Update: Woot woot… Just got word from Dashhacker… You will notice a new option for Mobile Phones under Settings -> Remote Play Settings -> Register Device. With that said, Dashhacker has ORP working again. Those changes are being committed to SVN right now. If you feel inclined to compile from source, go nuts. Otherwise wait for an official release, which will happen sooner rather than later.
Update: Oooh… New start-up screen. New particles floating in the background; I’m guessing animated themes are supported now. Bigger fonts & icons. New ticker in the top right corner: shows the number of friends online, the number of unread messages, and the date/time with some scrolling news below. If you have a long list of media, a progress indicator is shown to the left when holding up/down to scroll through it all. Many new settings under each of the sub-setting menus. Open Remote Play: no more video at all. Still exploring…

I’m diggin’ FW 3.00… like the noticeable XMB and browser speed-up. Like the increased font size/icons. Like the new animated themes. Like the new right-analog ‘jog’ control for video playback. Like the new status indicator, number of friends online, unread mail but HATE the stupid ticker and the grey border. HATE the grey boxes in the friends list. Like the new start-up logo. LOVE the fact that the browser plays ANY flash video content! (it’s about time!) Still can’t understand why my tunes cut out when I view either my own or friends’ profiles – WTF – really?
All-in-all, great update…
Older (non-SVN) builds of Open Remote Play will NOT work with FW 3.00. You’ll have to build from source or wait for the next pending release. Sony has added support for mobile phones (Sony Ericson? only)… there are many new headers to be looked in to (new video bit-rates, video configuration, lower non-PSP resolutions, etc.)…
FW 3.00 is a significant update even though there are a few changes I would like to see changed – soon!

would this solve the ps3 not reading any disc? after updating to 2.80, unit is not reading any disc, only a tiny icon that says it reads…
I don’t think it would…I just had that problem…if everything works on your PS3 but no discs will read…you unfortunately have to get it sent in for repairs.
I can’t stress this enough…not only back up your ps3…also copy your savegame data…I was only told to back up the hard drive which I did…when I got the same PS3 unit back…I couldn’t restore my data! So my trophies are kept but I have to start from scratch on some of my games…boo Sony and your DRM!

there shouldn’t be any reason you can’t compile it for linux. just make sure you have all the dependancies. Though it’s not like I’m going to bother trying myself as my crappy laptop isn’t worth putting remote play on. I stream stuff from my laptop to my ps3 not the other way around, for the 1080P of course.
Please some one check the psxloader and ps2 backups from usb I know for a fact that as of FW 2.6 this still works even though most people i saw on the web think it wont work past FW 2.4, so please check this as it may still work, because i dont think sony is keeping an eye on the ps2 HW when they do FW updates

actualy your mostly right i dont realy play the games on usb as i have the original disk but the option and to simply know that i can is totaly worth it, also the ablility to load emulators on psxlopader directly from swapmagic is better in my opinion than loading from linux (linux always comes up slow and i cant get the control to work) they run way smoother mostly snes wich has some of my favorite old school games.
i dont pirate games i just hack as a challange to see if i can, usualy with guides because i would never be able to do it on my own for the most part.
forgot to mention the usb loaded games although the video is chopy due to 1.1 usb of ps2 the game for the most part plays just fine now if ifcaro made a patch to get usb 2.0 then its all butter from there on

and the XMB is now a little too oversize on its icons n ect,
i liked it small, they should give us the option to still use small icons!

Original PS3 from Dec 2006 works just fine on older firmware… probley have to update because of the new Ratchet and Clank game, boy those are incredibly fun. I’ll only buy a slim at the end of the life cycle of the PS3…this will be the last console I will ever need. Sony did a great job. And oh, get the camera and the eye games off PSN, they are fun. Cant wait for the “Wii Sony Mote thingamajig, bye bye Mr. Wii!

usin make on linux just dont work… it gave me few errors because lack of some files.
so intall the missing files. Why is that so hard? Everytime you compile something your bound to be missing a dependancy or 2. just a matter of finding and installing whatever the compiler says is missing.

Is anyone else haveing problems loading disks ever since the new firmware update?
yes, i installed the firmware the day it came out, and my brother was playing gta 4 yesturday, he said he was playing the game and it froze, then it went to the xbm. I tried all my other ps3 games, and it did not work. Than i tried a dvd, it worked, than i tried a ps1 game, it worked, and then a ps2 game, and it worked. I looked up the error code that poppud up (cont remeber it rite now) and i enterd it online, and it said it means it is a blu-ray drive issue.

OMG i just thought of something, what if is going to start passing a lot of its ps2 titles to blueray like GOW and GOW 2 and then block BC of the EE through FW update blocking all ps2 home brew and making everyone buy all their games again
simple, don’t buy any game you already own. you by rights are allowed one backup copy. If everyone jumps out and buys all these ps1 an ps2 games that sony is trying to rape us for more money on it’ll just encourage them to keep doing it. Make a stand for whats right, call sony and complain. Tell them It’s illeagle for them to remove your ability to play something you’ve already bought and payed for. It’s not like sony is giving money to the origional creators of the games when the remake it 10 years later, most copyrights don’t last more than 5 years but they can be purchased and relicensed for another 5 years and so on.
it seems to me with all the complaints about disks not reading and controllers not working, thet sony is actually making things worse rather than meking them better with each FW update that seems weird.
Why is this happening, i thing thir trying to make money instead of a cuality product they are not testing or debugin the FW updates properly before release and its starting to make a lot of people very uset.
My ps3 works just fine even though i havent updated sice FW 2.6, but then again i havent seen anything worth while in the new updates, the stuff i have running on the ps3 seems more worth while than the new FW so when i see something better and actualy working properly then and only then will i update.

Decent update all in all. Absolutely LOVING BBC iPlayer! (UK Only). Still have a few things on my wishlist though:
Ability to change font colour in XMB – some backgrounds make it impossible to read.
Allow access to Web Browser in-game – you know, for when you get stuck – who wants to quit out of a game jsut to perform a quick internet search?
Remote play via PSP over internet would be a killer feature if my (3rd different model) router didn’t keep switching my PS3 on by itself. I mean, I would love to be able to sit in work at lunch time, and play lair, or watch a movie or whatever.
The Pic Gallery software is a little pointless. No-one is going to go all out and use their PS3 as their only media storage device. They need to couple this with network access to pics stored on a PC or Mac. Same goes for network access to vids – We need access to SMB folder shares – not all that genre crap!

if im not mistake the last truly stable FW was 2.70 after that with 2.8 and now 3.0 many people have been having all kinds opf problems like Bluray not working at all, games freezing and controls not working, so why is this hapening sony used to be the most awsome company untill som U.S. corporate asswhole got put in charge (im from the U.S. by the way) its been down hill ever since i hope they fix these issues ASAP.

the only thing that really bothers me about this update is that they are trying to sell dynamic themes or themes in general, which was a problem before this update. Why anyone would pay for an advertisement is beyond me.

Fu*king update Ive just fixed my ps3 from the Ylod using a step by step on youtube and Wow it worked I was amazed good things like this dont happen to me anyway Xmb came up saying update so I thought I may aswell since ive got it working and the ba*tard update failed on install at 67% error code 8002f1f9 and just kept repeating so I thought I change hdd and nothing happened so I reformatted my hdd on my daughters ps3 and still nothing any ideas anyone???

Well, where do i start?
The one thing that pisses my off the most, and its something i just cant get over (like the three note jingle before the game, the horrible font sizes and the multitude of store links and adverts) is that the titles of the files i have on videos and music just fade away if i happen to want to read one of them as the whizz past.
Honestly.. 2 seconds? I couldnt find a setting anywhere to turn that stupid bloody idea off or even extend the time before fade-out. How rediculous is it? I use a media server with my PS3 and i have bucketloads of 1080p films, avi dvd rips, mp3’s, tv episodes etc etc – and like hell can i find anything!
I dont even know who to go to to complain where someone somewhere with some tiny amount of influence can have a word about this god-awful decision and get it effing sorted. It used to be a breeze to get to what i wanted amogst long lists of stuff, now i have to whizz-stop, whizz-stop my way and its amazingly annoying.
I’m honestly surprised by how few people have mentioned this – and i have read comments on the 3.0 and 3.1 firmware on sveral sites. Noone else find this annoying?
