ZeroGame v0.50 Multi-Console Emulator for PS3 Linux

While you’re waiting ZeroJay (aka Jason Carter) has pieced together an optimized/streamlined MAME-like bundle for those with an OtherOS-enabled PS3. Slim owners, sorry — them’s the breaks.

What is ZeroGame? Here’s a little background quoting ZeroJay:

Over the last year or so, I’ve been tweaking and changing my installation of Yellow Dog Linux on my PS3 so that it would be more emulation-friendly. My goal was to get my install as close as I could to the friendliness of the Xbox emulators, with a game list and a few button presses and the game of your choice is up on the screen. It’s been a long journey, but a fruitful one.

ZeroGame is a bash shell script that will take a freshly installed copy of Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 on your PS3 and with a few minutes and occasional input from you will give you one good emulation box that you can boot up whenever you feel like playing some classics.

ZeroGame includes emulators for many classic consoles: Game Boy, including the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Colour, SEGA Genesis, Master System, Game Gear, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Turbo Grafx 16, and of course MAME itself.

Take a look-see:

What do you need?

  • Yellow Dog Linux 6.2 freshly installed on your PS3
  • A working internet connection
  • An HDTV that supports 1080p or 720p (480p/i and 576p/i support in the future)
  • A wired USB keyboard
  • One or more Sony Sixaxis/Dualshock3 controllers

Follow the install guide (zerogamereadme.txt) once you have the prerequisites covered. That file also details other things of importance. I suggest you give it a once over regardless.

Good luck!

Installed this and everything else just fine on a 80GB PS3. One problem, NO controllers will work, not through USB or bluetooth. No matter what, I can’t get a controller to work at all. Anyone else having this problem or know a solution?

while installation you need to login as root not as zerogame root. (su -l instead of su)

or try:

1. service bluetooth stop

2. service hidd stop

3. service hidd start

4. service bluetooth start

5. service hidd stop

6. hidd –server –nocheck -n

7. PS Button

8. Ctrl-C

if you follow step by step in the guide if will work fine HOWEVER.. after you perform the “yum update” you NEED to restart before performing the next step.. It doesn’t tell you to but you NEED too.. if you don’t do this, the controller will not be able to sync properly since you JUST updated the bluetooth controller. after this, THEN you can start to download the zerogame package in the readme.. also if your gonna run the game in 1080p your gonna have to copy the *lay files to the 1080pb folder since for some reason they are missing in the 1080pb folder but are in the 1080p folder. (this is what gives you that blue background while shifting through the games). also the nes select button is incorrectly mapped to controller 2 so you gonna have to fix that too.. look it up on the forums.. and after you install the zerogame, to install the games, hit ctrl+alt+f1 then type “cd /etc/” enter then type “gdm stop”. after this you get back to the root command and from here just type “root” enter and then type your password and you should be back in yellowdog and should be able to navigate to the rom’s directory and install the files from a flash drive.. your gonna have to mount the flash drive before you can open up so figure it out.. not too hard.. okay later

ok i installed YDL and i got to the kboot prompt. i entered the url thats supposed to download the emu installer and it said it wasnt a valid link. now what? and also, is this how its going to be with linux? this kboot screen and constantly having to use specific terminal commands for everything? or is there some GUI i have yet to install that makes it all simple and easy to use?
