Whether you’ve just cracked open that virgin PS3 this morning, or you’ve been using and abusing that beautiful piece of hardware since day one, you need a quality media server that isn’t troublesome or a headache-inducing annoyance… That’s when this cross-platform Java written PS3 Media Server comes into the picture.
PS3 Media Server is a DLNA compliant UPNP Media Server for the PS3, written in Java, with the purpose of streaming or transcoding any kind of media files, with minimum configuration. It’s backed up with the powerful Mplayer/FFmpeg packages.
PS3 Media Server features:
- Ready to launch and play. No codec packs to install. No folder configuration and pre-parsing or this kind of annoying thing. All your folders are directly browsed by the PS3, there’s an automatic refresh also.
- Real-time video transcoding via MEncoder, tsMuxer or Avisynth.
- DVD ISOs images / VIDEO_TS Folder transcoder.
- OGG/FLAC/MPC/APE audio transcoding.
- Thumbnail generation for Videos.
- You can choose with a virtual folder system your audio/subtitle language on the PS3!
- All formats PS3 natively supports: MP3/WMA, JPG/PNG/GIF/TIFF, and all kind of videos (AVI, MP4, TS, M2TS, MPEG) the ps3 is willing to play.
- ZIP/RAR files as browsable folders for pictures/audio files.
- Preliminary support for pictures based feeds, such as Flickr and Picasaweb.
- Preliminary Internet TV / Web Radio support with VLC, MEncoder or MPlayer.
Windows only:
- Lossless 5.1 PCM transcoding with DTS movies.
Ed even says it streams MKV’s with ease.
Now, because this project is likely to be updated frequently, I’ll link you to the Google Code page for all available downloads.

first post !
You are idiot psplover! What a useless post. YOu said: Wow! First post! It is not an question or answer. Just stupid first post.
Well if you used both hands to type, you might have written the first post wanker !!!!
No. You are the wanker sir :)
great comeback….
Your are a DumbFuck psplover…
“Like always silo is a Fag…
are you soposed to use it on ur ps3 or pc????
oh and by the way ur all idiots cuz telling someone that saying first post is a waste cuz its not a question or an answer but telling them that isnt either dumb fucks
You run this on your PC then check for media servers on your ps3. Look in the ps3 settings to activate media server if it aint already :)
hold on, what is this for ? for watching movies ? or really a hack ?
it’s not a hack sadly, it’s for streaming various media types to your ps3 from your computer — a movie, music, whatever…
you’d better fuCK You’re Self With little stick.
what you do in the privacy of your bedroom, is not really something you should share with us
nan , pretty useless
Why is your Nan pretty useless ?
has anyone actually fucking tried this shit yet
I did, its good to me. But, I think if yo uare going to be playing files that require on the fly encoding, it’s best you have a decent PC. You can change the amount of cores it uses too, which helps a lot if you have 4.
It ‘ s good think to hack ps3 as soon as you think . we can install Ps3 games on PC and run it in PS3 with sever (for lower HDD : Like 20 or 40 GIG)
Why dont you fucking try it and let us know….
I beleive this may be like PsMedia tunnel. But it may be diffrent somehow. Will post back after I try it out.
Has anyone tried this with some H264 encoded files ?
This works great, it still has some kinks but I can see this become very popular. Works flawlessly for most .mkv’s (yes also with h264’s). Mad props to the dev of this, thanks!
i dl this and kaspersky 2009 detects virus! trojan downloader!
and this is a shame coz i have been using some HOME MEDIA SERVER software but its shit and crashes all time!
and as for the vista 1 its shit!
so thought this would be good!
BEWARE OF VIRUS!
Oh mean i hate people like you.
People you knows nothing about computers who are running vista with anti spywares and anti viruses.
Claiming that everything it reports is true. Go die in a hole, go back to XP/Linux and learn some more about Computers.
its tru and i know a hell of alot about computers, and kaspersky is 1 of the best anti-virus’s,
hope ur happy with ur virus u cock!
The best anti-Virus is no anti-virus if you know how to use your computer you know how to not get infected. And if you do you know how to solve in it less than 10 sec(figure of speech). That’s “Knowing” how to use a computer. U remind me of the people that downloads hacking tools and their anti-virus spots it and they complain on the forums about it not knowing that “Hacking” tools are considered malicious applications.
sorry we are all not as experienced in computers and masturbating over internet porn and only socializing in WoW as yourself. But i use kaspersky and it is one of the best out there, though sometimes it detects “POTENTIAL” viruses that are not really viruses its just the way the software behaves.
It’s not a virus, vista is good if you know how to optimize it, and no anti virus is actually a bad thing. It’s better to have something that you run when you need too. Just turn off the auto detect stuff and if you notice anything weird, run it and see what it finds.
Draknoid go fuk ya mum!
i think i know a hell of a lot more about computers and hacking/cracking than you! GOOGLE ME YOU CUNT!
and this file and the older version contains a EXE virus not some java script an actual file that contains a virus!
and if you have vista then it has media server on it so you dont need this shit!
“go die in a hole”
umm just so that u know i could upload you a virus make it look legit and without anti virus ud be f*ckd
Ripperd you fucking retard, it’s called heuristic scanning, it detects what a program is designed to do and if it finds it opens ports etc, then it will flag it, based on characteristics of virii. It’s called a false positive you twat.
If you have a decent hardware firewall, and you’re not a complete 15 yr old angst ridden noob like ripperd, you should be fine, but i’d still recommend antivirus aswell.
And fuck you tomas, he’s letting people know not to take the word of a fucktard like ripperd.
Either you’re a dumn shit american, or just fucking retarded like the rest of the riddlin babies on the net these days.

i have tried it and it works perfectly so i suggest that everyone try it!!!
This is so old. Have it on my pc for like a month. Nothing new here and no real hack
does it already exists something to play cracked games??
no.
Great program works with all videos i have (anime movies etc.) easy to use. this is way better than nero and tversity.
OMG this program is AWESOME. Finally I can share my Linux desktop music and movies with my PS3 perfectly! Other programs simply didn’t work very well… but this… oh boy… perfect! I’ve also donated to the project… he/she/they deserve it!! Thanks a lot!
ok this look s so promising becuase. if you can stream media. you might be able to stream other things also will check. out
Would be nice if they made one that worked with JAVA 5 and not only just 6, us Intel Core Duo mac people can’t use this. Only works with the 64 Bit machines that use Intel Core 2. Or in other cases if you are using it on Linux or Windows then it should work fine. Ooh well i’ll stick to EyeConnect.
There is a Mac version also, have you not tried?
“PS3 Media Server for Mac OSX 1.01″
I know I downloaded the MAC version, but with our Version Intel Core Processors they don’t require Java 5 all the new PC’s and MACS use Intel Core 2 processors, so I can not use this, seeing I don’t have Java 6, so until they make a version of this that you can use with Java 5 then I’ll have to stick with using EyeConnect.
Here is another link more detail.
Have fun.

Talking about ps3 videos..is there a program or something that can play all video formats on the ps3
Is there a loss in quility in the video when streaming from pc to ps3?
I don’t know, all my files are in HD and my TV is SD. So if there is, I wont really notice. I will be able to tell you in the next week or so though when I get a new TV, I am long due for one.
No i dont really think so. Ive seen some movies I have that look better on the big screen.
I download blu-ray rips off the torrent sites……..they look amazing….probably couldnt tell the difference between a DVD and the rip.
Im not that naive to think thats its going to be blu-ray quality…but it may be close !
TVersity is still better than this. Ive got a few movie rips this thing cant play.
i use a program called simplecenter. its extremely easy to use and it works with nearly all my files.
Really? I loathed SimpleCenter since most of the video files I tried to stream came back as “unsupported data” on the PS3. Not to mention it was a resource hog.
This program is brilliant, and I haven’t run into a file that doesn’t play perfectly.
i haven’t had any problems. i use it to copy videos, music, and pictures to my ps3 hdd. as for a resource hog, it doesn’t bog me down at all. i can barely tell its running. i may try this program recommended in the future if i start having problems.
cant get it to unzip or open maybe its just me but 7zip crashes everytime
i use ushare, mediatomb MediaServer on my linux box they support ps3, open source and free ;)
but PMS is the best, i try it on my Fedora 10 box its perfect.
thanks dude http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/ great work.
tried it… and i usually use tversity… This is so much better than it. It actually works all the time. With Tversity on my xp machine it played back about 80pc of the stuff, even if it was in divx. This was the same for the VISTA machine, however every second day the server would dissapear for some reason.
PS3 Media server worked flawlessly on everything including HD MKV, divx, and DVD iso files. more like XBMC but not as cool looking. I will continue to try this :D I mean. Who doesn’t want HD content streamed :D
This works a treat.
Steamed .ts file in 720p hd flawless.
no neeed to burn discs anymore i hope :)
works a treat thanks
TVersity is fine as long as your not a total noob.
Open a port in the firewall, set it as an automatic service…works all the time.
And when you add something, just hit the refresh library button. I’ve got a few blu-ray rips that only play with TVersity.
Best thing is to get MKV2VOB and convert .mkv files to Mpeg’s……….the quality is perfect and even the Windows Media Player can play them.
“the quality is perfect and even the Windows Media Player can play them”
That’s because once it encode them they are no longer in HD resolution
This thread/place needs a moderator… 90% of all comments are disgusting and pointless.
I only want to read comments relating to the topic. Get a life kids.
For me it worked as good if not better than M$ Media Player.
Regards
so awhile back some guy who made a video of him playing a ISO on his ps3 said in dec we would have a ISO loder humm were is that at? welp i just wannted to bring it back and pretty much call that guy a fake. sorry this isnt important at all but u know.
dont bother with this if you have less then windowsxp it wont work becuase of the pack it needs wont run under less then xp
This thing is incredible!
Thank you so much.
there are just too many angry people around these days!
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
peace
Good application , thx
Wow the comments in this thread really need to be sorted out.
This is a great product, I have this installed on my Windows Home Server and so far no problems. I spoke to the developer who said he will be adding the option to install as a service in the next release or so. This will allow Windows Home Server to be logged off whilst running this product.
Basically if the movie is in a format that the PS3 can play it will just stream, (not encode), the file to the PS3. If the format needs encoding then it will encode it on the fly.
The layout on the PS3 is good, displays the files as they are on your PC in a directory format. Each directory has another directory called TRANSCODE. If you select this directory then you’ll see a list of files the same as the previous directory, however if you select one the file will be transcoded on the fly, i.e you use this for films that are in a format that the PS3 can;t play.
I’m running this on a server with Windows Home Server, 2.4GB dual core with 2GB RAM. This product, although simple and basic, has 100% success for me. It works better for me than TVersity, Twonky etc. It’s not bloated, doesn’t need installing, just simple and works.
Best program for me for the PS3. Pictures & MP3s work as well.
Hope this is useful to somebody.
Running under Win2K, absolutely no problems. Just frikkin’ works.
RiPPERD you are a complete idiot haha anyone who makes viruses would not leave a java script/ batch file by itself. go google binder.
Best PS3 media server hands down! Even the “pay for” media servers don’t compare to this
Hello greg,
YEHHHHH Super ……
i´ve tested your MediaServer under ubuntu8.1 on a dual core Notebook. It works very very well. Realy good JOB.
PS.: It is 10 times better than TVersity ;-)
ThX
ye i used this it works great, finally i can watch the movies that have subtitles.
Works great for me, even plays HD stuff. Superb
still got some issuse with stuttering on playback but overall a very good app keep up with the updates thanks!
I’ve tried this on an OS X system and it works great but will not stream *.mkv files.. is there something that I’m missing?
Are you on tiger?
Nope using Lepord 10.5.6
PS3 just shows MKV files as corrupted data type
I cant get it to work on my leopard
Azureus comes included with the UPnP Media Server plugin. By default no files will be made available via its service. However, “Azureus” may start showing up on your devices that access UPnP Media Servers.
Downloaded files can be streamed to players (both local and remote) by using the “Media Server” context menu options available in the MyTorrents view and specific download’s Files view.
If publishing of content is enabled this allows UPnP Media Server players to browse and stream downloads managed by Azureus.
http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/UG_Plugins#UPnP_Media_Server
Azureus is quite good when it comes to streaming but a PIA when it comes to setting it up – sometimes folder shares won’t get recognised for example. I have used Medialink and Azureus to do the same job and Azureus is rock solid but Medialink is a lot more elegant. Unfortunately both Azureus & Medialink also srewed up my console.log files which were all of a sudden 35GB. I am very much looking forward to trying this new software.
While you lot All Argue.. I think that the Media Server is the Easiest and fastest Media Server OUT!!!!
After playing around with it got to agree, photos, music and video no quality loss, h264/x264 are brilliant (provided you have a fast network) and can even use my 4 cores + run the program as a service!
Fucking great software, def the best media streamer i have used hands down.
Great work!!
I’ve tried running it on my quad core AMD and it works great for 720p but the playback starts stuttering with 1080p and ideas or tuning that I can do?
Perhaps the amount of data being pumped thru is just too much? I take it you’re using ethernet (rj45 cat5e)?
Wired network should be gigabit, unfortunately the wireless in the ps3, in oz at least, only supports 802.11b/g, so no n+ goodness for now.
Better than TVersity?? Maybe.
Streams well when coded properly, and the transcoding works well too. It will even recognize srt subtitle files in the same folder as the video file. Nice
does anyone know how a good website for downloading free movies onto a ps3?
click on my name
This program is easier than playing games on my PS3. No more transferring movies to memory stick, no more burning to disc wasting discs and space for them to get dusty and most of all, no more hassle. No installation is required. Turn on your PS3, click the .exe file on your PC, set the folder in the program on your PC you want to share and your done. The PS3 automagically finds the server and/or the program finds your PS3 and your done. I want to thank the maker of this fine app and hope there is updates to come.
Working on Windows XP SP3
Quad Core
Wireless N (secured network)
FLAWLESS
Have tested:
.avi
.divx
.vob
.mkv
.mpg
.mpeg
and more that I’m probably forgetting.
Thanks again.
This is great it even plays avi and etc. movies with separate subtile files .srt and .sub etc…NICE up PS3 media Server……..THANKs so Much ………….
OMFG. The amount of time i spent playing around with Tversity to get it to friggin work!!!!!
This java media server is excellent. It works! right off the bat. No fucking around. IT PLAYS EVERYTHING. (mkv included) FLAWLESSLY!!!!! It actually shows up in the PS3 every time. You can actually fast forward an entire episode without it shitting itself.
This is the best thing since sliced bread.
10/10
Damn, I’m looking forward trying this one, for sur!!!
We should all donate a little something, if it is that great, I am going to try it out right now!!!
Where can we donate to the project?
I’m using TwonkyMedia at the moment, no probs with that apart from having to remux .mkv with “mkv2vob”.
I will try this but I will have to upgrade my server to do trancoding (1ghz p3 lol, but works fine at the moment)
this is goo but the best media server for the ps3 is the new windows media center that comes with windows 7.
Organzies it all for you and with the new media center it even supports the codecs needed finally a all in one application
lol, fuck M$, i use only linux on my non gaming machines. Ubuntu 8.1 is great even for noobs, and i personally think it’s better than windoze.
Please don’t take it as elitism, and all that bollocks, pc’s are brilliant, they’re designed to be played around with, open source if you will.
Learn some shit in the process, get a barebones pc together using shit, giggles, odds and ends, you’ll be amazed at the performance afforded by a lowend crapbox running a linux variance, secure as hell aswell.
On the cable front aswell, if you’re running network cable thru your house, just remember cat6a will give you up to just over 20gigabit per second, as a data network cable, and also for hdmi aswell. Data and media rooms, cat 6a kicks ass.
Peace.
Ya lets screw around for 18 hours to run the newest video card instead of playing a game or getting something done By all means everyone just stop doing anything and find out why your linsux doesn’t have a driver for the latest gaming mouse or simply a keyboard. Then you can go complain about it on the Logitech boards all day. Ah windows is here get over it.
By the way this media server rocks. It works with little or no setup. good job guys.
PS3 Media Server is awesome. I’ve avoided freebie solutions before because they’ve always needed some tweaking or yet more third party/open source add-ons to make them work. But this thing, you just install and run. It’s all self contained, no need for extra codecs etc.
Heck it even searches for your PS3 on the network if the PS3 is powered up and establishes the link.
And the real kicker? It will stream movies in MKV containers! Wahoo! Try it and you’ll never want to go back to Tversity or any other solution.
This will also stream web content to the PS3, such as Flickr albums and even internet radio and TV stations.
It does what it claims to with no misleading expectations.
Simply amazing media server software. period.
It combines all those other programs to convert virtually any video/audio you might have into a format that the PS3 plays.
I have spent the last few days trying to use Orb and TVesrsity…and programs like mkv2vob, all types of converters and media splitter software and reformatting file systems..
Ps3 media server does everything for you flawlessly most of the time.
its god-sent- simply amazing…I forgot the last time i used a product and it worked so well and fit my needs so perfectly. I will donate because if i found this in a store I would easily pay $50+ for it.
oh, and of course not only does it convert but it seamlessly streams the content to your ps3.
btw, I have:
- p9400(?) quad core processor
-6gb RAM
-100MB wlan connection
-the network isn’t shared with any other devices (my other desktop is off 99% of the time)
