I know this is close to a month old, but I should mention that netflix has been developing a streaming disc for the wii for quite some time (read: did a survey from netflix back in february on buying a wii disc from netflix to stream movies to my wii).

I'm sure wii is their priority, but would imagine streaming to come to the PS3 after the wii is out of the way.

Netflix is stupid for the Ps3, we come to this site for hacks and hopes for 1 day some one will make a ps3 game loader (yea right!) so that we may make backups and download games. I'm sure most already do this with movies. its all the same.

I call bullshit.

That is retarded. Look up the PS3 specs. It IS A LOGISTICAL NIGHTMARE TO HACK. It has one cell processor dedicated to checking all the code for the start up of the system. It can't be accessed by games or exploits. Any code that is messed with causes the PS3 to reject it's start up. Then you need to contact Sony, use a warranty, or throw it out.

It's like fucking Fort Knox. It (as of time of writing) can't be cracked. If that code changes you're fucked, the sums won't check out, you remove that one processor it wont start, it just can't be done.

The only realistic way is to get a new cell processor, tweak it to act similar to the old one and hope to hell a swap will work. But even then whose to say the code itself doesn't have a safe guard to prevent this new processor from working properly. The PS3 is a tech powerhouse, and Sony truly out did themselves. But I doubt that anyone with ever really hack one of these anytime soon. The only really good system to hack currently is the PSP. The 360 one's are usually monitored well, and M$ is liable to royally bitchslap you with a lawsuit if you are caught pirating.

Also a few fun tidbits I realized while writing this, the only really common hacks are usually emulation, game rips, and various utilities for the system and the PC. Emulation is nice, but is easier on a PC, which is necessary to do the hack the system in the first place. I guess my point is besides the PSP, you are just moving to a different room to run an emulator. A Blu Ray game has about 40 gigs of info burned into it (including some dummy data of course)... but the highest HD the PS3 comes with is a 160 Gig (Uncharted Special edition pack). So if you really have the funds and time to back up, purchase, install, format, and restore data on a HD.... Then rent, insert, wait, rip for hours on end, then play a game... It was so much easier to just buy the game. Also where the hell would you go about downloading a *reliable* ISO that is 40 fucking Gigs? Without a hiccup messing up the file? Lastly Sony released it with the other OS, also the controllers and PSeye have windows drivers already. Any other apps would be useless. A calculator? A planner? What more could you really want (besides the wishlist that was the rumored 2.7o update)? The chat function is Skypish, messaging doubles as a MSNish thing, over clocking a PS3 really serves no purpose (as just properly cleaning a disk yields far better play), you can use Portals to make some PS3 browser issues less annoying... So I can't think of a decent app to want on a PS3.

I state this, and ask this in full anticipation of a shitstorm, but I really must know.... What do we want out of hacking this? Honestly?

Less cap lock, more calming the fuck down. For the most part using mega upload and stuff like that is easier. Just find a good site like that instead.

Though this would be a cool feature. Heh, maybe the next update wont be crap after all.

Go all to sleep with NETFLIX, is old tech movie, i prefer HD rip all the way, is a shame really, they cant sleep without f...k new service online for kids. We want the ps3 to be hacked, not news about weather or wii motion come to 360 and others. Let me guess the next BIG news is ps3 price drop??? We want a cheap machine, but then we complain about lack of memory or AA.
