Sony delivering a double-whammy with two firmware updates for both the PS3 console and PSP hand held. Firmware 1.90 includes these updates:
- You can now display an image as the background of XMB™ (XrossMediaBar).
- You can now use emoticons when creating messages under [Friends].
- You can now enter text directly into text entry fields of Web pages using a USB keyboard.
- Upsampled output of audio CDs is now supported.
- Settings
- [44.1/88.2/176.4 kHz] has been added as an option in [Audio CD Output Frequency] under [Music Settings].
- [Type 2] has been added as an option in [Bitmapping] under [Music Settings].
- [On] has been added as an option in [BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI)] under [BD/DVD Settings].
- Video
- The [Image Quality Adjustment] option in the control panel has been changed to [AV Settings].
- You can now play AVCHD-format video files that are saved on Memory Stick™ media or on the hard disk of a video camera.
- You can now operate the Slow Back (Slow (Back)) and Frame Reverse (Frame Reverse) functions when playing video files saved on storage media or on the hard disk.
- Game
- You can now adjust screen display settings while playing PlayStation® and PlayStation®2 format software.
- You can now sort games that are saved on the hard disk.
- Network
- [Add to Bookmarks] has been added as an option in the [File] menu of the Internet browser.
- Friends
- When an avatar is displayed during a voice / video chat, the avatar now moves in response to audio.
- Overall
- [Eject Disc] has been added in the options menu for discs.
- You can now select [Group Content] when changing a file or folder icon.
I also noticed you’re no longer required to connect the controller via USB when performing the update. Check back for additional details and a download when official word (at the PlayStation website) is made.

that remote play is the same as in 3.52!
Remote Playe works from 3.40 upwards so you can stay one OE if that is where you already are. M33 rocks though :D

Ps3 Firmware 1.9 adds the following features to the Playstation 3 Entertainment system.

- HTML has been added under network allowing users to view HTML documents saved on the PS3 HDD.
- Save HTML has been added as an option in the PS3 web browser. allowing users to save the source of the document to there PS3 HDD.
- Priority can now be set to Background downloading. allowing you to changes the order of when a download is active.

- New Sideshow Option [Effects Show] added.
- Picture Options added [Black&White, Old, Worn, Overexposed] added under the options menu.
- Animated GIF Image support added.
–Music–
- Added Graphic Equalizer added under Music Options menu. all 7.1 channels are configurable independently.

- Keyboard Mapping has been added to the sections Keyboard section of settings. shortcuts such as the disk in drive, or a particular game can be set to a shortcut on the keyboard with a key not currently in use.

great suggestion. hopefully the gif will be alowed. ive got a program that converts moives to gif animation if i so wished so im doing it with the helicopter scene in die hard trailer and then trying it out. ill post back if im succesful
right ive tryed. i can creat a full sized gif image of a 2 minuit movie. with sound if i want. 2 draw backs.
1. a 2 minuit clip is about 10 gigs
2. the ps3 will not play it. so im stumped i pretty much stretched my brain power on that one lol.

I could not agree with you more… I really wish some big titles like that were available at launch, but hey……. October will be the best month for Ps3 sales.. Several big titles are coming out, especially Gta 4.. Also A’s creed comes out that month.. I think more Ps3s will be sold bet. October and January than have been sold from launch day till now….
Umm MGS4 is due out in january, FF’s are probably after christmas, and GTA4 is near halloween so u cant expect any good games yet.
Not certain…but the 1.90 update for the PS3 should contain the BD+ support.
Also the lastest JAVA update should have the BD+ too…just for a hackers headsup…

I’m also still on 1.50, Saying an ISO loader will never happen is quite funny. It’s like saying you will never die, It might take some time but in the end it will happen. LOL
It’s on the frigging forums that an ISO loader is not possible. Details why is in the forums. But a way to play back-up BRD’s are still possible, not ISO.
Supposedly the security is tighter on the ps3 than the psp so u wont seen any cfw hacks or no disc iso loader in this generation so just upgrade like normal people and wait for the good stuff.
So i placed a wallpaper of a family pic and i can barely see the XMB icons. I think if its not a dark background were going to have trouble viewing the icons. This update is below average. They probably are just throwing this out as a bone. Cant wait for the big one though.

I seem to be having a problem. I’ve been trying to get this update online but it keeps telling me that I have the newest update so I don’t need to.
Then i downloaded the update from here and put it on my psp’s memory card so I could transfer it to the PS3 but it keeps telling me i have the new firmware. When I check my system settings it still says I have version 1.82. any ideas?

YOu can already install windows on the Ps3.. It just runs slow because of the lack of RAM… A nice substitute is YDL 4.0.. But if you dont have experience dont bother,,, To much DOS command reliability… If they cant get the Blue-Rays to run, what they should be doing is concentrating on some homebrew.. IMagine Upscaled supernintendo games, as well as some MAME classics…….
pointless to install linux on ps3 – it is way to slow to be useful for anything.
The one nice thing about this update is to play mp3’s and surf the web at the same time. Also videos play in the background while using the xmb. Kind of wierd watching a movie in the background though. Also cool to play mp3’s while doing a picture slideshow. Where are the damn wallpapers. Someone just copy some PSP wallpapers and upload them here for download :)

linux on ps3 is shit. pointless to load it as it runs so slow because of the restrictions sony have put on it, and also lack of ram.
I’m no way against homebrew and “running backed up copies” of our games from various memory sources but I must say that sony really have knocked this one on the chin. No way are they gonna make the same PSP mistake agin. This is why there releasing a new PSP. I guarantee you that the new PSP will be virtually un-hackable too coz game manufactures are loosing faith in PSP as their not making enough money on it. My advise: Those of you who don’t own a PSP better buy one now before they take all the old ones off the shelf and you have to totally conform to Sony’s regime.
In the mean time you might as well upgrade your PS3. or if you can afford it, buy another one and put your “pure” ones aside as online gaming is the shizzle. IF someone does find out how to hack one, then you can sell the other.
well if you get an Infectus modchip then you can back up whatever version of Firmware you are on and downgrade back to it at any time. All PS3 firmware is signed to each unit specifically. So really this is the only currently existing way to downgrade. I’m on 1.02, and I will save that as my backup firmware, then upgrade so I can play whatever games I want and enjoy all the Sony perks, and then if someone ever comes up with any good hacks for the lower firmwares I will always be able to go back and try them out.

it is actually a good thing for Sony to stop the hacks belive it or not. game companies will feel ultra-confident that any games they make will only be available to buy and not iso download – so therefore they will pump more resources into making great games on ps3 – we lose free games, but we win amazing games.

Finally Paradox decided to release the PS3 exploit, and guess what, it’s really easy to use! All you need is the PS3 controller and a secret button during PS3 boot which will disable the disc protection. You can load any backup after this!! To enable the exploit press the following buttons at the same time on the PS3 controller after power on; L1, L2, R1, R2, SELECT, START, TRIANGLE, SQUARE, press and hold while rotating both the analog sticks clockwise slowly then tap X distinctively once. It takes a while to get a hang of it, but it is worth the effort. Please note that some buttons might be hard to reach at the same time so get a friend to help or use your feet to aid.”

Paradox PS3 backup loader confirmed

Update on PS3 backups XBM hole, backups boot not run
Some new information has come to light regarding the PS3 XMB hole found which can enable the booting of back-ups. In the earlier video, the author chose to fit the game on a standard DVD-R, however many will actually require a Blu-ray disc. Further, the hacker is using a HDD formatter from the recent SDK leak which wipes the HD and puts the PS3 into a unique mode which can validate the disc. It is worth mentioning that the backup at this stage will merely boot and not RUN.
The method to get PS3 backups booting ONLY
1) Make a directory or use your Memory Card- for example: D:\PS3\OTHEROS
2) Copy the OtherOS.self (Mkfs.self via $DK renamed) to D:\PS3\OTHEROS\otheros.self
3) Put it in your PS3 and navigate to “Install OtherOS” along with confirming your selection by pressing “OK”
4) The PS3 screen will go black, and it will erase the entire HDD (there will likely be a way around this, we’re only using the HDD Formatter SELF at this time)
5) When it’s complete (your PS3 may reboot, don’t worry) place an ORIGINAL PS3 Game Disc in
6) Eject the disc, and place in another ORIGINAL PS3 game disc
7) Eject once more, and place your LEGAL BACK-UP PS3 game disc in the drive
8) Give it a few seconds to read the disc, and it will appear in the XMB
9) Finally, press X and that’s it… it will BOOT up but not RUN the PS3 game back-up

According to a French PS3 site ‘PS3Gen’, a hacker known as Placasoft has found a PS3 exploit which works on firmware v1.80 to v1.81. The exploit is achieved by modifying the code inside a .pkg file. Another member also claims that he has tested this exploit and suceeded in launching code displaying 3 quick blinkining lines then returned to the XMB.

you may be wondering why is it important to generate our param.pfd files?
well the answer to that is that if we could generate our own param.pfd files then we could copy modified game saves to the ps3 and have an exploit!

Im not against hax, what Im against is the damn ISO Loader. It must be col to have some good emulators and all that on PS3.
ISO loaders have their place. I would love to see one. I dont see why people are complaining and worried about it. With the size of the games and hard drives, you could only fit one game on there at a time anyway. Thats good enough to just load the game you want to play and then play it as much as you want without using up your Blu Ray lazer and the drive in general. These lazers have a lifespan you know, much like video projectors do if you’ve ever owned one. I think for a blue lazer, the average lifespan is something like 3000 hours, but I could be mistaken. Regardless of the specifics, it does have a lifespan, and having an ISO loader would be a really great thing. I think Sony should just put it in one of their updates. Maybe they could make it so the ISO becomes encrypted and signed to only work with that specific PS3.
