Red2Blu – Warner Bros. Offers Blu-Rays for your HD DVDs

Posted by LeifErikson on April 23, 2009

Alright, now, this is awesome. We know most of our readers are most likely 100% Blu-ray loyal and probably didn’t even know HD DVD existed, but if you happen to own some HD DVDs because you were an early adopter or whatever, you may be happy to know that someone out there is willing to take your crappy HD DVD disc off your hands and upgrade you to a much nicer and superior Blu-Ray disc for a low fee of $4.95USD.

Now, Now, before you go all crazy and complain about the $5USD fee, you got to admit a $5USD upgrade fee is nothing compared to going out and buying the blu-ray copy of whatever movie you have on HD DVD. It’s a great deal! Unfortunately, you still have to pay for shipping but it’s still less than going to buy a blu-ray movie at your local Wal-Mart or Fry’s store. Now, excuse me, I got to upgrade my HD DVDs to Blu-Ray!

Note: This is only for HD DVDs from Warner Bros. – Wish more companies would do this, one can only hope!

Netflix Hints Movie Streaming Coming to Other Consoles

Posted by LeifErikson on April 14, 2009

Gamasutra reports an interesting new job listing at Netflix seeking an “Engineering Leader — Gaming Platforms.” The applicant is expected to have experience developing and testing media rich applications, and should be prepared to “rapidly prototype and iterate on a variety of platforms.”

What do you guys think? Is Netflix entering the video game streaming world or is Netflix movie streaming coming to other consoles, such as the PS3? Considering the relative success and partnership with the Xbox 360, it would not be surprising if the company expands its service to other customers. Netflix on the PS3 would be an amazing add-on, it’s the only thing I use my Xbox 360 for nowadays, so lets hope it happens and Sony/Netflix do it right.

PS3 Firmware Update 2.70 Released

Posted by LeifErikson on April 1, 2009

Well, it’s finally out and unfortunately it’s not what we all expected and were hoping for… The only thing significant this update brings is Text Chat. Text Chat allows you to communicate with your PSN buddies allowing up to 15 friends; you’ll be able to chat using the wireless keypad, on-screen keyboard, or other compatible keyboard. You will be able to access this while playing a game too – so yay. Also, you will be able to participate in up to 3 chat rooms at once.

Other things this update brings: (Nothing amazingly epic but whatever)

Friends list on the XMB (XrossMediaBar)

  • Sort your friends via their online status
  • Attach larger files to the messages you send to your friends (file size will increase from 1MB to 3MB)

Video delivery service on PlayStation Store

  • Video files you’ve purchased from the PlayStation Store can be backed up to an external storage device and then restored to PS3’s internal hard drive for playback – so you can clear up space on your hard drive and then restore the video anytime in the future
  • Videos you’ve purchased for PSP (PlayStation Portable) system can now be transferred to PS3 for playback

Well, that’s it. Go update your PS3 and give Sony hell for supplying us with such a crappy update!
