So if you’re able to quit and exit out of Fight Night Round 4 for a moment or two, you’ll see Sony has released PS3 Firmware Update 2.80. And despite what Mr. Lempel says —
The playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved.
Sony has also put a damper on Open Remote Play. Those tricky bastards have seemingly “poisoned” the video stream… If you start the ORP client and establish a Remote Play connection, you’ll notice the video quickly becomes garbled nonsense and eventually the client bails. The good news — you can still make the connection, meaning the authentication hasn’t changed any…
On a better note, Sony didn’t make it update before log in. So no need to update!

Well i got fed up with all these crappy PS3 updates so i emailed playstation… they emailed me back saying i need to wait for them to reply within 24 hours..
Complete waste of time emailing SCEE this is exactly what they sent me after asking why they were releasing such stupid updates:

Yup. Old PSP firmware works too. Which means they don’t require up-to-date PSP firmware for Remote Play. This is great news, it shouldn’t be very long before I have a fix for ORP.

I was worried over them doing this. I thaught you said they could`nt Dashhacker. Well atleast it still connects so that is good.
I incorrectly assumed that they would have to update the PSP and PS3 firmware together, at the same time, and disable Remote Play for older PSP firmware versions. It turns out they’ve found a way to disable ORP, but still allow old PSP firmware to use Remote Play. I’m knee deep in this now, and I’m feeling confident I’ll have a fix soon.

Audio fixes will come with v1.3 and proper audio+video synchronization.
Do you still think you can fix it? If sony has a means to detect open remote play what can you do? Appart from spoofing the mac address of the psp. Is that a posibility?
Is that how they detect none psp devices because the mac address dose not match Orp.
I think open remote play is probably the best function of any homebrew so far. So I do hope a fix is on its way.

Yup, you’re exactly right. With FW 2.80, the PS3 will “poison” the video stream with random invalid bytes if the connection did not come from a registered PSP’s MAC address.
If you spoof your MAC to that of your registered PSP, it works!
Now, I’m trying to find an appropriate solution, something involving creating a software virtual interface under Linux/Window/OSX set with the correct MAC address.
Also, I need to figure out how to fix remote connections, as the MAC address will obviously be that of your home gateway/router no matter what. Reverse engineering Sony’s DNAS authentication stuff is not in the cards, too much work.

Yup, a little. Since I’ve spent the last two days crawling through PSP assembly code, that’s two days lost toward finally completing the audio/video synch/buffering code.
When I have a fix for FW 2.80, what I’ll probably do is incorporate that in to v1.2, back-port some of the new v1.3 changes, and release v1.2[b]a[/b] for OSX/Windows.
That way I can get some of the new stuff out that people are asking for like disabling UDP search, Wake-On-LAN (remote start), custom keyboard bindings (especially important for Macbook owners), and several significant stability fixes (crashes under Windows, and occasional video corruption under OSX/Linux).
i jus feel bad tht sony might pull something off tht makes all of ur hard work useless.
there has to be an exploit for ps3..there has to b….nuthing is perfect. and if anyone (or me) ever finds it dont report it until there is a cfw available so tht sony doesnt take advantage of there power and make us have to log in and updaTe

i payed US $460 for a used ps3 at a gamestop i think i should be allowed to do as i please with it as long as i dont infringe on legal stuff like pirated games. Yes, same problem. I have a 60 GB original PS3. Just turn on your system while holding the on button until you hear a beep. This re-sets the system.

Half of Sony success is from ONLINE shit, the users get to stay connected via internet, ALSO the ps3 stay – future patch the holles in the sistem. And beside that, the minigames also boost their budget, personally i only use the net for patches….The ps2 only after 5 years was fully hacked, until then was cheap modchip for cd rips.
From my point of view the ps3 not get hack 2 years from here, maybe more…i grow up to hate the internet, now MS hope to download those stupid titles direct on hdd, CMON get serious…i DONT want changes, i WANT good games, i WANT few bugs, a GOOD STORY. Ps3 slim is out, no more Linux or other OS to install, sorry if im wrong – so we hope some new hackers get the job done. Linux was a major cause to delay the hack.

hey ps3 slim coming in september and there is alot of stuff taken out like other os and ps1 ps2 compatability removed all toghether, also according to what i have seen and heard the ps3phat will be fased out compleatly, so there may be a chance that sony may stop updating some features of the ps3phats leading to some new exploits maybe through the emotion engine or the other os feature that sony will probly begin to disregard, so heres to hopeing for a sony slipup.

I updated my firmware to 2.80 today and it has restricted me from using my other accounts which have different regions for them. one account i had for the PSN in Japan and the other in Europe. and now it says that i cannot access the PSN with my accounts.
my mistake. sony had maintenance running and it prevented me from signing on even though i received a message saying i could not sign on with that account into the PSN.

I bought a PS3 relatively recently and am impressed with what it can do, then I borrowed a PlayTV dvb-t adaptor and bought one myself two days later. Now I’ve discovered ORP and I want a taste of the action. I don’t have a PSP, might be able to borrow one, but is there not a way to get ORP to work without needing a PSP at all?
I’d also be thrilled if there was a linux port… I’d be interested in helping out in any way I could to make it possible.
