Another tip from loyal reader Fadil; here’s what he had to say:
A Voice Changer feature has been added to the Voice and Video Chat menu. If you want more information visit eu.playstation.com and consult the “Voice guide included in the “Help and Technical Assistance for PS3″ section.
This feature allows you to change the tone of the sound originated by audio devices, like microphones. It has 5 preset levels and a bass and (what’s the opposite of bass?) scale.
You can alter the tone while using the Voice and Video chat options available in “Friends”
Other 2.10 stuff
Music
- Now you can select the options [Type 3] in Settings > Music Settings > Bitmapping. This bitmapping process has been designed exclusively for the PS3 with the goal of improving the audio reproduction.
Video
- DivX y VC-1 WMV are now compatible.
- The system is now compatible with the Profile 1.1 Blu-ray Disc.
- A [BD data tool] option has been added.
- To play VC-1 (WMV) files you will need to select the option [Activate WMA reproduction], available in the Settings > System Settings
- It’s not possible to play copyrighted files or files compressed with DivX 3.11
- It’s not possible to play files bigger then 2GB
- Now you have several additional features, like the simultaneous reproduction of the videos in the Blu-ray Disc compatible with the 1.1 Profile. The available features vary depending on the disc.
- Stores the management data used by the Blu-ray Disc.

Just to let people know, don’t get to hung up on this, because all links to the official page where the news initially came from are dead, so this could simply be a slip up, although looking at the additions, I to am very hopefull of this update.
I do believe the opposite of Bass is treble but im not sure. YAH DivX i can play most of my vids now!!!!

yeah i knew it was flat and sharp in the picture but usually the developers just put thos signs in and it actually affects the bass and treble not how flat or sharp the sound is.
Looking at the features, there are alot of anti-piracy features, like not being able to play certain converted files, and files of large sizes :S, hopefully you will be able to stream them, and not only be able to play the files directly off the system.

AVI a full movie in DivX is about 600 Mb
when your dl’ing of torrents for a high def movie, like a movie in 1080i or 720p theres no way thats its goin down to 600 Mb or so.

Couldnt get videos on my maxtor media server to work except my music vids.
Tested my collection of tv stuff on dvd which most work on divx and i test with hd content which only 3 worked these are

don’t count on it, DAX’s former retirement was partly because of sony menacing PS3 hackers (i think)
why dont you just put your movies on dvd-r or blu-ray (if you have a blu-ray writer) you can enjoy like.. 5 films on dvd-r and 50 films on blu-ray, without copying to ps3.. thats what i do.. and it works fine for me.. ^_^

The Divx support is pretty weak IMO, only half of my videos have worked. get corrupted data for a perfectly good download.
Loto, this is becouse its not a clean divx movie, it might need some special sound codec or video codec, its tons of .avi movies that need different codecs.
Yo simply re-encode your files to work is a simply task.
re-encode isn’t simple task, and learn how to spell before you try to pretend you know what you are talking about. Re-encode most likely cost you six plus hours and you get a file that play alright, but most likely sound and video is desync, don’t believe me? lol go try it! remember to come back in six hours and lie about how it “WORKED”, sure i’ll believe u.

heh, i didn’t figure divx support would be worth it. i know that most avi divx files i have require various codecs and such. and just installing divx doersn’t do it on a fresh pc, you have to go download one of those codec mega packs.
so yeah, i’ll try it out, but i’m not holding my breath for much.

Sony’s Divx support isn’t even up to the cheapest Divx players on the market. Go buy a $50 divx player, it wil do much better than the Sony.

A way to obtain 2D harware acceleration in Linux running on PS3 (debian, fedora7, ubuntu) has been found and is spreading.
But be aware it works only with firmware < 2.10
so can you play divx videos on the internet browser or can you only download and play

Nice to have DIVX support. Too bad the cd’s i’ve tried dont work! I have about 300 movies burned to cd in DIVX format. My LITEON VCD/SVCD/DVD/DIVX plays them fine. I really dont want to re-encode 300 movies :(. guess i will wait…….p.s. still waiting for the almighty hacking community to come up with something good. Like 3D hardware acceleration in linux! I’ve always been able to stream movies & videos from my PC to my Ps3 via Tversity Media Server. I’ve come across an issue ever since i updated to version 2.10. My movies & videos now only play for about 1/4 of the total time and they pause on their own out of nowhere just freeze on the pause screen, not allowing me to do anything. My settings are still the same on my PC and I havn’t touched any settings on the Ps3.. If any1 came across this issue and found a fix please let me know…
