Posted by greg on May 13, 2009

Update: It’s out… And ORP still works.

Uh oh… Big Trouble in Little China? What’s Sony up to… PS3 Firmware 2.76 — it’s just around the corner.

This is a minor update that improves the playback quality of some PS3 format software.

I predict this firmware update has something to do with the entry just before this one!

i work for Sony. i can tell you this update is because of reverse engineered remote access. This update neuters that a little, so that an exploit hole is fixed before it is discovered in that process. To find the hole, dump 2.76 FW and compare it to previous FW to see what was changed, then go from there. Good luck. First official Hello World is possible through this..

“i now”?? haha look man, you obviously didnt read what I said. read it again. ORP will still work (for now), but there was a small hole discovered in all of this were unsigned code could be implanted using ORP into the PS3. There was a small ‘Hello World’ demonstration held in a private Sony office of this. Since then the hole has been patched. You have to understand there are people working for Sony who are hired to look for security flaws and exploits in every firmware that comes out and every discovery like ORP that comes along. The process moves pretty fast because they have all the funding of Sony at their disposal and are well organized, unlike the hacking community where it’s people living in their parent’s basements afraid everyone is going to bust them or steal their ideas.

Fail.

No sony ninja would ever participate like this on this forum.
And nobody who works for sony would be dumb enogh to disclose ANY type of information.
There is no reason for it.

And besides, real sony spys would never post things on public sites Twice.
Thats like saying, Hello, i’m here, please fire me!

Also, what you said is something with half a brain would be able to “invent”, just to get some attention.

Why do youy waste time like this? Are you a retard? Nobody is ever going to belive in you.

And even if you were some traitor, you should learn that traitors report to high official, like the hackers of dashacks, not by posting silly lies.

Hopefully it’ll make SF4 load as fast as the 360 version, it’s already better on PS3 due to the pad.

Yeah I totally agree with “Fail” that “Agent Dark Booty” guy wouldn’t work for Sony. And if he did hes the first guy to take on hackers in a public forum.

And about this

“You have to understand there are people working for Sony who are hired to look for security flaws and exploits in every firmware that comes out”

Hmmm maybe there were hired AFTER the PSP’s EPIC fail to stop homebrew?
Still if this is true, its a good thing (for Sony atleast) that they finally are trying to stop hackers.

the people at sone may be working to find holes in there firmware but a new hole possible was found in 2.7 using the ORP wich sony thought was impossible(based opon the forum challenging them). he may be full of shit. but you have to give him credit for thing outside the box and or being hopefull.

This firmware update is for the LibTiff exploit which is in 2.70, Sony is releasing this new firmware to fill that security hole ;)

And by the way dont update to the new firmware just incase someone actully creates custom code in the tiff to exploit the PS3! ;)

Now if they can get the thing to play all blue rays out there. I still can’t play Deja Vu on my PS3. Good job Sony. You made the format and so far it’s sucking balls for compatability.

well ,i really hope that the ps3 doesnt get hacked after seeing what it has done to the psp i now understand how destructive hacking can be towards the games industry.

i mean ,its fine to run homebrew stuff like emulators and cool
system apps like radio players and custom web browsers,i dont at all have a problem with that even tho playing games of old is still in a sense pirating but to play backups of games released the asme day downloaded via torrent is just wrong
plain and simple this is why theres no quality for the psp
or wii and the psp had such a great potential, this is also why sony have revised the psp 3 times.

would you spend £$£$£$£$£ and a few years developing
a ground breaking game to be on a torrent site the day of
release ?
