- Precision Zoom and Resolution settings (Internet Browser)
Precision Zoom: You can automatically enlarge to optimal viewing size the area on the screen where the pointer is located. By analyzing the Web page source, the system automatically calculates the best enlargement ratio based on the area where the pointer is located. Select here for details.
Adjusting the resolution: You can adjust Web page size for optimal viewing based on the PS3™ system’s video output resolution. A setting to reduce flickering of the screen when outputting in interlace mode has also been added.

You can now download and use the Folding@home™ program. Folding@home™ is a distributed computing project that is run by Stanford University. The goal of the project is to research protein folding mechanisms in the hope that this will lead to medical treatments for related diseases. Using the Folding@home™ program, you can participate in this project over the Internet. Note that the program must first be downloaded and installed on your PS3™ system
- Remote play via an access point
- Support for playback of BD-RE (Blu-ray Disc Rewritable) ver 3.0 has been added.
- The PS3™ system can now automatically detect an HDMI connection to a TV. If the PS3™ system is turned on with an HDMI cable connected, the screen for switching video output settings will be displayed automatically.
- Does not function unless the TV that is connected by the HDMI cable is turned on.
- # Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish, Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional) have been added as options in [System Language] under [System Settings].
- You can now select the character set to be used for file names under [System Settings] > [Character Set].
- [Enable WMA Playback] has been added as an option under [System Settings].
- [Disc Auto-Start] has been added as an option under [System Settings].
- You can now restore backed up data to another PS3™ system under [System Settings] > [Backup Utility].
- You can now register a keyboard and a mouse under [Accessory Settings] > [Register Bluetooth® Device].
- Support for playback of DSD (Direct Stream Digital) discs has been added.
- Motion JPEG and AVCHD (.m2ts) have been added as playable formats.
- [Start New Chat] has been added as an option.
- [Download Management] has been added as a feature.
The highly anticipated March firmware update, 1.60, is now available for download via “System Update” on your PS3 console. Introduced is background downloading, remote play for 20GB units, and much more… I’ll post the official changes once Sony updates their site with that info.
It’s a safe bet many security holes have been patched as well, so if you’re one of many waiting for the ISO loader, don’t upgrade just yet. Stay tuned!

Any day now the final parts that I need to make my own 500 gig (portable) hyperdrive will arrive by UPS, so I’ll be ready. I don’t update, but I do download the updates from the site and save them on my pc in case I’ll ever need to go to a certain firmware level later on.

you have to be within 30 feet of your ps3 60g for it to remote play. i want to remote play from over the net from a wifi spot.

i updated to this firmware on my 20 gig ps3 my 60 is still 1.10 and the update is cool for 20 gig allowing remote play no more auto start of game and new QWERTY keyboard volume in chat increased so its pretty cool stuff just wish theres was music while in chat or maybe able to view pics
Well, looks like $ony stuffed 1.6 with a bounce of new features.. Still(at least 4 me) this update ain’t worth! I’d rather been able to play isos.

Its finally here, but im kind of dissappointed… I was expecting things like actually CHANGING my background, but they just allow you to download things while you skim through your XMB… And WTF is it with this fucking stanford program??? Now they wanna use the Ps3 to save lives or the environment… C’mon Fuck that shit and give us shit we can fucking use.. i don’t care about iso loading as i never done it on psp so i don’t care on ps3. ill just buy my games.

no update required to play your resistance (already bought it weeks ago), because your retail launch will meet requirements already… “furnished-up-to-date” before that game was released..
Im disappointed with this update, If they made my PS3 be able to read PAL DISKS the I would have updated
well, how do u turn on the ps3 with ur psp if ur out of town, say im in another state, and i want to log on to the ps3 with my psp, but dont want to leave the damn ps3 on for the time being that im gone, if it has that feature then its kinda cool, if not then its a wast of a update realy.
this is a good update…fixing addressed issues….now all we wait for is the iso loader…i’ll give it about 2-3 more weeks before any new news comes out bout the loader.
If you’ve updated to 1.54 or beyond, then you’ll be waiting a lot longer than 2-3 weeks for a loader. You’ll be lucky to have a working one in 3+ months. For those of us with firmware 1.51 and below we could be using a loader any day now, because it’s done and they’ve been holding off until the UK launch for obvious reasons.
Why are people waiting for ISO loaders? Even if there is an ISO loader, you’ll need a Blu-Ray writer so that you can store games which are bigger than the average DVD9. I mean Blu-Ray writer ain’t exactly cheap at the moment nor is blank Blu-Ray disks. I can understand all the ISO loader business with the PSP, but I don’t think at the moment it’ll work for the PS3.
Additionally Gran Turismo HD 2.0 is available for download if you can access Playstation Network. Which I believe you can only access PN if you have 1.6 in UK.
It’s amazing when people think that games for consoles have to be burned. No, you put the ISO’s on large harddrives that you attach to the PS3. Bonuses: no disc swapping, faster load times, the harddrive is faster than what comes with the PS3, free, etc. As for download games, those will come too. I’d put money on it.

Go over to PSP-Hacks and get the firmware updates from there (if you’re not a homebrew user) - or get DA’s custom firmware….
having a ps3 is great but I think its games are too expensive and we have to think to buy a game at least ten times. actually we need to be waiting for ISO loader to play a game in it.

…I am a PSP fanatic and am now planning on buying a PS3 (I’m in the UK) Does anybody know:
* What firmware the UK models ship with
* What is the best firmware version to go with, I dont want to get into a situatuin like some people have with the psp where they cannot downgrade…etc Or shall I just leave it and ot upgrade.
* Is the PSP XMB system similar to the psps? I.e. is it feasable that a custom firmware will be developed / is in development?

The UK models will probrably come with the latest FW (1.6). Since you won’t be able to downgrade as of yet, I just reccommend waiting until a downgrader comes for 1.6.
whats the deal with no mp3’s during gameplay wtf x-box 360 had it since its release.
what a waste of an update. the only worthwhile on it is the multitask, but i dont even use it. the whole browser magnifying bit sucks too. Folding at Home okay i ill give you that, but why did you included it in an update, would have been better as a choice on PSN. Whay wasnt the mp3 Copy issue resolved? When i go to copy my music i have in the Artist folder sometimes it puts in sometimes it doesn’t. sometimes it doesnt even copy it at all. Aside from some possible security it fixed…this update is pretty useless to me.
the only way i would ever update is when you can play mp3s during gameplay(unless they had devhook for the ps3). what am i gonna do with remote play. is my ps3 controller not good enough. if the 360 can do it than the ps3 should be able to as well. it took a whole extra year to release and for what. i like the ps3 but they should really be working harder on some usefull features.
