…a new Wireless Keypad for PS3 that will make text communications and Web browsing much easier. The Wireless Keypad snaps onto the top of a SIXAXIS or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller and comes with some cool features, including a mode that turns the main key area into a touch pad (similar to a touch pad on a Laptop computer). Once in this mode, you can slide your finger on this area to move the cursor on the screen and tap to enter. There will be two short cut buttons on the Keypad that will enable users to jump directly to the XMB’s “Friends” icon and the “Message Box” during gameplay.
The PS3 Wireless Keypad should be available late November. And also slated for a November release — the new PS3 160GB bundle with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

Could prove to be very useful. Not sure why they keep bringing out PS3’s with larger HDDs when it quite simple to upgrade the drive yourself.
Mostly cause the smaller drives are out of date and no longer exist for retail. Unless you goto a comp parts store like tigerdirect that carry alot of out of date material.

exactly, ive been experimenting with my controller in my hands and i hav no idea how id reach the keypad if it was above the controller, it needs to be below like the 360 txt pad.
I dont like it at all. im not going to waste my money for a keyboard controller that ill barely be able to use because the keys are too small. ill just stick with my keyboard and mouse. Better for web browsing anyway.
They should of put the keyboard underneath the Analog Sticks…that is just bad design…should of taken some notes from the Xbox 360 mini Keyboard they have….

wouldnt it just be easier to by a bluetooth keyboard full sized so you can switch between the two.. saves the weight on the controller so you can play games more effectively

To call this add-on a xbox copy is stupid. Especially when your reference XBOX “M$” the kings of copy. 90% of their products are someone else companies idea. M$ took the PS controller design and integrated it to what the 360 controller is today. Sure people can say copy but as it was stated earlier, no matter what hits the market. It will in some form a replica of something else. Keep the dumb xbot comments to your self.
ehhhh i dunno i feel like this is competing with the 360 controller chat pad and that thing requires big hands but i like this better cuz its on the top so it could be easier to mess around with
Looking at the picture it looks quite useful and sound in design IMO. Hit start, pause the game, hit the ps button, move your hands up and wrap around the sides of the keyboard, type a message much faster now, especially when you’re in game and need to use messaging if there’s no chat support or the bluetooth headset runs out of battery. Looks like it’ll take some getting used to but everything needs some getting used to, hopefully they tested it with some actual gamers and got feedback on the ergonomics and design of it for the final product.
What I really wanna know is if they will make this work for the PSP using the mini usb port… Now that would be useful!!

Ugh. I don’t like it. That sucks. You have to put your typing thumbs up in front of your gaming. The keyboard should be in the back like MS has it. So that you can more easily get back to gaming in a flash when you need to. Not be bothered with trying to figure out where your fingers need to be when you try to get them back into position because your hands were blocking your view when you were trying to get back into gaming position. Gaming is more important that IMing. The Keyboard should be in the back.
