*Drip… Drip…* Sony has sprung another leak!
According to several anonymous tipsters, the Sony PS3 SDK has also made its way into the hands of the public. The entire SDK comprises 941 directories, 5,551 files and weighs in at an approximate 442MB. Not much else to report on this topic, not yet anyway. Use your own resources to locate the leaked SDK if you want it; due to legality issues and whatnot, we won’t be providing it. Perhaps a free [legal] version will stem from the leak.
So, together — the leaked firmware 1.80 debug build combined with the SDK could and will most likely lead to many great possibilities for us PS3 owners. Things are definitely looking up!

The whole thing is about a dev ps3, not a retail one.

This is a great week, its had my birthday, Paris Hilton in jail, the 1.8 debug leak, and now the PS3 SDK running around the internet. If i didnt have to work tomorrow i would say it would be an almost perfect week

You can always upgrade if you want to, but not doengrade (right now) so you better stay on a low firmware.

you might as well stay at the firmware you have until something concrete is announced. you wouldn’t want to get screwed if you update and they can only hack 1.60 or something.

All I really want is the compatibility to play verity of media files like some MKV or at least Divx/Xvid files

I’m experiencing somethin horrible with my ps3. after fews minutes the top of the screen becomes blur n shakes and I can’t see the upper part, after 30 minutes or so the lower part of the TV starts with the same thing. Is it a problem with my console??? Thanks!!!
You know why all this stuff is getting leaked now? Well remember that sony fired allot of people lately? Somebody, or several individuals are getting back at their former employer.
Although I think it’s great, i can also see the bad side of this, sony loses money on every console only gets money through games. So if we start pirating allot of things the game sale will go down, and we won’t have as much higher ground than the other consoles, if it would have just been the wii and the 360 that were plagued by piracy, the ps3 would obviously have an edge.
I think your right someone is getting back at $ony.
I don’t agree, in fact sony will increase the sales of ps3 consoles do to the increasing demand, of the buyers.
Many people are just waiting for the console to the cracked to buy one, and sony is really interested on selling consoles not games.

So, you’re telling me, if I could buy a 360 and/or Wii and it’s all cracked and free backup games like the PS1/DC/PS2, while the PS3 is unbreakable, the PS3 would sell more?
Personally, if those were the choices, I’d buy a Wii or 360. I mean c’mon, free games? Admittedly, the PS3 would have some exclusives, but just a few. Which wouldn’t out-weigh the $500-600 console cost.
I’m a big fan of Zelda, Resident Evil, and Mario, but you don’t see me going out of my way to buy a GC for like, 4 games.
Pirating is actually one of the incentives to buying a console/system etc.
How many people do you actually think ‘hack’ their consoles to play pirated games compared to people who buy games legit? The percentage is so low it’s not even worth mentioning. It’s just that people make a big deal out of it because it’s stealing. (Not saying that it should go unchecked.)
It’s just that, ‘TOO MUCH’ pirating that makes the sales plummet and actually affect sales. Which is REALLY HARD to do. Even with pirating music, it’s barely making an effect. Just the right amount of ‘pirating’ can actually have a positive effect. *cough* windows *cough*
Pirating games for the PS1 actually helped sales for the console, which made it one of the most popular consoles ever made, and you know it’s true.
As for me, I just use GameFly right now, since I don’t see any games for the PS3 worth buying. Also, most of what I pirate is ‘if it’s not free, I ain’t getting it.’ material.
So, basically, for me anyways, you can either a) let me play a game for free, and maybe in turn you get a fan of the game series. or b) I never play the game since I don’t want to pay for it.
I’m pretty sure a lot of people agree with me on this one.
This stuff being leaked due to the layoffs could be a possibility though.
Great news, I’m hoping for a way to play my pal dvd’s on my PS3 NTSC-J model, hope it will be cracked soon.

well the i dont mind buying games but to have them on the system and play them is way better i also love the emulators because i dont have to have my systems hooked upped to play all the old games which i want to keep in good condition its also nice to have all the nes, snes, sega and so forth to up scale to the hd resolutions because the original consoles were not built that way
i mean just look what they did with the original xbox that is still one of my main systems because of all the emulations on it and when they do this to the ps3 i will sadly retire my xbox to bottom of the shelf
I also dont mind buying games like tekken 6 or GTA or GTHD BUT not the other crap on ps3!!. Also they should of made em region free (for movies) (becuase that what were gonna do now!!) I think $ony deserve EVERYTHING they get!

the “anonymous” person that release the SDK and firmware debug might be $ony itself, just my opinion, they know doing that will increase their sells of consoles because people can play backup games and they can do more things with their consoles through homebrews. the reason why $ony willing to risk this is that there is a chance people will “brick” their ps3, then they will have to buy a new console. in either cases, it’s a win-win situation for $ony

I dont agree w/the whole piracy thing. It wont help sony at all. Y have u all forgotten the Dreamcast, even the PSP isnt doing to well. The DS is infearer to the PSP but it is kicking its a$$. I’m not gonna b like all of u and say “o i only get the legal stuff” c’mon y r u lieing to urself. We all cheat we all lie. How else did we learn of the hacking scene? Anyways, when the PS3 is cracked it will have lost the battle, but i do agree that they will sell more consols. FYI though, Sony isnt making money of the consol, it makes it on the software sells and acessories.

again just another opinion, no mean to offense but give me a reason how sony would “want” to make money on games. If you only sell 1 million consoles, the most you can sell a single title is 1mil units of that game. $60/unit=60mil, will that be enough to feed the game developers that sony for 3 years?(the minimum time to develope a game). Third party developers does not give sony any money for their own games. they do give sony money for the SDK. sony right wants to make exclusive games just because they know someone out there will buy the console for that single game(FF fans insert here for FF13). then the final goal is still to boost their system demand therefore they can sell a system with 600 bucks price tag

He’s right… Sony doesn’t make any money off each console. In fact they lose some. That’s why they are putting so much effort into making its production more efficient.

Im waiting for the Iso loader or a mod chip for the PS3. I don’t have a PS3 yet. I will buy it as soon as i can moded it. How come there is not Modchip for the PS3 yet?. The thing with the wii is that is a console for kids. Not for real Gamers.

i don’t know why your fighting over such stupid sh*t, first of all i can tell you that sony is not doing bad in the market, and even if they were i’m sure they wouldn’t give a rat’s ass about it because other than ps3 they have a HUGE variety of items to profit from , so stfu already. and the sdk can very well be from sony itself, they’re not stupid it can either be that they want to see what developers from the hacking scene can do, most likely their skills, creativity and dedication is more valuable than some old computer nerd on their salary. and if you think about it, if a developer from the hacking scene was to work for sony to develop homebrew apps, and what not it would make sony a bit for favorable, because sony has the money, its not concerned about that, it sales may be low but i can bet u it costs sony less than 1/3 of the currently price to make the damn console. they’re more interested in the fan base their looking for life long consumers for their f
