Man oh man… Still no worthwhile hacks, just more firmware updates. PS3 firmware 1.94 is soon to be released, and according to the countless emails we’ve received, it incorporates the rumble effect for Sony’s upcoming DualShock3 controllers. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is the first title to utilize this [old] feature. Stay tuned for more firmware related details.

i believe the Sixaxis controllers can be modified in a similar way to the Pandora Battery, and Sony is addressing that with a security patch hidden in this update.

well the Sixaxis controllers should have the same type of rechargable batteries in them. Sony made a back door for their programmers in the PSP batteries, which was not discovered until after the PS3 was released, so it stands to reason that it is very possible there may be similar features hidden somewhere in the Sixaxis, that they would obviously be attempting to patch as ’security updates’. if you look back to the time when the Pandora battery trick was made public, and compare it with the release dates of new PS3 firmware downloads, I’ll bet there was one made available fairly quickly after Pandora came out. The real trick is in finding people who can figure out how to reprogram their Sixaxis controllers for hidden Pandora type functionality, who also happen to have access to PS3’s running whatever firmware was current right before Pandora came out.
If you buy one of those ps2 to usb converters off ebay that allow you to use your playstation 2 pads on your pc, shouldn’t that work just as fine on the PS3 saving us a whole load of cash?

Confirmed, I got one of those and it works fine, although in some games it does come up and ask you for the PS3 SixAxis controller.

I wasn’t surprised when I found out PS3 would have sixaxis, but I was surprised when I found out they wouldn’t be using rumble. Wii uses both just fine. Now they are finally bringing it back.
If it were up to me, there would be no rumble or sixaxis (Lair). Cheaper/lighter controllers for me.
Yeah, but the wii controller is using completly other way to get the motion sensors… it’s using positioning of both parts of the controller, so it can check like: how far the second part is, what direction is it etc. Sixaxis is using gyroscopes…
Basically what ragtas is saying is that the PS3 controller uses internal components to detect motion, whereas the Wii’s controller locates itself by relating itself to the location of the strip. It’s kind of like a light gun.
If you get the Ratchet and Clank game, it comes with the 1.94 update. So this update may not be for everyone if they dont buy a game or use a game that uses the Rumble. This may also work with Motor Storm, although not tested.

I tried getting Ratcher and Clank, and I used the RFOM swap trick, the TIFF exploit, and the opened bru ray drive swap trick, and none of them worked. Closest I got was that it tried to boot and the screen went black, then it froze. I am on Jap FW 1.02

At 1.93, the update exploit bypass won’t work… NO sense in sitting at 1.50 fatasizing about a hack.. if one comes it will have to support latest firmware for HOME and for online play, or I don’t really care.

im not updating. i rented the game and lost interest after the update bullshit and took it back for another one immediately. if Sony makes enough new and interesting games, I will just buy a second PS3 for updating before i even CONSIDER an update.

Having read thru all of these comments on this thread, I can only come to the conclusion that “most” “not all” of the people posting on here “MUST” be between the ages of 4 and 11, its incredibly childish and full of mindless crap.
I have v1.93 on my PS3 currently, I’ve pre-ordered Ratchet and if v1.94 is on that disc then I’ll install it, if not, I’ll stay on v1.93 until whenever $ony choose to update the firmware, everyone i think seems to forget that $ony dont owe you anything, you paid your money, you got a PS3, the fact they are doing updates is great, but they dont “OWE” you updates, all I read on sites is childish people going on and on about v2.00 and how they want this and want that feature etc etc, just give it a soddin rest, you’ll/we’ll get what we’re given when and if $ony choose to release future updates.
As for the people staying on v1.50 in hopes of a ISO loader, just update, there are so many reasons why there is no point sitting on v1.50 but the main reason is all the latest software wont run on v1.50 so if a ISO loader appeared then you wouldn’t be using it to play the latest games anyhow, your best hope for anything like that would be something like what Dark_Alex did on the PSP, infact that could really be your only hope coz $ony can firmware patch any xploit that is found, welcome to the firmware war game like on the PSP scene if your into that and can even be bothered, just buy what you wish to play.

I bought Ratchet and Clank on Thursday and it comes with 1.94 on the disc.
I can personally confirm that there is nothing new there. I think it just adds rumble support for a few games like Ratchet and Clank, but you need to buy/import the rumble controller first.
BTW, Ratchet and Clank is THE SHIT! IMO, it’s more fun than Halo 1, 2, and 3, as well as Bioshock. It’s like classic genuine fun. It’s like playing SNES again for a long time fun. It’s just PURE FUN!

if you have this awesome game Ratchet and Clank you can see that it has limited XMB access. if you select delete it will show you the saved data for all PS3 games on your device. Hopefully more xmb access is in the feature.

i dont see what all the fuss is about its firmware, its not going to change much and there is no home in it (regardless of what rumors you hear or peoples beliefs). sheesh go play a game :P there is nothing wrong with 1.93, and 1.94 on R&C was ONLY so that it could support the rumble straight out of the box (JPN has this in like a 1-2 weeks).
Because FW2.00 wil include something big like In-Game XMB access and stuff like that. Home does not come in a firmware, but comes as a download. You have to download it as you would download a demo.

People here seem to think that PS3 Firmware 2.00 magically has Home built into it. Home is a separate download like a demo and that has benn pushed back to April. The firmware 2.00 is coming in a couple of weeks, Sony said so themselves and there is a hint that in-game messaging and music are in the update.
Here’s an idea…for those of you that have Linux installed, and own Ratchet & Clank…why not extract the update data from the disc so we can all update to 1.94. There IS a way to do it, Ive made disc images myself, I’m assuming the file system will be similar to the PSP game discs, having an update folder on them.
only problem is you cant veiw the disk on linux anyways(i think). if your so concerened about doing that then why dont you do it?
