Open Remote Play (ORP) v1.1 BETA and Source Released: Mac & Windows

Posted by greg on May 15, 2009

Update: My bad… Forgot the README.txt in the Win32 archive. It’s included now, and for those who have already downloaded it, see here.

Here you go — Open Remote Play for both the Mac and Windows. And not only that — Dashhacker has released the source code. So if you’re a developer and wish to contribute: visit the Open Remote Play Google Code project page. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. And remember, you read it here first. Boom, posted.

Open Remote Play v1.1; things you should know:

  1. ORP v1.1 introduces game launching, video scaling (1.5x & 2x size), full screen mode, and many bug fixes.
  2. The Mac version, awesome, absolutely awesome. Little bit of key lag… Not much.
  3. Windows, well some of you may have issues, some may not… In our case we’ve tested XP, it seems to work fine with some minor issues. Vista, not so much — seems to bail on something… Maybe someone can test and report their experiences below or in the forums. Windows 7 (64bit) users — it works. You may need to resize the Window (drag the bottom right corner) to see the “Save”, “Delete”, and “Cancel” options when editing your ORP profile.

What’s planned? Check this –

  • Add joystick support with a default SIXAXIS/DS3 button map.
  • Add proper audio+video synchronization (added a quick hack for now).
  • Add ability to set/manage buffering and bit-rate profiles.
  • Add error messages to the player instead of just bailing silently.
  • Implement power-on support.
  • Clean-up and document API.

Ok, So I guess I am a little confused. I thought this would allow me to play my ps3 from my laptop but in the xploit it starts referring to the PSP. Can someone clear this up please.
Thanks

This allows you to access the remote play service on your PC. Since you can’t play PS3 games on your PSP via remote play, same rules apply.

just got the windows version and it seems very good for a first release. sure there is audio/video issues, random crashes and my pc doesnt seem to like the full screen/size change commands. also it lacks direct keyboard support. but i didnt expect perfection on first release. i expected proof of concept and thats what i got.

keep up the good work dashhacker

btw before someone flames me when i say direct keyboard support i mean being able to type using the keyboard not move things with the keyboard.

Yeah i know lol. Im not suprised it doesnt have it since remote play doesnt actually have keyboard input. Would be very difficult to implement. I cant even think of a way to proceed with that. Let alone program it.

I don’t know about the support for all Os, but on Win 7 64 bit (at least), Remote play seems to work fine. Though Remote start does not (had to start with PSP or regular method from XMB), but then normal functionality.

On the glitch side of things (not a big deal), but I can open Aquatopia on my PSP remote play. However, on the ORP it causes a major glitch where the TVs “Remote Play In Progress” message flashes really fast to black screen and back. The only way out was to hard reset the PS3.

Hope this helps.

:)

Do you need a PS3 for this to work, because all i need is a way to make ad hoc go online instead so i can play people in MHF2 with out them being near me, pls make a hack that mods a psp so the ad hoc connects to the internet and then through the internet to other psps.

Relly good program for a first version (on windows). I used it on vista 64 bit and i could not see any sync problem whit the sound comperd to the video. I did not get into any problem more then that full sceen problem and that I have to resize the edit windows. I runed it in xp sp2 compability mode and as admin.

Comment by Kwith
2009-05-18 18:53:30

Tried it on Vista 64, XP SP2, and no luck on either. MAde sure to try running as admin in Vista, and even tried XP SP2 compatibility mode with Vista. So far all that happens is it sits there then closes the window and does nothing. Am I not doing something right here?

I would strongly advise everyone not to share things like this. Granting someone access to your PS3 could lead to a hefty credit card bill and some missing files to boot.

Thanks for this great software I would love to see a native linux version so I wouldn’t need to run this inside a Windows XP Virtual Machine.

Thanks again !!
Keep up the good work.

Linux users just compile the source in to a native binary. Since ORP was developed under Linux, it’s well supported. See the Linux.mak file for details. Also, you’ll need to install these:
http://code.google.com/p/open-rp/wiki/LibraryDependencies

Maybe someone out there will maintain RPMs/DEBs for the main Linux distros at some point.

I copy the folder onto my psp under “game”. however when i run (play) the program on it, it says that it is corrupt. then opening my psp game folder on my pc, I cant seem to find the export.orp anywhere on my psp’s card. I feel like an idiot seeing how fast some ppl got it running. am i missing something here?

Is your PSP able to run home-brew software? If not, then that’s why it won’t run.

The dep must be disabled in vista.sometimes this helps but you stand at risk.
