…We know you like to hear about updates a few days in advance, so here’s a quick heads up that we have a new System Software update in the works.
Firmware v2.01 is a minor update that will improve the stability of PLAYSTATION 3.
We’ll provide more specifics as the update is about to go live, but we thought we’d give loyal blog readers advance notice!
Sheesh… Will the PS3 ever get hacked, or will Sony keep pumpin’ out firmware updates like it ain’t no thang?

Comments (65)Update: Grab version 1.3 to get these latest features:
Update: v1.2 is out. It fixes an issue which prevented the creation of partial themes. As well v1.2 adds a new preview type. Enjoy!
sbcroix, from our forums, has released a GUI front end which works in conjunction with Sony’s custom theme creator.
“PS3 Theme Builder” runs on Windows (requires the .NET 2.0 Framework) automatically generating the XML & p3t files based on the given input. Build your own themes, modify existing ones, preview, and compile. All from a simple-to-use interface.

To install simply drop PS3ThemeManager.exe into the root of the p3tcompiler_v101 folder. When the software is first ran it will create a directory called Themes.
The Themes folder is the only place that the software can build themes in. Do not move this folder. Do not attempt to edit themes that do not reside in this folder.
v1.1 updates:

Comments (50)Still no hacks, but good news nonetheless! According to these guys (see source), Sony’s PS3 console will be receiving DivX support in a forthcoming system software update.
DivX today announced that the company will deliver DivX video technology to Sony’s PlayStation 3. To date, over 100 million DivX Certified products have been shipped into the market, and the company expects this number to rise significantly with the new PS3 addition.

Comments (19)Update: Here is a video demonstrating firmware 2.00…
Update: Sadly you cannot create custom playlists with tracks residing on a networked drive or media server. Only tunes on the PS3’s hard disk can be added. Man oh man…
Update: Friend chat rooms have received a complete overhaul. They’re much sexier with a couple new options. But again, nothing overly impressive.
Update: At first glance, I ain’t too impressed. Still no in game access to the XMB… Extremely disappointed I cannot enjoy my own tunes while kicking ass in WarHawk. I notice a few visual enhancements, nothing spectacular. Information bar is annoying, fortunately it can be disabled. Themes — saw it all before on the PSP. Remote Start is the coolest addition. Weak.

It’s out! Grab it via System/Network Update on your PS3 console!
I’m in the midst of updating right now.
Stay tuned for more.
