My friend Alessandro brought this link (see source) to my attention late last night some time. I refrained from posting because, well, to be honest, I’m skeptic. There’s only video proof and we all know what Hollywood is capable of. Even then, the video doesn’t actually prove much. And not to mention similar hoaxes surrounding the community which never materialized into anything. It goes on and on… I’ve decided to post now after a number of people emailed in the same news. So, you decide. Here’s the low-down so far…
Team ICE and StreetskaterFU claim to have discovered an exploit allowing the execution of unsigned code on the latest 2.10 firmware. They’ve already got an application converting ELF binaries to SELF — no release for that yet. The SELF code apparently runs but does not initialize video output. Development continues and once the video initialization issue is corrected, “Hello World” will be concrete proof.
Again, take this news with a grain of salt. Watch the video, decide for yourself, and leave your opinion below. Keep those fingers crossed!

serious
I hope this right here develops into something useful. O.O
B.S.
3 minutes of my life WASTED
yup…..
worst…”hack”…ever…
At least its something, admittedly, video is proper boring…but lets hope it leads to something. remember…no news is good news! so here’s to another couple of months of absolutely FU@K ALL!!! Peace out
I haven’t checked the scene for a while and seeing the homepage their are like two homebrew things. This seems like it might be legit. DOn’t flame me im just guessing.
Someone posted this on the Sony forums…if it is an exploit that means we’ll be getting a firmware update soon.
Yeah but with no exploit out in the wild or anything Sony doesn’t know whether it’s real or not and can only go by the video. They claimed they messed around with the Resistance update files in the video so Sony can’t really know what they did allegedly to the files to get what he claims in the video. So unless they go looking for it based on the info from that video and any other source they use they won’t necessarily find any exploit or loophole to patch.
sony will be working on it. they just need the direction (the patch) and from there they can find all the things that could allow access to unsigned code, then block them
Sony will release a new firmware regardless just per chance it could lead to something. I’m gonna hold back on the updating personally though, I’m thinking this will have some substance to it - hopefully anyway.
The new OS thats been released could also lead to something if they want to go somewhere in the way of loading ISO’s - if they don’t there are plenty of hackers out there who could reverse engineer their work and create a loader. There are so many options being made available now, something has to work.
I believe they’ve achieved exactly what this shows. A blank screen. I don’t “see” that their code is being run, I see a frozen PS3. This is very reminiscent of a certain tiff exploit that was “discovered” a few months back.
Until there’s a “hello world”, there’s nothing to be excited about.
exactly.
if this works well need CFW
this is an OLD “hack” and its not worth anything. (was found summer 2007)

http://www.ps3news.com/PlayStation3/ICE_dethaws_old_RFOM_crash_claims_hack_LOL-1/
You are correct, sir. Sad to see this waste of a site post information that is clearly fake or has been reported before (like last year). They should just shut down this so-called hacks site, just a waste.
and yet u believe what ps3news has to say?
about ps3news there site is full of viruses and spy ware that guys is very gay and behind those all there is sony.we know that about 2 years now. dark-alex was problem with that freaks there ,so stay away from ps3news at least
cjpc member from ps3news is working with sony.how did ps3news get there hands on a ps3 dev machine?
im sceptic, and even if its true i dont think its wise to tell everyone about it until its working proprely, since this can help sony to prenvent it to happend whit new update.
I don’t think so, if you know the history that when on between ps3news and dark alex then you would know those guys totally aint working for sony, for god sake, they edited code from one of dark-alex’s releases that clearly stated, if anyone related to p3snews used it, it would cause problems and if it was edited it was fuck em up. When he edited it “AND RELEASED IT” it ended up fucking up a whole load of the ps3news users psps, in which case he removed it quickly so not to take any responsability.
Sadly, this is false and an utter waste of time. For starters, the ‘exploit’ used to launch the code is quite dated. It uses Resistance: Fall Of Man to copy a replacement EBOOT.BIN to the PS3’s HDD. This is quite similiar to the Warhawk method, however is a bit more constrained.
wow, fuck all you douche bags. this is something.
all you do is sit around and bitch about there not being any hacks. then when somebody finally has something, you say its fake or nothing at all. well where the fuck do you think all the great shit comes from? it has to start somewhere.
these are only the beginnings of what could or could not be something. team ICE doesnt know, but they ARE doing something and making progress. they dont know if its something big or not, but they DO know more than you assholes.
stop acting like children and STOP TALKING SHIT!!!
It’s not something, get over it douchebag
And ICE don’t know shit, you fucking tard
you tell him Jeff
Guys… Krust is actually making alot of sense. Go over to psp hacks and look at the latest headlines, then look for the very first news headline in the archives. Huge difference. I mean, the very first homebrew code was nothing but a poc video efects displayer. Now compare that to irshell and 3.80 M33. I guarantee you that given time, this could turn into something. lol Dark Alex get your ass over here! xD
whoa. good job, keep it up. thank god i bought resistance.
Hey I Know how to run ps2 isos off a memory stick using some thing my mate gave me but this may be usful and maybe help us boot ps3 backed up games ?
No you don’t, stop talking shit
Actually i do =]
You are running PS2 isos from memory stick on a retail PS3?? Please enlighten the rest of us..
i have to use the install other os and puse a disk my m8 gev meh and put sum files on ps3 and use a program on pc to rip tha disk and change a few files on it then put the iso on to a memory stick and works like a charm
Ok so you’re the only person in the whole world who knows this hack. Besides, there is no way you can load ISOs from the PS3. You’re a fucking fake so just stop now.
I Know Quite a Few People Actaully try searching On google im sure you will find it
Idiot, unless it’s on this site and it’s been proven it works, you are full of shit. Google did nothing but prove how much of a fucking tool you are. Nice try.
Look harder Then and this site is out of date i mean this hack is old ps3 hacks have only discovered it. So Why Dont You Stop Talking Shit Loser
I don’t need to look any further, you’re a liar and a douchebag. Thanks for trying!
Haha you keep belieiving that….i found it and ure sad enough to always be on here and still havnt…
GET A LIFE
Well, if you’re the elite hacker who found a way to load ISOs on the PS3, please enlighten the rest of us then. Until you do, you’re a lying cocksmoker. :)
haha im not that clever to have made the hack but clever enough to find it :) i dont know why im wasting my time here tbh TRY SEARCHING AROUND AND YOU WILL FIND IT YOU FAG !!
Paul, I quote your opening statement “I Know how to run ps2 isos off a memory stick using some thing my mate gave me but this may be usful and maybe help us boot ps3 backed up games”
Indeed it may help us, but not if you don’t share the info with the wider community. I have also searched for further info, only to find endless links to ‘fakes’. You obviously do have a way to do this, or you would not have posted back here so many times. There must be some ‘program names’ on these things your mate gave you, that’s all we need. Going Biffo with Jeff doesn’t help, and your replies never back up your original statement. Keep us all happy and let us know more info. Thanks.
Paul don’t know anything, if ISO’s could be loaded it would be on this site & all the other ps3 hacks sites. I am sorry to say Paul, I wish you could load ISO’s on PS3, but not yet…..
I think Oktane is right. Paul get a life!!!
Well seeing as the PS3’s kernel locks out a majority of the kickass ahrdware needed to run an emulator, and that not even Wine can run an emulator appropriately, You will not see ISOs running on a MSPD on the PS3, not with the Game OS not with the YDL. I have a pretty nice laptop and it still has issues with emulators for PS2.
This will not amount to running isos I swear it.
this is BS. all they did is freeze the PS3…big whoop. A blank blue screen proves they are running their own coding…i think…I KNOW not. sorry but this is a load of crap and some of you must like the taste of feses.
all you people are all ignorant all there telling you is that they are able to run there own code its little steps towards something big
omfg! seriously ive seen so much ignorance in these comments, i pity you idiots who say this is BS, you defenely, with your ignorant minds, do not comprehend the process because you know nothing about computers, much less hacking. This is a great step to the future, if it did indeed run unsigned code.
It’s a step nowhere, the only people who are ignorant are people like you that eat up all this bullshit.
because you know nothing about computers doesnt mean you know all, I agree, if this is true, then its a great step to the future. Mate do you bloody know what ignorant means, no? Look it up in a dictionary and learn something for once!
The only thing on that video I liked was the background music, who played it? Where can I buy or download it?
The Song is from the SoundTrack The Island, preformed by Steve Jablonski, The Song is:My name is Lincoln and it’s on LimeWire, if you want to rip off Steve!!- You should not, he deserves the Money, is a good Song.
If this exploit is real and alows to run unsigned codes will this mean PS3 Firmware updates will be more often just like the PSP?
No, it would only mean one update.
If it’s actually real, and if it can actually be made to do something besides freeze the system then it shouldn’t more then one update to patch it then. PSP gets updates because there’s so many holes in it, and cause they keep adding and changing stuff on it.
oh well I’m pretty sure sony will fuck up again some day. 1.50-3.50 had exploits now people just use pandora which means exploits on the PSP is kinda not useful. but more custom firmwares :D
If you want to play roms on the ps3 so badly why not add a mod chip?? most people like homebrew for pirating which is the bomb but illegal and no one gives credit.
This didn’t actually show anything…. the music was over the sooo called ‘POP’…….. The screen turned blue because it might have been his TV changing the HDMI output (Budget TV)! Also at what point do we see this ‘Unassigned code???’ (WOW they showed a resistance game save!!!) The BLANK Screen…….. Have you tried Editing a game Save on notepad on your PC??? Could be similar to the restart of the PS3 except this time, due to the updates its tries to display a message! I got a bit confused by the Warhawk bit…. did he just change the Warhawk Game save??? If so why didn’t he try loading that game!?AND WHEN DID HE CHANGE IT!!!!! I see this Cock trying this again soon lol and he’ll say it worked because when did we actually see him put a Copy Blu Ray game in???? Anyways, I HOPE SOMEONE DOES HACK IT SOON…(I’LL BUY IT STR8 AWAY!) GOOD LUCK!
at what point did he say he was able to play backups??? no point. he was jus saying he can run unsigned code which is one of the first steps to backups
man i’ll hack the balls out of the ps3
i’, going to combine all these tiff bullshit hacks and this game save/u[date shit and create one super hack fuk ya
Anyone who believes this is something new or an actual hack is a complete retard along with all the other stupid idiots who think an ISO loader will be along anytime soon.
im not gonna say good work, or anything (im not into black screens with nothing) but if team ICE manages to do something big with this somehow, all you @$$holes will end up eating your own $#!T.
Team ICE, if you read this (i doubt it) keep doing your stuff, at least is something, After all, this….”people” in here will be the same ones saying “OMFFGGG, YOU GUYZ ARE TEH 1337!!!!!!!!!111one!!1″ in the future. So, keep it up, and bring something to shut their mouths.
Still perpetuating false hope… and being a fucking twat about it too.
stfu kid before i put you over my knee and give you something to REALLY cry about…
What are you gonna make him ride ur sausage u fudge packer.
hahahhahaha holy crap i almost shit my self that was so funny. but yea sparky child molesters are not allowed here. (somewhere there really is a child molester reading this and laughing thinking haha im here)
you know, all i have to say is, i really dont care if you hacked the ps3 or not, because at the end of the day i will support my computer games companies, by purchasing the games i want to own and enjoy! so good luck hackers, i mean look at the psp, totally owned, no one cares, but i think hackers need to prove themselves that they can hack the ps3, although i hope even if they do, they do it for fun…..
peace.
alright, there has obviously been some video editing here because as you can clearly see during step 2, the ps3’s background changes from one killzone picture in the beginning, to another at the end
it could be a killzone theme that has multiple backgrounds and they will randomly switch every time u leave and return to the xmb…
:-(
aww man… i thought i made a good observation…
your stating the obvious roxzor of course its been edited
its showing all the different tests they have carried out
they might have done the tests at different times
just go out and get a xbox360
Already got one
and it’s broke…again…..
all i know is this is better than the fake crap from ps3 news
whose admin thinks he is part of the maffia lul :D
so im supposed to believe that a blank screen is actually unassigned code huh?…hmmmm
obviously you dont have to see things to know things are going on in the background
for example just take a look at your pc hundres of process going on that you cant see
screw that im gonna miss out on home and other features for a hack everyone want to play iso cuz they cant afford the games… I HOPE ITS FAKE AND THE PS3 NEVER GETS HACKED… thats what my psp is for and im satisfied with that…
shut the fuck up and get over yourself
OK, im tired of you douchebags, let me emlighten you. what do you think the psp tiff exploit did before the hello world code was added to it?, ill tell you, IT MADE A BLACK SCREEN U
FUCKTARDS, even after an exploit is found, it STILL requires coding before it does ANYTHING,
only time can tell, and another thing
PS3NEWS is currently the victim of a DDOS (Distributed Denial Of Service) attack, and their site is offline, and ppl did that because they fucking ruin everything for everyone INCLUDING releasing the source code for DAX’s CFW, they are about as reliable a a fucking rock trying to swim.
LOL all these post are people threatening and bashing each other over the internet. Calling each other stupid, yet your arguing over a lame ass website like it’s the reality of your life. Who gives a flying fuck if this is real or a fake. When something comes out, it comes out. Until then I’m gonna watch the water in my toilet spin and fuck anyone who says thats lame.
Horrible. After 3 minutes they are able to freeze the PS3 up and are claiming to be running their own code.
I’ve noticed nothing special. The same thing happens, when you try to launch updated Assassin’s Creed with system language switched to Russian. Game starts, gives error message and goes to long reboot.
i have a magic trick to show u… if u turn around i will disappear… ive smelt bullshit before… and this smells like manuer
This is confirmed fake, so please take it down.
figured as much. where was it confirmed?
it was confirmed @ ps3news.
It turned out to be old IBM codes for ppc computers.
Background music is from The Island soundtrack. Track 14. God I love TrackID!
How can we know there is an unsigned code being run when all you see is their blank screen. I’m also curious as to why the ‘Playstation 3′ startup logo goes so quickly, did they speed that up? If so, what else did they alter in the video?!
still dreaming??? come on SONY wont make the same mistake that happens with the psp!
Sony did not only made one mistake they made a lot of them ! Its to complex to avoid every mistake. And the Ps3 is much more complex than the PSP !
haha while i dont think this is really anything…i reallly hopee that they somehow prove all of us wronggg…so yea do that
Take their site off the list pls. Now they are stooped so low as to try injecting a trojan on unaware visitors. If you know what your doing go check it out yourself.
ps3hax.net bastards indeed try to hijack your browser/pc with a.exe I recently had the joy to experience it, got recognized and blocked by mcafee firewall then… my luck
Hopefully the PS3 gets hacked before this summer.
(No comments on video)
where can i get dis cool hack ? - want to show my friends the blue screen. tnx
I WANT TO BELIEVE !!
i dont know about this video but for people saying that the ps3 will never be hacked your stupid for even sayin that. i remember the same comments when psp was at a standstill for awhile everyone thought that was it and look at it now. there is always a way.
This is NOT a way though.
I wish this site was maintained as well as psp-hacks
This has been proven fake and is a waste of time for all especially me.
Can We Play Copy Blu-Ray Games With This?
Fucking idiot
agreeed
ya u can u fuk tard lol jokin jokin lol, no you cant it just freezes up the ps3
how come da update tat sed “just as expected … fake” is gone??? accident or………………….. ah who cares. eventually there will be somtin real.
why do they have to tell the world about it?? now sony has seen the video and now they will release another FW
Lol.. Sony release a new firmware cause a video shows how the PS3 can be shut off??! lolll. funny shit.
If the video had some actual ‘umph’ behind it we would see a new firmware out before you would have even seen this video.
Well, I guess I’ll post and get everyone pissed at me. I’ve been with the PSP hacking scene since it began (anyone else start with 1.0 firmware?). I’ve been with the xbox modding scene since it began as well. Let me start by saying, you can’t judge by saying a movie. Movies can and will be edited. It doesn’t take much to make a fake.
As far as this movie goes. The part about it being fake, was removed. This is because we still don’t know if it is a fake or not. ELF code would be….interesting to get to run on a PS3. PS3 news posts random comments on every website flaming anything and everything. They modify readme files and change the credits to their website. They hacked into databases and extracted usernames and passwords and used these to obtain, modify, and release the source code for custom firmwares. They constantly “create” news around the PS3 hacking scene. If you want news then visit ps3hax. Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll speculate on the video.
From a coders perspective. What they claim could be a possibility. I don’t know for sure exactly how they are launching their code, but this does look slightly promising. As far as the blank screen goes, that’s what exploits do. Buffer overflows for example overrun the memory buffer, crashing the system and giving you a chance to inject arbitrary data. This hack doesn’t look like a buffer overflow. From what they claim, they are forcing it to load a SELF file. I guess this is a possibility. One could possibly edit an update file to load another file along with it. This COULD get them to run their own code. As far as the black screen though, perhaps they just didn’t finish coding their stuff. Many times when I’m working on something, I do it halfway just to see if it works. They could have been doing this and didn’t initialize the video.
As far as this goes, who really knows. It could be a fake. It could be real. Give them a chance, maybe we’ll see. Look at the Xbox 360’s timing attack. No one thought it would work until a proof of concept was posted in the xboxhackers forums. After this everyone was like, “Wow, this might actually work!!” Thing is, it wasn’t even fully coded, it was a proof of concept, just as this could be.
I understand all of you are hyped up and ready for this to be hacked. Be patient. It WILL be done.
$ony ain’t no fool.. They’ve learned the lesson with the psp. The ps3 IS the hackers worst nightmare
At this point we all need a miracle..
Why is the PS3 a hackers worst nightmare? Nothing is uncrackable, I’m sure a disgruntled sony employee may spill the beans at some point, or we will see a new ps3’s flavoured Dark_Alex appear, regardless the PS3 can and WILL be hacked, thats what they said about the PSP when it came out, and the new PSP motherboard revisions when the arrived AND the slim psp when that arrived. So be patient, sit back, relax and wait for it.
how long is wait?
Memor32, great hack for PS2 - just 3 years too late. I don’t want a PS3 hack 3 years too late.
Look at the Xbox 360. The security architecture is superior to that of the PS3 in my opinion. They managed to find an exploit in unsigned shaders! That in itself is amazing. This was patched before the hack was released, and everyone cried.
The timing attack is the most recent news. Brute forcing the hash to downgrade and extract the CPU key was pretty genius. It just takes some time before people are able to figure out the console and what works/doesn’t work.
Still fake.
Please remove.
best buy is selling a ps3 mod chip to play baq up blu ray discs
Show a link to it then. Then tell us exactly who is your supplier and how much it costs to smoke what ever the hell you’re smoking.
I think Sony puts out fake exploit videos every time there’s some kind of upgrade so that people waiting for homebrew will feel like there’s no point in holding on to the lower firmwares and feel trigger happy about upgrading to try the exploit.
Somewhat doubtful, Sony doesn’t need to put them out, there’s enough idiots out there making fake videos already.
Sony needs only to release the update and advertise and highlights it’s positives - that’ll make people update. In reality I think that’s what gone on; everyone can see there’s very little if any real work or progress shown that indicates that there’s any sort of exploit or hack in the works that could lead to something.
Until there’s a hello world or a proof of concept that legitimately shows something (some exploit or hack or bug) that Sony sees as a threat then we’re only going to get updates as Sony patches up loopholes and adds features / options/ improvements, refinements to the firmware.
some updates had no apparent redeeming value of any kind to the end user. Just…’security patches’. thats Sony fixing something before we can find it.
http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/About/SystemUpdate/history.html#update170
“No apparent.” Only if you want to have the experience you currently have if you’re up to date. Bug fixes, and improvements and of course behind the scenes there are no doubt some bug and hole / potential exploit patching.
Look at the page and take away everything that the updates say and think whether you would want to update or still be clinging to an older version waiting for some hack or exploit which to this day we have seem anything even close.
This is all fake and shit
i dont know about the rest of you, but this is where these kinds of things start, give it time and hello world may just be saying “hello world” sooner than you think
so its sooner or I have to give it time? I don’t understand which one.. is it going to require me to wait or will it be soon?
the idea is, you expect it to take a long time, and when it comes, it always seems sooner. thats not the point though, you getting hung up on an irrelivent issue. the idea in a a nut shell is to be patient and not think about it. time goes faster when your not paying attention.
But i saw never that video are posted before it get hacked never see a ps1 video or something they just came out and the people are lucky but FUCK OFF VIDEO POSTING SHIT SITES
yea u never saw a ps1 video cause back then watching videos on the internet wasint easy
some one please hack ps3 so we can play some games…..:)
this is real, its written in alot of web sites
Theres pretty much only one wa to run unsigned code and that would be through the yellowdog OS.
the only way for now to run ISO’s is by Disk swap method works , but requires opening and can MAJOURLY mess up da blu-ray drive.
HA!! YOU THIS IS ALL FAKE!! they write in ps3hax forum that they cant work anymore without SDK modafokas!
that video is old, and its already been proven fake, or at least the “hack” is not worth a pot to pis in. (hack was discovered in the summer of 07)
Ok, let me break it down for you all:
1) This has not been proven fake by anyone.
2) Running your own code on any machine can crash it and hence the black/blue screen.
3) Writing your own code, even very simple code which only shows something on screen can be a lengthy process, especially on the ps3 which we know very little about.
4) Team ICE have a good reputation and StreetskaterFu has been around the PS3 hacking scene for a while now, he has been a member of ps3hax for a long time. I dont see any reason for them to destroy their reputation.
5) The Legitimacy of this has been confirmed by Mathieulh. I dont quite know who he is but still.
6) It uses RFOM which was launched with the PS3 so its first generation game and may contain exploits.
7) And finally, Team ICE and StreetskaterFU should be given the benifit of the doubt, at least they are trying, even if this doesn’t lead to anything useful, give them a break. All you couch potatoes swearing and yelling at each other should just take it easy and calm down. The PS3 will get hacked, cracked or whatever you want to call it, just give people the time and support they deserve.
Thank you for reading this very long post.
Richbadman
Now would be a good time to think twice about updating to new firmwares.
