The lowdown… On July 1st the public release was apparently delayed due to a nasty bug that crashed the console using the latest firmware update. Furthermore, a couple days back it’s said the modchip was sent to 50 beta testers for final bug testing. No price or release date has been mentioned/confirmed.
Now, as far as I’m concerned, this is absolute pure speculation for the time being. That is until some concrete evidence surfaces proving otherwise. Anyone, beta testers, hello?!

I’m not so irked by this. Xecuter technology on the PS3 is proven and working, and I’ve found they generally make their fair share of grammar and spelling mistakes.
What really has me skeptical is the touted PS2 support. In particular, I’m curious as to the lack of mention regarding whether or not this support is only for backwards compatible PS3s, as I’m not sure the installation of a modchip could suddenly allow playing PS2 games on a non-BC PS3.

Well it couldnt just magically make PS2 work considering that the ps2 support was pretty much a chip which allowed for all the hardware of the ps2 to work minus the video and sound.
If you dont already have a PS3 that does ps2 games your going to be dissapointed to find it still doesnt work. However if some programmers made a ps2 emulator for ps3, then it could work that way.

Mod Chips on the PS3 is so useless sony will just make it that you need a firmware update that will block it you need to update the chip or get a new one then sony patches the firmware again and just keep repeating the cycle over and over.

People were more than willing to mod their Ps2 consoles when the NEO4 and Messiah chips came out. They were at that time still over £300, at least where I live. It all depends on the skills of the person doing the job.

imports are games you “import” from overseas for example i live in australia and have region 4 optical discs (PAL) and i import a Blu-Ray ps3 game from the united states the chip would theoretically allow me to use the imported game. clear enough for you?
all ps3 games are region free. any ps3 game bought anywhere in the world will work on any ps3 anywhere in the world, you dont need a modchip for this.

I think it’s fake… it says that it “plays imported games”… the PS3 has no region code on games, it always played imported games and it always will… why the f*ck are they saying that it plays imported games when it can do this without some sh*tty modchip?? and on the other hand i wouldn’t sacrifice my loved ps3 to some modchip…i love to play multiplayer, i love my psn account and i want to pay for the games that i like, and support those developers who worked hard to create that game…i don’t think that ps3 owners do not have approx. 40-60$/€ monthly or two monthly for a game that they like….

I like to try before I buy. There is nothing worse than buying a game that completly sucks and feeling like you got ripped off. Even if they do have a mod chip someday the disks are still going to be around $20 each. A few coasters and you will wish you bought the game. I have my 360 modded and if I like the game I will buy it. It’s only fair.

If this is true, they should make it so that you can store and play iso’s off your PS3 HDD, blu-ray disc are way to expansive. You’d be spending 20$ a game and what happens when you F@@K up one of those 20$ blu-ray disc when burning……I’d rather spend 60$ on the orginal then waste 20bucks per blu-ray disc and possible F@@K ups making it who knows how much

Some people will install it and some wont, regardless of if you install it or not other people will and this will eventually lead to developers losing interest in the ps3. Some kid sent his psp in for repair after a brick and the thing came back with a strange battery and a memory stick both of wich were both latter reverse engeneered bringing in to existance the home made pandora battery and magic ms.
So yea if this thing is real its probably seacretly backed by sony in some way or other, because i read somewhare that the ps3 has MILITARY GRADE security making it very hard for any old person just to hack it willy nilly even with a modchip so think about that for a bit.

The reason they haven`t got any pictures could be because they don`t want anyone to know what it looks like – a real professional engineer would be able to figure out the basic concept of any chip if he saw pics of it. And as for the firmware upgrade, it is possible to bypass Sony`s way of blocking it IF you can implement the chip`s use INSIDE the original firmware as to make it adapt to any new firmware update or change. Then, Sony would have to make a totally new firmware, which I doubt they will do if this is the case.

Looking at a picture of a chip would give away NOTHING. These chips have embedded systems that do all the real work, so even if they released a full instructional guide of how to install including pointing out the soder points would give a “real professional engineer” absolutely nothing.

Completely legal, free (unless u want to buy a bigger hard drive for it ), it doesn’t void ur warrantee and its really easy just change about 2 settings (takes about 2 mins), download linux from the internet and upload onto ps3. The PS3 already plays backup copies of DVDs & Blu-rays!
Living in a multi-zone / multi-lingual country, i’m forced to convert my Region Locked original DVDs to region-free in order to play via PS3, so i prefer stick to my PC for i buy originals to pay for what i like. If i think a movie is not really worth it, i wait for it on digital broadcast .. . ;)
Piracy is what kills small developers, don’t really bother the big ones! & it’s a shame …
as a gamers point of view, the more you have, the less you play so when you have to pay, you get only what you like or what’s worth it & enjoy playing them till the end, you max out the time spend on them & have a really big experience …
i understand the need to learn new tricks, crack some security here, hack some systems there, exploit the vulnerabilities where possible, but please keep it private & i sure hope this project FAILS !!!

I don’t agree with you that the more you have the less you play. There is not that much being released that you wont be able to finish a game before the next is available. :) And I’m happy that on the PS2 I was able to play backups, that sorted out allot of crap games from my collection. And you should also know that second hand game business hurts the companies far beyond what any piracy ever has done. Piracy is less than 1% on PS2. It wont be more on PS3. I’ll buy a pre-modded console when available for x-mas, :)

Ok got the CHIP, but how come of 50 TESTERS, no one has made a movie or pictures. HOW COME ? I mean they are all lock up ot what ? i’m against a hack to play backup .. i know why i am here though, because i like it when people learn new things & i want too …
piracy belongs to the PC … even if it’s true that it doesn’t really hut the industries like for music, it has some effect on smaller developers.
sometimes we can say that these small games programmers doesn’t produce great stuffs so who cares, but they must start somewhere. people who steal software, movies, music, etc aren’t themselves producers that’s why they don’t feel it.
i don’t believe in this chip for now, even if somehow someday someone come up with something like it, i just hope SONY will get rid of it with a forced FW update …
now for the part of why i am here – i don’t want to hack my PS3 to play backup, but if we can concentrate on maxing it out otherwise .. with homebrew content, removing or hacking region compatibility, i accept some kind of emulation of older systems. I would be happy if somehow someone found a way to tweak it for better use or add compatibility to some other media content like MKV, FLV, etc …

i totaly agree with you i wouldnt have the money or the time to burn blu-ray discs
but i did have time to load SNES emu recently it works great and also managed to backup a copy of my own SSX game which is a little scratched and can now play it on usb through ps3 and keep the disk safe from getting more scratched.
in case any one is interested the PSXLOADER (ps2hombrew emulators) totaly works i tried it and now i have three virtual memory cards on my ps3 for swapmagic one to boot the homebrew and the other to boot PS2 backups of the games i own, and obviously one for my ps2 game saves. i have FW2.60 USA 60g all without any modchip. I think these specific hacks may work on later firmwares because the PSXLOADER suposedly wouldnt work after FW 2.41 or something and it totaly works on mine, so if any one has a laterr FW could you please try these and pos your results, i dont want to upgrade if they dont work.
this makes me think that the ps2 HW side of the ps3 is being neglected in the updates so maybe there may be way to exploit this and inject code into the ps3 through the ps2 HW just a thought.
i just had a thought wouldnt it be cool if like the psp has its pandora battery someone made a pandora harddrive for ps3 or somethin crazy like that lol.

the funny thing is, that the game developers always said that the games have to be expensive cause of the piracy and that it destroys a whole market. Cause of modchips/bootloader and firmware hacks the PSP, PS1 and the PS2 got the status they have now in video game history. But when i look at the PS3 where no piracy is possible, did the prices drop? How much does Modern Warfare 2 cost? Do you think DLCs will stay at that price level? in a couple of years you wont even get a dvd or bluray and will have to pay 60€ for a freakin DLC!
So Modchips work for us! If you prefere to lose power, its your own falt.

I believe they are up for sale now. I just bought 1 from eBay and it’s shipping from Hong King Kong. I will let you all know when it arrives, I received the installation manual online and I have to solder 22 PCB’s and 45 connections, 2 ground and an AV/SD exit connector to the power cable. If you have a 360 you can also hook it up through SLI and they will both share a load of the graphics. It is backwards compatible with PS2, PS1, PS1/2 and PS1/4 games. Will also read UMD’s if treated with Vaseline. Upon inserting the game you have to press R-Trigger, X, Y, Z, O, Start, Pause and the PS button to get it to work. Once it is done you have to connect to the Sony servers and upload your IP address, Driver’s License, SS# and a copy of your home Deed. Once you pass verification (through jail time) you will be able to restore the Processor’s memory into the Hard Drive and make a U turn…

I have found only 1 way to hack the PS3, however not yet succeeded, and that is to make a local PlayStation Store; faking DNS, and using a local https setup.
and none of the code transfered to-from PSN is signed… oh yeah, anything that can be executed is… with a ridiculous key, have fun with that retarded idea… even if the PSN store data is unencrypted, its not gonna just run some unsigned code from a “fake” psn… dumbass.
