Ooo — looks like StreetskaterFU (SKFU) is onto something… Something big… Fully dumped and fully decrypted is Sony’s own PS3 Home Beta 0.86.
While certainly a major breakthrough in itself, I don’t believe this has led to any vulnerability just yet. Hang tight as developers and hackers poke around; perhaps they’ll unravel the secret to finally exploiting Sony’s slick piece of hardware. Wherever we end up — it’s no doubt a step in the right direction.
Kudos SKFU.

Comments (135)Somewhat useless, as far as I’m concerned; but perhaps someone will prove me otherwise. Over at ps3gen a firmware 2.50 discovery was made — the PS3 Recovery Menu.
While the PS3 is in standby mode, press and hold the power button until you hear two consecutive beeps. When prompted, attach the controller via USB and press the PS button. News tipper, Mentality, confirms it.
Tech support probably uses this in attempt to recover your console should the damage be minimal; otherwise, you’re FedExing that PS3 out for repair. But maybe, just maybe — this Recovery Menu can be exploited somehow, someway…
