Looks like we’ve got some changes on the playstation network coming our way soon. Perhaps this is preparation for @Home? We’ll have to wait and find out:
PLAYSTATION®Network upgrade: Tuesday 08 May
Over the next few weeks, some new and exciting changes will take place in the PLAYSTATION®Store. In preparation for this, both PLAYSTATION®Network and PLAYSTATION®Store need to be taken offline for a short while to allow us to carry out the upgrade and maintenance work.
This is scheduled to take place between 16:00 and 19:00 BST (17:00-20:00 CEST) on Tuesday 8th May 2007.
If you are already logged into an online game during this time, you will most likely find that you can continue playing as normal, but you will not be able to log in or start a new game until full service has been restored. You will also not be able to access the Store during this maintenance window.
We are hoping to complete this work in as short a time as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. But remember that these enhancements are paving the way for new and exciting content that we have planned for the Store!

there just gonna make expand the capability on the playstation store..and when the @home becomes available this will be neccesary so they need to update this now..also with a lot of complaints from unsatisfied customers

Sorry it isn’t coming in 3 hours, yes they are probably making Home specific changes to network, but don’t expect to be able to use Home until Autumn unless you were lucky to get beta

Probably just server update from the sounds of it then… getting ready to handle more people in Home is my best guess. Oh well, worse things have happened. At least Sony didn’t hype this as the next best thing, or… at all.
i think i a quote somewhere it says it was just preparing for the next few weeks. so imassuming cool stuff will come up within bout 2 to 3 weeks.maybe the home beta will be public. well i hope. lol. probably not. might bring another update where you cn play music in game

When i went on last night i saw several new game downloads and a new icon which was a PSN icon. It mentioned that there new things coming such as video and game downloads. Dont get your panties are knotted up girls, the PS3 is still in its infancy stage. Their will be some neat things coming, im sure.

i think the updates where just background things to make it easier for the worldwide servers and the level downloads for resistance
The maintanance was for the servers, download speeds are now a lot quicker, obviously this is to do with whats comming in the next few weeks, expect movie and music downloads real soon.
there are fast a 300 mb thing on the ps3 takes less then half an hour
