HanSooloo has shared some interesting results from a preliminary HDD analysis…
- The HDD is encrypted with a (most probably) Sony proprietary format.
- If Linux is setup on the machine, the HDD will contain the relevant ext2 or ext3 partitions, but it will NOT be visible to a regular OS. This is because, the HDD does NOT have a standard partition table. If one uses WinHex to scan the HDD, then the program will find the ext2/ext3/swap partitions at their respective offsets.
- A program has been written to scan blocks of 16bytes for where contiguous data is on the HDD. This program has identified major blocks of data on a freshly formatted 60GB HDD.
- Of major interest is that right around the 380MB marker, we start seeing blocks of 64KB data, and this repeats itself EVERY 183.72MBs. Why does a system need 64KB worth of markers every so often, is a mystery at the moment.
- Each HDD is "individualized" the moment it is formatted on a particular PS3 unit. An individualized HDD CANNOT be used in another PS3 unit due to (in theory) a unit based signature being written to each HDD.
- A project is underway to "individualize" 2 same make and model (Seagate Momentus 60GB 2.5" SATA) HDDs and perform a byte level diff to spot differences in the disk layouts.
- This diff will also be analyzed by the data block scanning program mentioned in Item-3 above.
I wonder… Will the long overdue ISO loader be able to play backed up images off the HDD? Hrm…

nice info hope they crack it soon!
Yessss……the possibilities is there.
Heh encryptions on HDD, interesting. I’ll try to do some scanning of my own now.
Any one else think the existence of an iso loader was a lie? Heard paradox did the same with the psp, and never released the loader they claimed they had.
Even if Paradox was telling the truth, the Iso loader would never be released. All they can do is point their finger and say there is a way. Rest assured there willl be some kind of loader that will exploit xmb crash mounting , firmware tinkering, or just modchip based.
I hope this turns out to be nothing and an iso loader never gets released.. Homebrew is fine but, you iso loaders are illegal
“you iso loaders are illegal”
Get the fuck off the planet you loser.
stop trying to to attention you whinging ass mother fucker.
What about gamers like me who would like to keep their games in their cases as much as possible? I use my modded PS2 to simple play copies of my own games. If that is illegal I’d like you to send your MP3 player into the police.
iso loader, what a waste of time, just buy the game…have fun waiting for the loader and not being able to upgrade your buggy ps3
lick my shit stained ass
good job its people like you whos make it happen thanks a lot for all this guys
Paradox suck, that’s all there is to it. There was/is no iso loader. I don’t believe they even hacked the PSP, and if you read their last nfo they even take a swipe at DAX. Even though they recognized his talent, I think DAX was pissed when Paradox had claimed that they cracked the PSP first.
Once again it proves Paradox fail to come up with the goods. I don’t give a shit what they say, why don’t they release it (that’s if they have it) under another name, are they really that dumb?
As for iso loaders being illegal, that is utter bullshit. An ISO loader is a legally written program, it is how you use the program where legal issues begin to arise. When I had a PS2, I put a hard drive in it, used HD loader and played my games off the HD. Why? Faster access times and the fact the games which I purchased legally would only have to be removed from their case on rare occasions, keeping the discs free from scratches.
In most countries, you are allowed to back up copies of copyrighted material of which you have legally obtained on the condition that it is for your personal use only. Otherwise, it just becomes piracy and the ensuing legal battles that come with it.
I would like an ISO loader, mainly because I just can’t be stuffed changing discs all the time.
If ISO loaders are a waste of time, and homebrew isn’t your scene, then wtf are you doing here in the first place?
*Applauds*
I personally do not believe paradox ever had a loader. If they did, and it was thwarted after an upgrade to the firmware, it would still be working for a number of people who have not upgraded.
The best thing they could to is publish what used to work, and allow a far greater mind share attack the problem. Their silence suggests their never was a working loader.
Hope I’m wrong ;-)
An External USB hard drive has to be converted to FAT32 for the PS3 to recognise it, as an NTFS file system is not supported.
So the internal HDD is a FAT variation, maybe Sony made there own FAT64?.
Is it possible that Sony have opted to use the ExFAT file system. Do they have any exFAT Applications that allow for browsing such a file system.

I wonder if the 64KB blocks that appear at certain intervals could be some type of hash against the data before it? Sort of like a CRC or parity check, but likely something more advanced. Then if you altered the data, you’d have to also adjust that block as well. I haven’t actually looked at the data, just tossing out an idea. BluRay has two keys, so maybe the PS3 HDD does too.
PARADOX never had shit. none of their NFO hints made any sense. In one they state that there is no tiff or image exploit, but yet in another they say go the way of dark_alex did for psp (i think) wich…was a tiff exploit, (hen) if i remember. all they id was make people believe they had something and all along they had nothing. kept saying “in time, soon enough, at euro launch” blah blah blah… and guess what euro launch came, and went and still NOTHING. to me paradox is just some internt gang of nerds that dont know a damn thing.
Come on now..you afford to buy a $600 systerm what is $60…broke after? this aint PSP all over again updrade ur shyt alot goddies at PSN background downding Demo Etc. and some usefull things like foldings@home.i’ll tell you like this, okay let’s say an ISO loader came out later you have the fw. reqiured only 1.00 – 1.10. and a month later a buggy PS3 just broke down gave up for whaever reason and now you had no choice buy to send back to the manufacture (SONY) thats is and guess what bro a week after you got youre self a fw. 1.6 LOL all this months you waited for well you got the point (i’m sorry i’m not english mother tongue too)!!!
Don’t fuck my brane!
i just got fucked big time me thinking byeing a euro ps3 so any help u can give me to fuck sony back would be will happy to here it
forget xbox and ps3,the time is coming for
SEGA FUTURE….the future is here
and i belive SEGA FUTURE kicking MICROSOFTS XBOX and SONYS Ps3 ass
takes time for a loader but it takes time but paradox i think some 1 else can come up with a loader like dark alex =D hes god =D
So many naysayers. It could be a very big possibility that the tools and methods used to run the iso loader were those that the average person could not…or would not do to their PS3. (see the video of a burned PS2 game on PS3…I’d never take a saw or knife to my PS3 casing…let alone mess with the blue-ray drive)
It may not be as difficult as you think in loading software on to a PS3 HDD. If someone could come up with a program much like Xplorer360 for the Xbox360 which allows you to view and change the contents of the 360s HDD. I know it would be a pain in the ass to keep removing and refitting the PS3s HDD, but it could be a start.
If only someone smarter than I am could come up with such a program that runs under windows or linux, it would be a leap in the right direction. Then some other smartass would have to find out how to run unsigned code on the PS3s XMB. One thing I know for sure, it’s easier said than it’s done.
whts the point of this post does it mean iso loader is not gonna be release tilll billions of year later?
Who cares about this? The only thing that would be cool is the iso loader. Not all this other stuff thats coming out. We dont need the Red Kawa or Orb or any of those programs that allow us to view files on our pc’s.
What we need is for Sony to enable Network Connectivity thru the XMB so that i can browse my home network. Let me setup a WPA TKIP connection to my server at home. Then i can pull my media without these other apps. Also allow dvix support, my sony DVD player allows for all that. Like instead of Folding, add these supports instead. Thats more useful as a full Media Center. I hope this gets added, as it stands the PS3 right now for me is pretty useless other than for playing games.
If this is suppose to be a Media Center then their should not be a need for hacking, it should have added file format support with each update.
My $.02
ich habe ein hack of nazi for ps3 hail the german fuckers are loloL stupid because they say ists iso but ists not
LOLOL HITLA! By the way everyone just to clarify some things. the ps3’s format is fucked up and the other os is EXT3 in case anyone cares.
One thing really piss me off!!! Those fucks @ paradox have made a promise few month ago.. They were going to release the iso loader for ps3. Once became to difficult they’ve backed off. But it’s ok, they”re already loosing their credibility..
What if the reason why each hard drive is locked to each PS3 is because the PS3’s serial number (or some other unique number to the PS3) is actually the encryption key for the file system?
Not sure i care about the ps3 loader yet, – i bought the 2 best games on release for my package – motorstorm and resistance. – although im kinda wishing i got f1 instead of resistance. – BUT anyhow.
Theres nothing else i actually want on ps3. I download my x360 games, and everything good is on x360 at the moment.
Im sure that by the time good ps3 games are coming out, the exploits will start coming out also.
