A blurry and pretty much incoherent video has been posted which guides you through the steps of converting HD-DVD media to Blu-Ray format. The result is said to be playable on the PlayStation 3 with zero quality loss. Unfortunately we can’t say the same for the video which demonstrates the whole process –

If it is true it’s really nice but don’t you need to buy a hd-dvd player for the pc first. so when you do that you paid the same price as you pay for an hd-dvd player. So than it has not of use..??Right…??
Not at all. You can buy a hd-dvd player for the pc on ebay for around 60 euro. But you still need a blu-ray recorder for this to be of any use. I can’t see any good use for this unless there is a movie thats on hd-dvd thats not on blu-ray.
I’ll just wait for the conversins to show up on torrent sites =D I was kinda upset Dragon’s Lair was HD-DVD only…. Hehe

im thinking of selling my PS3. its an original 1.0 launch from Japan. only upgraded to 1.02 for RFOM.

i think that the ps3 will never be hacked to play backups
I think that it will be hacked eventually but when it does get hacked, it’ll be for a version like 1.50 that nobody has anymore.
Then when it does get hacked they will make a downgrade and an easier way to bypass firmware check. This stuff takes time especially for the ps3.

ok well, i took apart my ps3 for the disc swap thing and its really awesome. i can finally play US games on my Japan unit and this works for backups too. PS1 games wont swap for some reason. The game I’m using as a boot disc might be the reason for that though. Regardless, this is a major victory and I hope it leads to unsigned code being run on the PS3 very soon.

i discovered a way to bypass the upgrade requirement for accessing the internet and the PS store page. It even seems I am able to play online multiplayer on RFOM. However, in order to do this I must sign up for the PS Network. The question is, what happens when one signs up for this network, do they ban my console for being the wrong firmware? I have so far (for that reason) decided to just stick to browsing YouTube and things like that. YouTube videos play surprisingly well actually.
I am on FW 1.02 and I can browse the web. Its not a complicated hack either, like that other web browser IP spoofing trick which gives me a headache to think about even trying.
This may prove to be a very useful hack for those who dont want to upgrade. I’m only worried about Sony nailing it down shut and making it one less option once they are aware of it, so for now I will keep it to myself. But just know, its a pretty damn cool thing I found and it’s 100% real, no bullshit. If any of the devs want in on this secret or Greg wants an email from me with the details, I’ll consider that as an option before anything else.
edit– by ‘in order to do this’, i meant playing RFOM online. signing up for the PS store is not part of the hack

well, the thing i discovered seems like it might be news worthy. i couldnt use the web browser before. it always asked me to update and i never did, so i couldnt use it. But now, I’m still on 1.02 and I’m surfing the web. I also hear that even people on the newer firmwares lose their browser capability if they dont upgrade to the newest firmwares, so if thats true its definitely something people might need.
It wont let me sign up for a PS Network account though, the FW update is needed, or that hack involving the IP spoofing.
