Typically you’d find DickyDick’s PiMPStreamer updates over at PSP-Hacks; however, this release primarily relates to the PS3, thus, it’s here!
DickyDick1969 has now incorporated MP3 support. Stream any MP3(s) from a Windows PC to your PS3 (or Wii, for matter). Set volume, play, and pause functions have also been added; click on the little hat to activate.
Once installed, add some media paths (both FLV videos & mp3s are supported), and point your PS3’s web browser to the PC’s IP address running PiMPStreamer, on port 3333 (it’s the default). i.e.) http://192.168.1.43:3333
Enjoy!

Comments (100)Although this is nothing major for the moment, a hacker by the name of “hacked2123″ has released a proof-of-concept mpeg that will cause the PS3’s XMB to crash.
Here is the new file, I reproduced the result with another file and worked on cleaning it up till I knew where things were going wrong. I hope this is useful.
And included is the image of the crucial points. The first is the mixing point between header and footer. The second is the very last byte before the the crash will not occur.
Its been confirmed to work with firmware 1.10 and 1.11.
Certainly a nice discovery; perhaps a method to inject unsigned code will follow… *shrug*

Comments (29)Update: Here’s the official 1.60 changes:
Precision Zoom: You can automatically enlarge to optimal viewing size the area on the screen where the pointer is located. By analyzing the Web page source, the system automatically calculates the best enlargement ratio based on the area where the pointer is located. Select here for details.
Adjusting the resolution: You can adjust Web page size for optimal viewing based on the PS3™ system’s video output resolution. A setting to reduce flickering of the screen when outputting in interlace mode has also been added.
You can now download and use the Folding@home™ program. Folding@home™ is a distributed computing project that is run by Stanford University. The goal of the project is to research protein folding mechanisms in the hope that this will lead to medical treatments for related diseases. Using the Folding@home™ program, you can participate in this project over the Internet. Note that the program must first be downloaded and installed on your PS3™ system
The highly anticipated March firmware update, 1.60, is now available for download via “System Update” on your PS3 console. Introduced is background downloading, remote play for 20GB units, and much more… I’ll post the official changes once Sony updates their site with that info.
It’s a safe bet many security holes have been patched as well, so if you’re one of many waiting for the ISO loader, don’t upgrade just yet. Stay tuned!

Comments (38)Here’s a snazzy Java alternative to Red Kawa… Featured is a simple method for sharing media (mp3s, mp4s, etc…) with your PS3 from any PC running damons2k2’s Vilvic Media Center. Instructions for configuring and using the server are well documented in “readme.doc.” The media center is accessed through the PS3 web browser, so with that in mind, this will also serve useful for the Wii or any other HTTP-compliant device, which is also capable of media playback, of course.
At least until Sony features the ability to mount/access a network share, this should get the job done. Nice work, damons2k2.

Comments (7)Tom Kiss, from TomKiss.net, was fortunate enough to attend Sony’s ThreeSpeech’s event in London. After the Q & A portion, Tom was able to ask Phil Harrison the question, “When will the PS3’s remote play functionality be available from outside the home?” Something I’ve been wondering & looking forward to myself… The answer, “Remote Play from wireless hotspots? It’s included in the 1.6 update.”
This is definitely exciting news for PS3 owners who aren’t concerned about losing their speculated ISO loader by upgrading to the latest firmware revision; you never know, maybe this will open more holes for hackers to play with. :)
Presumably firmware 1.6 will be released later this month to coincide with the European launch. Supposedly the ISO loader will be released around the same time, too.
Only time will tell, stay tuned!

Comments (52)According to the most recent MotorStorm release from Paradox, they claim to have found more exploitable holes in the PS3 firmware; up to 1.51, that is. In fact, by the sounds of it, there are several potential vulnerabilities. The NFO hints at a possible TIFF exploit which may be used to run unsigned code; i.e.) the largely anticipated & long overdue ISO loader. But, the wait continues — must be patient!
Hmzzz i think we have news to give do we? Ever wondered why the PS3 is such a better machine than a xbox360? simply because they implement too much stuff in one time! “SCEI” dont do that, you need to learn a bit more from Microsoft on this part even when they have forgotten a hypervision hack on kernel 4532 and 4548 they fixed it very fast! And what do we see on the PS3? Up until firmware 1.51 we still see holes! Why? You guys dont have the right persons to work with or is it just the pressure from the big boss? So for now dont update higher than 1.51 since 1.54 hasnt yet been tested, and 1.51 had a few tiny things fixed, but it didnt stop us much :-D Ohhh btw ever wondered if those updates are required on a disc? Actually all games up to now work without any update :D At least work fine on 1.32 :-) Thats all for now! So seeya tiff tiff and bye bye ;-)
thanks ELASU, and of course Paradox.
Comments (52)Tell me this doesn’t look cool… Not a hack per-say, but it does give us PS3 owners something to look forward too, aside from the speculated ISO loader. ;)
“PS3 Home” is Sony’s response to Microsoft’s Xbox Live! service. Reminding me of an enhanced version of Runescape, this virtual society is sure to split your wig. Very cool!

Thanks Alessandro.
Comments (96)Update: Reportedly it works as of FW 1.51. This, I never knew.
Quick news flash… Its been reported with the latest 1.54 firmware update you’re able to utilize the Xbox Live Vision Cam on your PS3! That’s all — just sharing this bit of information with you. Thanks FRAK. :)
