because when u r to instal the firmware the ps3 encrypt it with only your ps3 code so if this is out he must change something on the cfw to be friendly user ,its been months away since he reveals his cfw and ppl start to get mad with him ,one way now we can get lv1,and lv2 dumps for studying and find a hole to realy get something cool like homebrew free region get off ext32 hdd unplugs and of course the so waited ISOLOADER but u must wait months to get that ,and other way is that he fuck up with this sony get off the other OS and off course sony changed the keys in the hardware of ps3 so for all of us we r fucked if we want to get those things in the future and sony will fight all time with news updates and ps3 will get more and more secure ,i hope next time some dev release their work,and without posting news from the projects or something like that!!some cfw or something like that and that is unpachable and then sony is fucked up,if this last months the hackers devs are realy too quiet its for sure because they r working on something and one day just gets on the net and boom sony its fucked againg with the ps3!!

why do you need the ps3 to be hacked any way. most of you people own a pc right. nothing on the pc is blocked so make homebrew on pc. u can illegally download games for free. cause lets face it thats the only reason why we want to hack the ps3 to play free games. blah blah blah with the ps3 exclusives cause what there are 4 good ones i can think on the top of my head like motor storm metal gear, resistance, drakes fortune witch acutely uses the cell processor. and dont get me wrong it is a terrific console but whats the point.

Hi everyone, I hope there’s some way of saving money soon, I’m an avid gamer, I wish the games were just cheaper. If hackers need donations, let me know, we can all afford to donate £1 or so a month, there’s got to be thousands out there willing to donate for the wider community. With some funding I’m sure lot’s of people will find it a piece of cake and a pleasure to hack for the community.
