One word:

Woot!

This is probably the best thing for hackers that’s happened on the PS3 since it was announced Linux would be installable out of the box!

(And no, I didn’t like that crap Java homebrew either).

Well, you can already do it from your PSP, but this will allow you to doit from almost anthing with internet. Using my PS3 on my iPhone sounds pretty damn cool to me. Also, could this lead to other things? Possibly. Maybe RemotePlay isn’t just video streaming, maybe there’s other stuff that can be accessed but was blocked out by the PSP, as Nicko01 said. There could be other things besides just not being able to use PS3 games, change some settings, ect. Just my theory, though.

I doubt that.
I seriously doubt that.

What this might help is to make easier to get a hold of locked psp features.

Remote play is just the same as turning your controler and TV on a PSP.

Its the same as pluging a xbox controller on a ps3, and plug it on a random lcd.

There won’t be any breach to hack the ps3 from there.

Anything can be hacked. The problem with the PS3 is that not many people are really working on it.

Comment by xjen0vax
2009-04-24 18:03:53

This is actually far from the problem, there are plenty of people giving their attention to hacking the PS3.

The problem is that Sony’s protection is far greater on the PS3 than it was on the PSP, not to mention the PS3 wasn’t launched with gaping security flaws.

In order to hack the PS3, an exploit needs to be found that will either allow unsigned code to be executed, or allow kernel mode access so that a modified version of the PS3 firmware that allows unsigned code to be executed can be installed to the flash/HDD.

Comment by bonbon
2009-04-24 20:42:20

in plain English, ps3 will be hacked but not in this near future.

Comment by xjen0vax

Not necessarily. Not to dash hopes here, but there is a rather large possibility that the PS3 will never wind up hacked.

Comment by Nicko01
2009-04-25 17:45:56

I would be looking at the PS3 more on hardware level. Usually, when hacking something, you think entirely of using software, but in this situation, we can look at everything down to the IC’s and small microcontrollers. If I was hacking the PS3, that’s where I would go first, and attempt to get some code to disassemble.

I’m not much of a professional though, just a 16 year old noob electrical engineer and programmer. But my thoughts and ideas can be considered…

Sounds cool, but i wish they Reverse Engineered the thing in Resistance: Retribution that lets you play with the DS3 controller, so we could use DS3 on any psp game.

Comment by Nicko01
2009-04-25 17:49:04

Using the DS3 on a PSP is not reverse engineering. It can be done with a small mcu, a few hardware mods, and a bit of programming.

Or you could just use entirely hardware mods, but I would at least attempt to use software.

very intresting maybe we’ll get to somewhere.

you know if there was some tutorials on what to know to hack a ps3 what type of language and programs you need or what to do will encourage people to start trying to hack a ps3 or atleast help out.

i would really like to learn but unfortunately none of my searches returned with a result

Comment by xjen0vax
2009-04-26 20:44:26

Unfortunately it’s not just as simple as knowing programming languages, and no tutorials exist because it’s not an exact science yet like hacking the PSP is. There are no solid hacks for the PS3, so there’s no way to write a tutorial.

In order to have a hope of hacking the thing, you’d need to know about programming languages, encryption schemes, processing architectures, and all that jazz.

And once you know all that, you also need a way to actually apply your hacks to a system, and, without hardware mods, that requires some sort of exploit in a game or firmware that allows specific access to the flash and inaccessible areas of the harddrive.

The PS3 won’t be fully hacked for an estimated 3 – 5 more years. There’s not enough people trying to hack it and not enough people trying to learn how. Hacking is practically at a standstill for the PS3 with things like the Cell processor, the Hypervisor, and other security measures in place, it’s just insanely difficult to do. Get enough people to learn how to program and deprogram with the Cell’s programming structure and get someone to break through the Hypervisor, and the system will be officially hacked.

Any advancements in the homebrew scene is notable – it just may not be useful. This may lead to something else being decrypted or a homebrew version of PlayTV for the US (since its only available overseas).

I think there’s too many whiny teeny-bopper bitches on this site. There should be news posted > users comments or reviews of same. Look at the PSPChess post. People are saying it needs some work due to some chess rules not being followed. This gets back to the dev and the game gets better.

So we will be able to play PS1 games, using PS3, on any computer that is connected to the PS3? That is a cool thing.
But, I wonder will it be able to do the same with PS3 and PS2 games. You see, my monitor does not have a VGA input, so I can’t connect my PS3 to it. Will I be able to play my PS3 games remotely too (on my PC monitor), or will I just be limited to PS1 games (the original PSP function)?

I think that with every little exploration of new hacks can lead into something else, so lets respect the work, even if it is not such a big surprise like this one. All of you need to stop waiting for the big “iso” files to be finally played. It wont be soon untill ps3 will be hacked. So go out there and get a blockbuster membership for now or something.

2009-05-04 08:25:15

I’m illiterate? Here I’ll help you out a little bit. “By the way (WHEN) you wrote that post” blah blah etc etc. WHEN you grow a set and realize you can’t do any better, don’t post at all. Just shoot yourself.

Actions speaks louder then words. Do you honestly think your opinion counts? No, which makes you’re post pointless. If you can do better, then do it, which you evedentally can’t which makes you an “epical fail” at life period. Or a fucking idiot, one of the two.

None the less, it just goes to show people that are opinionated like you don’t have a right to say anything.

Someone should be targeting the replicating the blu-ray discs so that they are accepted by the system, rather then worry about hacking the machine.

Without the PS3 able to take copied games then it will never be a success.

Has Sony reduced its game price to say 1/4 tof the other’s due to people being forced to buy? No, they are stillt he same price as XBOX360, so sale numbers will never make PS3 a cheap machine. You are stuck with a disaster that you have to buy every game. It’s like an expensive computer that has no functionality bar one or two games and playing locked movies.

Sony==burnt.
