The “InFeCtuS” crew has successfully downgraded a PS3 running firmware 1.60 to 1.50. The tutorial available on their website details the procedure to read & write the internal NAND flash of the PS3.
To allow infectus to have the controll of the NAND FLASH, the PS3 must be turned on we need to wait the browser screen, after you can connect the USB cable of INFECTUS to PC.
Is very important that you don’t touch nothing in the browser when INFECTUS read and write the NANDs FLASHES… because is possible a corruption of data.
The wires must be connected shortly and not crossed from infectus to PS3.

Evidently it’s not for the faint of heart, and of course you know the risks involved with writing to flash memory. In any case, this is a phenomenal breakthrough for PS3 owners. Good work InFeCtuS!

I wonder if it’s possible to downgrade further below 1.50…because in the video, they selected 1.50.bin, which means that the PC suite does not actually have to flash a specific fw 1.50 on the NAND.

downgrading the ps3 looks so damn hard! im a 360 fan……and a ps3 fan :D so i dont care. the ps3 to me is just a hunk of $600 plastic. i will get one when it drops. did everyone know that wal-mart told sony that if the price doesnt drop, they are taking them out of stock.
I think that was for the PSP, not the PS3.
Thats impressive… Downgrading is one of the key elements for successfull hackability… We might even see custom firmwares someday.. A’la PsP ;)
Excellent work, alot of cables (possibly for development use). If all the cables ARE necessary thats a downside.. would love to see more information.

I’ve updated a while ago to 1.60 because I waned to play MGS 3 (it requires update).
And I was desperate because when the iso loader come, there will be no way to run it. (it will probably require firmware 11.50.) And Now I can safely play all my PS2 titles… :)

It’s not that simple ! The FW of the PS3 is interleaved on 2 Flash-Chips, hence 2 bin files.
You cannot use the dumps of other people. So where you get thos e2 bin files? No, it’s not the PUP-File.
So you only can downgrade, if you already dumped your lower FW with the infectus.
If u haven’t, also the infectus modchip isn’t able to downgrade your FW.
Kinda pointless right now, jesus get on with an ISO loader already sick of hearing of it.

Because the PS3 Firmware is SIGNED.
Specific Hardware-ID’s and so on.
A dump is only usable on the SAME PS3 (on which the dump was made).

hi just wanted to add that if you do brick a psp, or a ps3, why dont u go to wal mart and buy a new psp or ps3, depending on what u screwed up and then go return the brick for cash back? i didnt it a couple times to get new psps.

If anyone here has ever hacked a PSP you would know. The PS3 is pretty much a huge PSP that plays BR. So I believe it will be hacked one day. They already downgraded, which is the first step…
