i just downloaded the new firmware and launched the Facebook thing….man what a disappointment. All it does is share your trophy status with people on Facebook. thats so unbelievably GAY. First of all, people on Facebook arent going to care about that crap, and then also there are gamers like me who care nothing about points and trophies. That whole thing is just getting beyond stupid. I thought this Facebook button would give us the actual Facebook site, except made specifically for the PS3 somehow, with faster load times and cool looking buttons, and a bigger chat window with more options or something (like away messages). but this trophy crap….uuughh….its so retarded

at least my ps3 it better sinse 3.00 it got slow, freezing , home didnt work but now its faster freezin non as of now and home works again so good so far
well the only thing i might get this updates is for tekken 6
i have never used facebook or any other of those sites like twitter or myspace so i don’t care but tekken 6 and assassins creed 2 might be worth it. other than that the new FW is pure garbagio.
Why the fudge can’t we get the little tv gadget here in the U.S i would tottaly get that so i could use it with remote play on my psp. but Nooooo! sony can’t do that and why the hell don’t we have the damn oneseg tooner to what over the air digital TV!!!!
P.S sony complains about hackers and pirates well no shit they won’t give us the option to buy the things we really want i have been wanting the CAMERA, the GPS and the TV TUNNER for years now but none of these are available in the US and even if i bought them i wouldn’t get any service on them so what’s the point.

I’m suffering from the same thing right now on my PS3 Slim. Man. I gave up – just connected USB and it works like that. My PS3 bd remote always fails to register now too. Drats.
Same thing with me, controllers not working, have to restore ps3 default settings. Work fine after that.
UPDATE: sorry for false alarm, it’s working again…after 10th (or so) shutdown it started to work correctly, even the remote wake-up

PS. I would prefer to see something like chat via microphone to anyone on your buddy list regardless of whether you are in game or not. (A 1 to 1 convo will do – group convo would be sweet).

I think it was about time that sony made a skype add on they have it for the psp already so why not ps3?
oh and plus, what is so hard about organising a Playstation store? it is a mess. on Xbox live you can get demos for almost every full game, every arcade game and even every indie (homebrew) game! with the ps store, game add ons, demos arcade type games with demos with a compleatly different name are all lumped together.

well yea your right, but i put a little more thought into custom firmware, and if it ever does come out, it needs to be controlled by someone responsible. every game that you play online will be cheated in by hacks. who wants that ?
such as cod6 modern warfare 2..with cfw people will be cheating horribly in it. im just saying..if it ever does come out, and who ever does make it, should only allow customizations to the xmb, emulators, and ISO loaders for ps2 games. WOW!!! that’s a lot of features, but sony will NEVER!!! put that many or even half of the features into one single FW update. They never have, they never will.
they like to trikle the features little by little, for example in game voice chat has been confirmed in europe but it didn’t make it into this FW. Also Sony is in talks with Mozilla to maybe get Firefox web browser in the future. See we willl get some fatures just not everithing we want , and definitly not when we want i.
yea hero your right. but the PS store is completely up to them. yes, i agree on you with the prices, such as money for themes, which is stupid as hell, but im glad that the ps store is customizable under their control. i dont know why, i just do.

Hero, you have to keep in mind that some of these things aren’t possible from a technical standpoint.
Unlike the 360 where, as far as I’m aware, games are programmed with specific audio channels for music that the system software mutes, the PS3 doesn’t have dedicated music channels it can just mute, so the functionality has to be programmed into the games themselves. Keep in mind a lot of games now are starting to take advantage of this feature.
MSN Messenger is likely to never happen as MSN is a Microsoft property. Unless Sony allows third party developers to create such apps (hello Meebo, Digsby, Trillian, etc), we won’t see something like this. Same goes for Yahoo!, where there are probably licensing issues.
Lowering the prices in the PlayStation Store all has to do with marketing. Supply and Demand. They aren’t just going to drop prices because people want lower prices, they wouldn’t make any money that way. When a game stops selling at its original price, they may or may not see fit to lower its price depending on demand.
Being able to customize your PlayStation Store experience doesn’t count as a ‘modern’ design. in fact, being able to pull a MySpace with it would be a step backwards if you ask me. The PlayStation Store could use some reorganization, but adding a bunch of customization options to it would make it needlessly complicated, especially considering how little time the end user spends there at any one time.
Adding PS2 functionality and, possibly, adding PS2 titles to the PlayStation store will happen eventually, but as of now the PS2 is still selling, and very well at that. Currently it’s more profitable for Sony to just leave everything regarding PS2 the way it is. When the PS2 stops selling so well, they’ll be more likely to add this functionality to the PS3, giving PS2 owners with a large PS2 library more reason to upgrade if they haven’t already.
If the demand is high enough, I’m sure we may get a free Dynamic Theme or two eventually, but right now they’re considered a premium theme, so they’re being offered as premium content, which you have to pay for.
You know, I’m still waiting for Canada to get the PS3 video service in general, so I’m not even going to comment on that last point.

To me it looks like another useless update. Only reason i got it was for the matrix layout of the pictures since i have a lot. But knowing sony i knew i should not have my hopes to high and i was right, it works but with pictures that are stored on the ps3 itself and not if your are sharing with a computer.
Some of this basic stuff that should have been there years ago is not even here yet it waht really pisses me off. I mean this stuff is basic and if the xbox can do it why not the ps3.
MW2 what a piss off for the ps3 version (bought a new d3 controller) so me and my brother could play it and first i find no split screen online (at least it’s like that on all platforms) then i find we can’t even do simple 2 player special ops offline with 2 different psn account so we both unlock trophies at the same time.
I don’t want custom firmware for ISO loaders, cheats and hacks for games. B******s to that! I want custom firmware so that I can set up MY console the way I want to set it up, not now SONY or any other penny pinching company wants it! When the games are good, I will buy them, the crap can stay in the bargain bins! I recently acquired a JAP PS3, I want to play my UK PS1/PS2 games on it! I am writing this post from the hospital. I updated my ps3 from 2.60 to 3.10 and it exploded in my face i have 3rd degree burns over 98% of my body. AND THEN I DIED!!!!
Nah I’m just kidding i updated, thankfully everything went fine i have no problems so far (hope it stays that way).
I was really worried with all the issues of the previous FWs.
glad to report my emulators are still working fine, and , although i haven’t tested it yet, i assume that my USB loader for ps2 backups is still working as well.
All the issues reported with 3.10 thus far are either related to overlooked settings, or hardware failure. The firmware itself is solid as a rock, and I haven’t yet noticed any problems with it (in fact, my PS3 has been performing incrementally better with each update since 3.00, which is rather amazing considering my PS3 has been plagued with hardware issues of its own for a while now). I’m actually somewhat pleased with this latest update, even if it isn’t as feature-rich as a lot of people would like.
Currently running 60gb Launch model PS3; Blu-Ray movies, PS3 games, DVDs, PS1/2 games all still work just fine, haven’t noticed any problems yet with any of the games I own.

hmm, 3 days after update and my PS3 beeps once then flashes a red light on power on… my PS3 is now dead.
Sux too coz I bought my PS3 in Japan, I live in Australia.
Not sure if it was the latest update but my PS3 is only 6 months old and has been treated with the most care.

I manage to fix my PS3!!
I found that if I tried to turn on the ps3 it would show a green light for 5 seconds then turn yellow, then beep and flash red.
Well I sat there trying to power it up for about 5 minutes and eventually it turned on and started up. I then formatted a spare hdd I had laying around and turned off the ps3.
I put the freshly formatted hdd in the ps3 and again kept attempting to start the system, after about 70 tries I got it to start.
I downloaded the latest firmware update and put it on a usb stick, plugged it into the ps3.
At this point my ps3 is at the screen telling me restart or install firmware update, I chose install firmware, pressed select and start at the same time and let it install.
Now I have a working ps3 again!!!
There is nothing wrong with my original hdd, I think the ps3’s flash’s boot sector was corrupt.
I have my baby back!!!!!!
Please help me out mine is doin the eact same thing except I cannot get it to turn back on at all :/ i been turnin it on/off for about 10 mins and nothin >_>
Try turning on without the hdd, then try with the hdd back in..
Press I/O switch as soon as it flashes red again, I just kept pressing it every second until it finally started ( It took around 10-15mins ).
Just remember to have the update ready on a usb stick, you’ll get it goin’ – good luck abd let me know if this works for you!!

i really wish sony would throw in some kool, but un necessary features. like how u can now change the color of your ID on the friends list…things like that. it would make people happy, and it would make the playstation better because people can customize the playstation to their personality and not have it limited to how the creators want it. which is the primary reason i like having cfw on my psp. cxmb is my all-time favorite feature!! y cant sony do something similar??

The Official Sony PS3 Firmware Version 3.15 is updated .
Sony have announced a new firmware release for the Sony PlayStation 3. The new firmware 3.15 offers a feature that allows you to copy content from one PS3 to another. Data such as saved games, save data, videos etc… will be transferred and deleted from the old PS3 while personal data such as photos and videos uploaded yourself will be copied rather than deleted from the original PS3.
The update is optional and need not be installed unless you need the mentioned features. A quick run down of how the system works can be found after the jump.
Data Transfer Utility
1. Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV. Please note, firmware (v3.15) must be installed on both systems.
2. On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings category and select [System Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility]
3. Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data
4. After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB
5. If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system.
As well as offering the data transfer feature the 3.15 firmware update will enable minis that can be played on the PS3. Minis are bite-sized games that allow you to play shorter games for more casual gaming sessions. If you have purchased a game for your PSP then in the next few weeks you’ll be able to download the game to the PS3 also for play on the larger screen.
since the updates my ps3 has been freezing and had alot of problems..
one thing is when i transfer music topsp from ps3 it puts it in albums…..i DONT LIKE THAT
