Details on PS3 Blu-ray to PSP Transfer

Posted by greg on January 10, 2008

Details concerning Blu-ray PS3 to PSP emerge from Sony’s booth at CES 2008. Unfortunately there are no videos demonstrating the process (yet); however, some pictures and details have been released:

Godzilla Blu-ray PSP Transfer
  • the PSP transfer or transcoded version of the film is encoded using H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
  • certain Blu-ray 2.0 discs, on the disc itself, may include the lower-resolution version; that’s the one ready for transfer
  • copies from PS3 to PSP over USB

So I’m wondering, you think Wi-Fi speed limitations create difficulty for Remote Play playback, or what’s the deal? There is no mention whether or not that will be possible. Also — on-the-fly transcoding using our current Blu-ray discs — that’s unlikely, by the sounds of it.

lmao….omg are you serious??? i just rented that and didnt even think to look for that. what size is it on the memory stick? when i convert vids sometimes I can bring it down to about 130mb and still keep it watchable. i like doing that so i can have a bunch of movies on my memory stick while im at work.

Hmmmmmmmmm me smells DRM and lots of it. Think Apple have a similar plan for DVDs with MPEG4 on em. Wonder how cross compatibility will work.

People will still rip movies tho and download them so i dont see it impacting on Piracy.

Also im not surprised if we see “time limits” “RipLimits” etc in the DRM.

Think it will be cool tho depending on how long it takes. Cant help wondering who has a nice blu ray set up and watches downscaled films on PSP???

Also while on the subject, why not just give the PSP DIVX like PS3 or at least let it Remote Play DIVX movies from PS3 and transcode on the fly.

Just to expand on “RipLimits” PS3 may need internet connection to authorise the rip and then one rip per Blu Ray Disc serial number or something.

you could proxie the request to a custom server that always grants the copy/rip request.
