Comments (28)Numerous emails we’ve received detail an interesting feature that goes unmentioned with PSP firmware 3.80 and PS3 firmware 2.10. Those owning both devices running said firmwares may take advantage of a new Remote Play feature — PSOne games!
Now you have the option to save precious storage space on your memory stick by playing all your favourite PSOne games over Remote Play. This apparently works with PSOne titles downloaded via the online PlayStation Store or using the original disc.
Thanks to everyone who emailed us.
Comments (25)Update: I’ve added the 2.10 firmware update for download. See below.
Update: This just in… Some comments below caught my attention, and I’m happy to confirm 2.10 is out! Grab it via Network Update. Downloading now…
Update: The emails continue pouring in… We now have a picture of the 2.10 voice changer in action. Thanks to Mentality.

Another tip from loyal reader Fadil; here’s what he had to say:
A Voice Changer feature has been added to the Voice and Video Chat menu. If you want more information visit eu.playstation.com and consult the “Voice guide included in the “Help and Technical Assistance for PS3″ section.
This feature allows you to change the tone of the sound originated by audio devices, like microphones. It has 5 preset levels and a bass and (what’s the opposite of bass?) scale.
You can alter the tone while using the Voice and Video chat options available in “Friends”
Other 2.10 stuff
Music
- Now you can select the options [Type 3] in Settings > Music Settings > Bitmapping. This bitmapping process has been designed exclusively for the PS3 with the goal of improving the audio reproduction.
Video
- DivX y VC-1 WMV are now compatible.
- The system is now compatible with the Profile 1.1 Blu-ray Disc.
- A [BD data tool] option has been added.
- To play VC-1 (WMV) files you will need to select the option [Activate WMA reproduction], available in the Settings > System Settings
- It’s not possible to play copyrighted files or files compressed with DivX 3.11
- It’s not possible to play files bigger then 2GB
- Now you have several additional features, like the simultaneous reproduction of the videos in the Blu-ray Disc compatible with the 1.1 Profile. The available features vary depending on the disc.
- Stores the management data used by the Blu-ray Disc.
Woo! DiVX support!

Comments (93)Tipster of the day, Fadil, enlightened me of this little news tidbit… He goes on to say, “a supposed hidden message contained within the PS3 firmware v2.01 update indicates that the DualShock 3 will be available to purchase across North America from early 2008.”
And Engadget confirms:
…an asterisked notation for “Vibration Function” says that the DualShock3 will be “Available for purchase in early 2008.”
I guess they got the whole motion sensor and vibration thing figured out. Whether or not that was even the reason for excluding rumble from the getgo, who knows… Whatever the excuse — it’s coming!

Comments (42)A few days old now, but still makes for an interesting read… Basically boy genius, Nick Breese — some head honcho at Auckland-based Security-assessment.com — has discovered one bad ass way to crack passwords even faster using a PS3… Follow the source link; if you have yet to see this.

Comments (49)Over at ps2dev.org there is an ongoing discussion thread detailing how to access and utilize the PS3’s GPU under Linux. In order to take advantage of this you’ll require Linux skills and familiarity with patching & recompiling kernels. Though not overly difficult, here is a video demonstration:
Details on obtaining the patches, and patching the Linux kernel, can be found at the source link.

Comments (30)We’ve witnessed countless wig-splitting PSP hardware mods from the talented crew over at Acidmods. Now look… You’ve never played Guitar Hero like this before… CyberPryot has equipped his guitar with an LCD screen and magnetic strummer. It’s so dope you’ll be tempted to smash the guitar after your set — just like a real rock star.
This mod could actually work on any console — the 360 or PS3.
CyberPryot quotes…
Comments (18)Ok where do I begin.. I wanted a guitar with a LCD so you can see the chords pass by your hand as you are playing so what I did was take a 7″ LCD and place it into the guitar. Well now I needed some way to get the video from the PS3 to the guitar and the big tv at the same time. So the solution to this was to take a video controller board and hack into pieces to fit it inside the guitar.
Seeing as that was not enough and because the LCD took up the space where the strumer resided and there was no way to strum the guitar I decided to add a magnetic switch under the body to allow me to play the guitar with a magnetic pic.
