Homebrew developers and PS3 hackers who own the InFeCtuS modchip may find interest in mainman’s PS3 NAND Dump Extractor tool. Or for those without InFeCtuS and still have the desire to experiment, you can find the already-dumped NAND dumps online.
This tool is used to interleave, then byteswaps both dumps of the PS3 NAND. Upon completion, it creates a ‘user readable’ file.
This file is then scanned by the tool, and the flash files are extracted to a folder. This folder is named PS3Nand-XXX.XXXX, where XXX.XXXX is the SDK Version magic in the flash (usually the version number of the firmware)
.B .A usually works, however in some cases .A .B order is required. The tool was made by mainman, assisted by the PS3News.com Developers!
The resulting files are used for analysis & experimental purposes only; hopefully opening the PS3 up to much more. Not a bad way to start off the year.

Thanks Fadil
Oh this is great finally we have chance to make modified firmware
Any chance of a download link of the firmware dumped itself, not for me but surley for the homebrewers out there who have not got the modchip that would find looking at the code useful.
Well this is a good way to start off the year. On the right track. Dump the firmware and examine it and start to break it apart. Next thing from this will be if you can make your own custom firmware / modified firmware, and flashing it. That’s still many more hours worth of time to get going but hey this is a start.
Looks promising to at least see something on the horizon for 2008.
uh…..(i have nothin to say)……OMG FUCK YOU BITCH!
Thats great!! Hoepfully thats one step closer to homebrew and hopefully custom firmware.
Ehi why thx fadil… I have sended the email to you
still taking news from falid? after that jerkoff fucking stole code and claimed it as his own?
Look guys as i said it was a mistake.I am not a coder nor a faker, i o nly give news so please don’t say that 2 me
eh, whatever. just dont do it again
Is it possitief or negatief ? and when can we expeect some greats?
what does this mean?
i mean.. is there something that we can downgrade ow ps3 ? like psp
This is exactly what ‘he’ means… decryption of the PSP firmware is what started the whole homebrew coding for programs…albeit later firmwares (2.10) is probley much harder to write code for since the days of 1.01. The lower the firmware, the better the chance, at least at first. With a reliable decryptor… some people who may have created firmwares for psp may swap to PS3… i expect something usable within a month, albeit not great. Mabye full-scale homebrew on select firmwares by the end of the year.
Well the first step is getting to look at the firmware and finding some loopholes or exploits so at the minimum we can hope for that. Of course we would need some sort of flasher and custom firmware or modification or homebrew enabler afterwards for the long run.
I think the trick is really in making dumps of every firmware thats been released and comparing the changes in code, while mostly ignoring the changes with purposes that are obviously useful such as video format compatibility, in game xmb, etc…and just focusing on the changes that seem to have no apparent purpose or function that would be useful or visible to the end user. these would most likely be the ’security patches’ set in place during every update. try flagging these points in the code and then backtracking to the older firmware and focusing on finding exploits in those areas. after all, they must have been patched for a reason right? I’m thinking Sony had a team of programmers/hackers working around the clock to find exploits and would preemptively patch them before anyone else could discover them, while 99% of PS3 users happily upgraded the whole time. The mistakes are all there. Now’s the chance to find them.
wait. modchip?
i’m guessing it does next to nothing at this point, but i’d never heard of a ps3 modchip before. i’ll hafta check it out…
I’m russia idiot.
Can u tell me how this works?? And need we this programm? or not? =)
you zont dooo anytring, zee program goes in thee core of zeee ps3 and uze just put thee emulator in zeee game foldarrr, and youu playeddd.
retardz
NAND means what? It would be nice if when posting information you don’t use abbreviations.
Nationalists

Nipples and
Dookie
hahahaahahahaahahaahahahaahahahaahahahahaahahahahahaahahahhaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NAND is a type of memory chip. It’s commonly used in USB Flash/Pen Drives, Digital Camera’s, and MP3 players.
It’s a type of EEPROM that erases in large blocks, rather than per-byte. Cartridge games, though not all of them, make use of this type of memory for game saves as it’s quicker to erase/write a whole block rather than bytes.
An example of a type of NAND chip is what you find inside the memory sticks for PSPs, these are a Flash NAND chip. They are non-volatile, meaning they do not need power to retain information stored on them, which makes them very versatile for memory storage.
well thank you Dr Science!
Dr. Science? No, just read alot of junk..
can i still call you Dr Science anyway?
I love you Dr Science….
meow
Makes me sound geeky >_>;
geeks are sexy…you can pounce on my mangina anytime btw…just puttin that out there guy…..meeeeeow
you make me happy in teh pants
I didn’t make the last reply -.-;
PS: I dont like mangina
omg this is so damn funny…..i love it when people come on here and use anonymous names and then feel they have a reputation to uphold…
apparently it was extremely important for “Someone” to let everyone on here know that he is not in fact GAY….
SOMEONE IS NOT GAY!!!!
ATTENTION ALL PS3-HACKS PEOPLE…..’SOMEONE’ is NOT a HOMOSEXUAL!!!!
‘SOMEONE’ does NOT in fact like ‘MANGINA”
thanks for clearing that up buddy! though i should let you know that when it comes to little boys all bets are off!!
I am a member of NANDBLA
PWNED! lawlz
Ok, I’ll use my normal name then, is that better?
Secondly, I have no reputation to uphold. I just find it immature the way some people post, and thus, reply to clear something up. *shrug* If you want to take it as such, feel free to. That’s your choice, you’re only degrading yourself. And finally, you said about anonymous names, yet, you use ‘lmao’ as your own and attempt to be funny. Contradicting, aren’t we?
Anyways, have fun playing with yourself. I have no need to talk or argue to morons anymore this year. *sigh*
heh, you would encourage me to play with myself you NANDBLA perv hahhahahah
Nand is Nand.. its where the firmware is stored. not an abreviation.
I found it very informative, I think there is plenty of info there. Just needed mention that it may lead to CFW (custom firmware). If you don’t understand what it means, either google what you don’t understand, or wait, we will see something interesting soon…
i think there will be CFW before modchip although there was chip for psp first!
There already is a modchip for the PS3, but it’s a universal chip called Infectus, works for the PS3, 360, and Wii and I’m pretty sure XBOX [original] support
nice shice … verry good stuff :-)
If you guys would read the posts in the forum too……..
This would be released before new year.
And Squidman are right it seems Infectus would be the only one who can do the job for us @ the beginning.
THANK YOU JESUS… some good news on this website instead of FIRMWARE UPDATES and robot playing guitar hero
Great news in quite a while, keep up the good work, finally something to start the happy new year!!!
arg crap , and say that i updated to the lastest patch just to play online game (war hawk)
this is great news, since I don’t own any ps3 games, and don’t plan on buying any,cfw here we come!
lmao, robot playing guitar hero
you know what i think, when the custom fw comes out and everybody is making homebrew / being able to play back up via storage devices like external hdd’s, then the Ps3 sales will have a major boost.
there may be a boost in ps3 sales, however game sales could drop, developers may not want to develop for the system and sony will be loosing too much money. The ps3 relys on game and accessory sales.
though they may take the M$ initiative and ban consoles from the psn, meaning people go out and buy a new ps3 thus having 2 one for backups and one for online.
yeah right, if sony was smart thay could pay off the software companys with all that dough thay would make with there console sales.. come on 500 bux a pop.. if you own something dont you have the right to do what ever you want with it?? i mean if i buy a car shouldent i have the right to put rims or a new paint job or a new motor.. or a house shouldent i have the right to modify my kitchen bathroom ect…. anything in the rest of the world can be modifyed but the ps3 i dont get it.. i mean its good to buy games but its also good to backup if that copy of the game gos bad then what? im screwed out of 60 bux.. i dont know i mite be wrong but… i see it like that.
Not necessarily. There are plenty of regulations you have to follow to keep the things you own legal. Your car has to meet emission limits. Your house has to follow building codes. Electronics have classes they have to follow rules to stay in. If you mod your PS3, you open a world of piracy and Sony will start to lose money. I’m pretty positive you wont pay nearly $600 for a blu-ray reader/burner to back-up your games and I figure you would D/l them illegally but if you think about it, you aren’t going to want to waste time D/l a BD back-up of a game either. It’s just not worth it.
While all you stated is true, their is one thing that you have forgotten.
With piracy openly available, console sales rise because you don’t have to buy games (if you so choose). Though, I don’t condone pirating games unless you truely hate a company, and they seem to have come up with one good idea.
If consoles keep selling because you can pirate games, Sony won’t be the one hurting, the game developers will be, which causes shitty games to be produced, which is why I don’t condone pirating things from companies you trust for pleasurable experiences, like for me, that would be Square and Bandai.
But all all in all, it’s a win-lose. While some people who pirate games, pirate them just for backups, their is 2 or 3 people for every one person like that, that just downloads to play and doesn’t care.
Some people download just for keeps, some people download just for backups of their original copies. Which is why downloading games is such a gray area that companies are slowly merging their media into. Take for example Sony’s “Playstation Network” where you can download PSX games. There, you can get backups, ofcourse for only certain older games, but they are backups, and, they are specially encrypted. This is a flaw and an upside. Companies are slowly merging to this medium because it’s obviously an effiecient way to get games and other media. It’s the whole piracy thing that is holding the companies back from releasing brand new games, and not just demos, over the net, because crackers take the code, crack it, and inject it into their own images and produce a “signed” iso that allows playback as if it was a regular downloaded game. Of course this isn’t always the case, but it’s true that this makes it a grey area on the medium.
It’s rather confusing really, but understandable as well.
why is it understandable?
because i said so, so nyah! :-P
Hey, if you can play backups its doesn’t mean they will start bans. Just look at the wii. they are doing fine even though you can install a modchip, play backups, and go online still!
well I don’t care about psn,I want backups(iso)! can’t wait till the cfw comes out n ppl are
right,ps3 sales will go up,but game sales will go down.I don’t care anyway. We’ll still get games no matter how lackluster ps3 game sales are, look at the psp it’s hacked
n great games come out regularly.Even though the game sales aren’t great.
I’m sure Sony makes more in sales per PSP than they do PS3. But you’d have to check, I’m not positive.
You also wont continue to get good games for your PS3 if developers decide it’s a waste of money. They will just stop making them and you’ll be SOL.
WOOHOO! great ps3 news NAND dumper released, bring on the custom firmware and iso loader !!
yeah. i agree with not pirating but sony has been doing just fine with people doing it…not all pirate..and the ones that are legit buying games are the one whos paying the price.. what if i scrach my cd and it dosent play anymore, then i lost 60 bucks…while i could of prevented from keeping the original as a collectible. i dont know. dot get me wrong but.. im all for backups… doing it the right way i mean… if you own it then you back it up isent illegal.
lol you cant use a dump to anything because all the code is encrypted and the only way to decrypt it is to find a way to run unsigned code on the ps3..
run a hello world
CAN WE PLAY COPY GAMES????
No not yet, go buy your games
