Ah, ha! Potentially some good news concerning Sony’s PS3 console and evading their nasty security measures; I say potentially because it stems from those at ps3news… *Nods*
CJPC is reporting the successful decryption of a PS3 ELF file off an original retail game disc. This method removes both the disc and file layer of encryption on the EBOOT.BIN.
In addition, they also claim to have successfully downgraded a PlayStation 3 console without need for a flash dump backup, “…to downgrade your PS3 you first need a copy of the original firmware (made with Infectus). However our method does not need any flash backup, as it uses the PS3’s updates to downgrade for us.”
Although it’s certainly possible, no release has been made… Could this be it — the PS3 finally hacked? Will Sony survive another round? Who knows… Tune in again — anytime, same PS3 channel. Yeah, you know what’s up.

if it is possible to downgrade withought flashing it, then we could downgrade to 1.10 and play copied games, and with the security being so low, lots of coders will work on it playing later games with modding firmware files using custom applications, the possibilities are endless :D

hey bukko, why dont u just run the original disk through dvd decryptor on your pc..ok you gotta make a copy, but a blank disk costs 20p. dvd decryptor will strip the region and then u can watch it on your ps3 :)

I’ve also got a large back catalogue of ps2 games that would be nice to play — granted i’ve not touched them since i bought the ps3 but you get my meaning

You can’t play copied games in any firmware 1.10 or 2.10 doesn’t matter, downgrade is not important at this time around for PS3!

Just sit down and think about it for a sec, 1. i don’t think the frist hack is going to let you play games off the HDD as the partion is Fat32 and can’t support a file over 4gigs SOoo we will Need a BlueRay burner and DR-CDs And Who makes BR-CDs and Burners ???? SONY!!! =) (And yea i am Sure Some Games can fit on DVD-DL But sooner or letter you’ll need Buleray for them Copyed Movies,and new games)

Vista can’t run on PPC, neither PS3 can’t be emulated on pc. (Only if you got monster pc with the ps3 spec doubled. Like 2 8 cores processor, or 16 cores….) (Normally, emulation requires 1.5 times the specs of the console emulated…)

in a windows environment the ps3 gets outperformend by a pentium 3, unless a version of windows is written specifically for the ps3 its not happening. and the ps3 doesent have an 8 core processor, it has 1 processor and 8 spe’s which arent capable of performing anywhere near as well as a processing core, however thats not to say the processor isnt powerful, but it DOESENT have 8 cores, only one.
but anyway, it would probably take more than that, your forgetting that the timings between processor(s), gpu(s), memory, bus, bios, etc also has to be taken into consideration. if 1.5 was true than pcsx2 would be able to run on a computer with a 600mhz single core processor and a geforce fx 5 series graphics card, yet it takes a single core processor exceeding 3ghz and a geforce 6800 AT LEAST to run the bloody thing, and if you want to run it WELL it takes a dual core over 3ghz and a 7800 or better, and even then the emulation sucks. timings between processor and spes, gpu, memory, etc. adds a lot more work into what has to be done, its going to take something signifantly more powerful that 1.5x to run an emulator for a console, theres just too much that has to be emulated, and thats not even including the rendering of the assets.

ITS NOT!!!! in july dark alex and jerk nig (sony programmer (real name disclosed due to sony ninja that might kill him, no im joking about that but dead serious about the rest)finally teams with legendary dark alex)are going to revolutionize the gaming industry. Xbox system will not sale anymore when you can do it all from your ps3. i hate bullshit news, oh and do i have news for you this isnt fake!, for sure dark alex reffers to the sony programmer as jn. this pair recently teamed together so jn hasnt been helping with all dark alex’s psp cfw all the credit goes to dark alex for the psp. JN specializes in the ps3 system core he knows it like the back of his hand. Wow is all i have to sayi really hope sony wont put a hit out for them this is some serious shit!!!
I would love to see Sony PS3 run Xbox 360 games. Like Sega Dreamcast when it ran most playstation games that was the shit. Seta backdown for a reason… Anyways MS would finely be loseing again.

If homebrew is the deal for you, why don’t you install a linux OS onto a second partition? True, there aren’t any drivers for the graphics card now, but then again, even if the PS3 is hacked, there won’t be any support for the graphics card either. So, thinking along these lines, isn’t the PS3 already “hacked”?
