A member on the Gametrailers forums claims to have a friend working in an R&D department at Sony. That friend then let him in on the firmware 2.7 details. Some of these rumored features are awesome and heavily requested; hopefully they’re true…
Friends List:
- Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.
- Home Integration: Saved Playstation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.
- Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.
Gamer Card & Trophies:
- Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the Playstation Store aesthetic.
- Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting “Recent Trophy History” option.
- Newly aquired trophies auto-sync in the background
- Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.
In-Game XMB:
- Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seemless in-game experience.
- “Theme settings” options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.
- Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game.
- Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.
- Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.
Misc:
- Other slight UI tweaks and enhancements.
Remember: this is a rumor, pure speculation… There is no hard evidence confirming its legitimacy. We can only hope.

If you were disappointed with 2.6, you’ll probably like what you’re about to hear, but it’s still missing some very crucial (and heavily requested) features. Here’s a list of the things he told me will be changed:
-Sony will be giving 10 bucks for every throphy u unlock
-Free mudkieps
-End with terrorism
-Water purifier
-PS3 now can cure Cancer and AIDS, all together.
(Only you have both, so if you still don’t have AIDS: Go have some fun!)
-Make your girl friend’s tits grow 10x bigger (If you don’t have any, they will make one for you, with the new technology they developed thanks to Fold@Home)

the wording is unlike other updates, gamercard is for 360 not ps3 (ps3 is profile), and in game themes while making the xmb faster is not logically possible. one or the other. sorry, but i dont buy it.

256MB of XDR Ram its faster than the 512MB DDR3 that xbox has, it also runs at 3.2Ghz so this 256MB is probably faster than your 2GB of DDR2 you have in your computer.

We really need this and i’ve been very disappointed that we haven’t had it. This is the ONLY option the 360 has on the PS3 as of now and if we get it, The PS3 will officially be GOD! You can do it SONY, make it happen! Let’s put the 360 outta business :-)
What so what about the group option on the 360. Staying with your own group of friends to play a game, stay together while you load up another game to chat, and if you loose connection, you can jump back in without having to be invited again.

Yeah the party feature of xbox is nice. And music. You can listen to your music all the time. Even going in and out of a game it keeps your music going. I really like music. Chat is also cool on the 360. Sony just needs to get these things.

The reason I don’t buy internet browsing while in game is that web browsing is such a variable experience. The struggle the PS3 has had with adding functionality is that they never really issued any directives to developers about what memory to use vs. not use. So yes, I think a lot of PS3 games “max out” the PS3 (not because the PS3 can’t do more, but because the programs were not written very efficiently).
Titles with ingame browsers (Burnout is a good example) were written around them. Not browsers laid on top of the gameplay experience with no interaction w/ the code.
PS3’s Internet browser sucks.
It has some major Memory Leaks.

old 20GB, OLD 80GB and 60GB models support ps2 games.
the 20 GB has athe ps2’s processor but the 60 and OLD 80 GB models have software emulation
newer 40GB, 80GB and 160GB don’t support it at all
Actually. US 20 and 60GB have basically a full PS2 in them (the CPU GPU and RAM if I’m not mistaken) The UK 60GB and the old 80GB has some hardware (GPU) some software. The new 40, 80, and 160GB don’t have any hardware so they don’t have any compatibility.
The 20 and 60 GB had a full PS2 in them. The old 80 GB had a partial. The 60 GB never had software emulation (at least US consoles didn’t).
