Finally some news concerning in-game XMB access… It’s confirmed for 2008, but when in 2008? No clue…
Sony’s gaming division might have a small showing at this year’s CES, but that isn’t keep Paul Purdy from dropping some big PS3 news: in-game Xross Media Bar (XMB) access is confirmed for 2008. When pressed for a specific timeframe, the Sony rep simply relayed that Sony’s focus at CES is on hardware.
For those not aware, the PS3’s operating system is unavailable while in games. This prevents the use of custom soundtracks or messenging while a game is active, and since the Xbox 360 offers its users both while in-game, PS3 owners have been justifiably frustrated.

Sony is only behind on the software, which isn’t too surprising since Microsoft is a software company to begin with. It is much easier to write games for XBOX (/aka same as Windows pretty much) compare to PS3 (that same old hard console programming)

New PS3? fuck that. Thats definately a rumor their not changing a thing after they spent so much money making this one. The only thing theyre going to keep changing is the harddrives. And Blu Ray is going to die out Blu ray movies go for 17 bucks in my area now and theyre new movies too. Ps3 is going to go on for another 10 years before ps4 comes out. But i heard micro is releasing a new 360 with a HD drive so itll output up to 1080p too. Blu Ray is in tough competition with 360 and the Wii can kiss my hairy ass it sux balls and its pure crap. the ps3 software isn’t that much like the psp’s, fortunatley the OS is the same, it will take much time to finally crack this OS, people are forgetting that it is built around a system with the same specs as a PC, it’s not an easy thing to do.

I would trade future in-game XMB for in-game sleep mode on the PS3. I work a job and have to actually leave before playing an entire sports game. This is never a problem on the PSP, and in my mind, a feature that the PSP has had since version 1.50 (probably since 1.00, but I wouldn’t know) is something we should have on the PS3. I consider that the main feature I would like to see, even more than in-game XMB. The ability to finish what I start is more important than custom soundtracks in my opinion. I know, blasphemy, right?
Na, I agree with you. In-game XMB access is nice and all, but I really don’t see any use for it, personally.
I can’t play games without their original sounds, unless I’ve played it and beat, a lot of times. I’d prefer a Suspend/Sleep Mode over XMB access. I’m sure it’s more than possible too. I wouldn’t expect to see it any time soon though, if at all.
I didnt know you can play your own tracks in xbox 360 games.. Cant wait to try it out. ill be playing my guitar hero tracks while playing halo 3. But I hope they do make xmb possible for ps3. I wouldnt mind listening to anime songs while playing metal gear solid 4 hahah! just kidding ill play rock music

The XBOX 360 is pretty much maxed out both in graphics and data storage (optical media). All the talk about it becoming Blu-Ray compadable may in fact be true, but only movie wise, besides its an addon like the HD-DVD drive is. The PS3 has not created a game that fills a Blu-Ray, and do not forget, there is now a 2nd generation 50 gig disc which will offer even more space in the future.
Hardware wise, the PS3 is also superior in specs and reliablity. Microsoft may be able to fix the hardware failure glitches, but its not upgradable, which means Microsoft will now level off graphics wise, while the PS3 starts using 5, 6 and 7 cores, creating games that will even make Uncharted look like last generation. I see a long future with the PS3, and a glorious Full HD experience with over 90% of future games. Honestly, I am satisified if the PS3 does not become hacked, i agree expensive, but the price paid will be worth the glorious gaming experience.

Yeah, Im no hater of any of the new consoles out. I had an 360, Wii, loved it. But since I bought a PS3, I’ve been on it like crazy. So IF the PS3 gets hacked, it would be totally awesome. This may sound a little weird but hacking the PS3 would help Sony out big time.
Why? With all the badass shit that comes along with the PS3, what would make it better than having ALSO an XBOX 360 emulator. 360 is already easy shit to hack, and so the fuck what if you cant go online with a softmod. It would make alot more people buy a PS3 since you can play both. The fucking controllers for both systems have the same amount of buttons. (minus sixaxis on xbox)
And I saw someone mention the only thing hardware thats gonna more often is the Hard Drive for the PS3. True, but that’ll just hold more HD DVD games from the 360.
