If you’re so inclined you could leave you’re computer on 24/7 downloading it and it wouldn’t cost you a cent if you’re not paying the electricity bill. Leave a computer running for 24 hours or something no problem, leave an xbox360 running for 24 hours and hope after that it’s not burned to a crisp.

The 60gb PS3 had an backup ram from the ps2 hardware Emulation I think it was 128 of ram that was to help with the ps3 game If the 512 got jammed up but they dropped it because of the newer ps3 don’t have this capability and it cost to much To produce the 60gb PS3 it very hard information to come by it like well forgotten

This update aint too bad, atleast they support being able to play vids over 2gb and with subtitle support, as well as the resume play which is pretty good. I don’t have a PSP, so couldn’t care less.

I just installed it and theres not much to be said about it… The best thing about it is that DIVXs that exceed 2 gigs can now be streamed/played w/e.. Other than that, its another useless update….

Well now I can say I’m not updating as I just find out just came from q/j 2.17 is now hack some hacker forgot there name lol got in the system file don’t know if true but try I try the tiff exploit on 2.17 it did read it after play around with it I boot up R:FOM and MS but it will do the usually lock up but when switching disk it won’t read after that But it promising that 2.17 have an exploit man I not updating for nothing because there bound for thing good in 2.17 that why Sony release 2.20 ASAP they are watching us you know lol I find this S**t right after update R:FOM just to find out my it support rumple so yea I’m setup good

The PS3 and PSP are base on the PSX that never came to the US The PSX was a dvd recorder dvd player that can play PS2 game I think you also can record tv show it had a built in hard drive It was the first Sony system to have the XMB menu setup

Yeah except it costs an arm and a leg to get one on ebay, (think PS3 after launch – $600 plus I’ve seen them for) and from some reports it seems no one can break or change the damn thing. Unable to make it display in english, only in japanese cause it wasn’t released anywhere else because it didn’t sell that well so it was cancelled. The best part of it I think was it’s ability to create dvd’s and to act as a pvr as well.
The PS3 and PSP are using the XMB interface that was first introuduced in the PSX/PS2, that’s all.

Well, Xbox 360 has the games, and an amazing online community, but, i refuse to pay to play online.
The Wii is a joke, a gamecube with a motion sensitive controller, last gens tech in a new cover.
But the PS3+PSP, will be, when sony finally get there finger out and release HOME, the exact thing that mr billy gates wanted the Xbox 360 to be, the center of my home entertainment experiences, blue ray player, social area, PVR, and look, new harddisk from local store 4x the size of MSs 120GB xbox drive for a third the price.

Just updated to 2.20. DivX subtitle works but not with separate .srt file. You must remux the divx and srt files with Sub2DivX. To enable the subtitle, press triangle button while playing back the divx and choose the subtitle option.

Another fairly un-exciting update, the Divx file size and subtitle fixes are nice, but I’m more concerned with the random incompatibility of some files when they were created with the same app, using the same codec etc etc, I have all of my movies on my pc as avi files, so when they first made Divx compatible a few updates ago, I was ecstatic, but after trying 20-odd files to have 13 say unsupported data, I wasn’t so happy :/

Till the day you see a legitimate hack hello world proof-of-concept for this device I don’t see what’s the point of using proxy’s or firmware bypass apps – do you see anything anywhere on the internet to indicate that a legit real exploit is coming out???
When ever we get a yes to one of these above then it might be time to get out and walk around, read a book, exercise or play single player non-network to avoid updating. Till then might as well just Shut Up, update the box and play online or stream or whatever else you do with the damn thing.

Considering there are links at the top of this page connecting it to the http://www.psp-hacks.com website; before pandora a new exploit released on that site saw a release of a new firmware sometimes the next day or two.
This site however; doesn’t have that, it only has speculation, rumors and everything else that’s fit to print. It is what it is, at least for now.
I just check some of my XVID files and they work fine on the ps3 60gb with update 2.20. Looks like better Divx wasn’t the only thing they added! If they can add better h264, MKV, and ac3 support I can watch a lot of the new fansubs(shana season 2,Rosario Vampire) Also put in OGM container support as well. I really wish they could add support to use your own hard or external hard drives that would make playback faster but that would definately make ps3 so easy to hack
I have a 400 gb external hard drive that I use with mine. google “fat32 large hard drive format”. I don’t know if there is a size limit, but I know 400gb can be formatted to use external w/ ps3.

ok… I’d just like to point a few things out that reading through these comments no one has picked up on yet, I do a lill web design so I know what i am on about here… by the looks of things sony has designed there ps3’s os in two parts, the main core of the system and then the features such as remote play internet etc… if you notice sony release the first update which improves the stabillity of the system the main core, then they release a second update the features. This is a realy good idea as it brakes down the coding and is esier to maintain pluss people can work on more than one part, Unfortunitly as the os is in two parts it makes it more difficault to combine the two like playing a game which runs from the main core of the os and using a feature like in game xmb so you have to access both at the same time. Ok we are a bit behind but who cares… look at what our ps3’s can do! they are a lot more stable than the 360 and to be hounest our features are better than the 360 in some respects but we are getting there. Just give sony a chance, or if you like you know what ms’s software track record is…CRAP!

If you’re wearing a blutooth headset and playing COD4, just turn the stereo on and listen to whatever is on your ipod (or however you want to do it). I’ve got a 360 and it’s a little sluggish (just a little) when trying to play music and a game. Here’s what they should do… find a way for the two networks to talk to each other so there can be an all-out war between consoles on whatever online games they have in common. AND what!

Right on Stepnage, maybe the first intelligent conclusion in this entire form. Because of the ps3 multi core design it’s os dedicates certain processes to the cores, that is the function of the main cpu, it divides the work to the spe’s as wheel as acting like a general use processor, the real power processing is in the spe’s. The challenge of the in game xmb is, you are already in a game so the 6 spes in most cases are already doing something and the 7th spe is handling the system functions like security, services, network services, os IO as well as other things. So in result the whole system is in use and if you were to then transition to the xmb some of the game process would have to be loaded off of the spes and the main cpu or they could be ran in parallel witch in this case is the more likely result, in conclusion the problem standing is a smooth transition with no loss of data, and no or miniscule load times. The ps3 system has a monster under the hood it just needs to be harnessed with good programming.

omg its official i hate the ps3 now. the latest firmware made my ps3 unable to play ps2 games. ive tried 10 diff games they all wont load. last week they loaded perfectly. Damn you sony!!
Mabye we are looking at this the wrong way. Mabye instead of directly messing with the firmware on the console… it would be possible to modify the update data, changing what we need…then burning it to an ISO/DISC. That way, instead of trying to change the firmware… we load up a ‘Future’ version of the xmb with modified features… then we can run it from there…sort of like emulating firmwares on the PSP…but not actualy changing it. The only downside may be that less PS3 ram is available… but it could be programmed to overwrite the original xmb data….just an idea.

do u think maybe the new firmware checks for OTHEROS installed and if u have “tried to use” 1 of the many fakes iso loaders it blocks u out?

how hard would it be to hack the sixaxis controller?,you can write unasigned code for computers right? its the most hackable thin. then use it to run hombrew on ur pc. you can hook your pc and ps3 to the same tv it would be just like the ps3 was hacked if we could only use the controller with other programs, it seems like it can be done with bluetooth computers, right?

Yes the controller does work but with a usb cable though, I got mine to work under windows xp lke in the demo, you can download the drivers from the downloads section of this web site, I did however runn in to a few compatabillity isues with windows vista, sometimes it worked then it diddn’t. When you have it all set up it shoule work like a normal game pad for windows and depending on the emulator it will be under controll options.
not sure if it was 2.17 or 2.20 but since ive updated i cant get into the psnetwork on my dialup proxy anymore =(
sidenote, i connected it to my friends cable internet and it logged in. im wondering if the update scans to see your connection speed and then logs u out if its to slow like dialup. also i can still use internet on proxy
and last comment, they should make it possible to download flash videos so i can play salad fingers on my ps3 lol

Developers are workin with 50GB Blu ray disks, which means games are gonna be longer, more features. Not to mention the best processor ever invented the cell.

The Ps3 has been out for this long already and they still put out some pretty shit games that dont even come close to using the full power of the ps3…….it has a good game every 4-5 months. Shits weak.
I just got a 40G PS3 and is a v2.01 and i want the new v2.20 i already downloaded the v2.20 but i dont know how to put it on a CD-R and from that CD-R i want to put it on the PS3. Can somebody please help me out
I also want to know if i buy a separate 100G harddrive and i put it on the PS3 how do i program it and get it to work normally. please help me out.
