Hermes, who is well known for PS2 homebrew — PS2Reality Mediaplayer & Guitarfun — has released an experimental homebrew loader for the PS3. Currently supporting only the two said homebrews; PSXLoader certainly demonstrates potential. And once the kinks are ironed out, I would imagine it possible to boot other PlayStation 2 homebrew.
To use (I think): you need firmware 1.90 or later and SWAP MAGIC version 3.6 or later.
Also, you need a series of modules, which are copyrighted by Sony, and for that reason, they’re not distributed in this package.

ok so, I have a Japan PS3. do i need Japan Swap Magic discs? and if i get those, can i do anything with US games? and…if i get Japan Swap magic and i cant read Japanese, am I totally fucked?

Maybe the things goes a little faster now. I think making homebrews using the PS3 program language and structure are far too difficult, maybe its a better way to program them under the PS2 language for them to run on the PS3 via the PS2 support hardware. Thats why Sony stop giving suport for retro PS2 games to run under the PS3 via hardware, now PS2 games only run on the PS3 via emulation. Does someone already tested run PS2 ISOs via a PS2 HD-Loader of some sort? Maybe it run.

Here is a little proff of concept for the PS3 hacking scene:
PS3´s PS2 Hardware Modele + PSXLoader + PS2 HD-Loader + External HD (USB) + PS2 ISO = PS2 Full Module = Sony´s Headache.
The hackers on the scene already know this concept, but unfortunately, the majoroty of then have the worst problem that a hacker could have, they are too politic. A hacker must never falls to “politics” like the ones that is being implemented on this actual days, that push back a potential release (push back the release afraid of some Sony heavy lawsuits or this type of things). They wait to release their homebrews or customs only after the scene have grown enough for them to release something without fear of being pursuited.
Fortunately, theres still some real hackers on this days, that doesnt be afraid of anything, like this Hermes, and maybe others, and i believe that they already have a real iso loader of some sort, and maybe some of that “fake video” running iso loaders are for real. As for the “too politic ones”, shame on them.

I am hoping this means that when things are cleaned up some one can use the ps2 hombrew to dump the ps3 filmwere then we can have the new Dark_alex of the ps3

I am new at this PS3 thing and I want to look at movies on my system online. But I am not sure how to do this. My first question is what is a homebrew? And my next question is what what operating system does the PS3 operate off of, this is if I have to download a program the watch movies online.
