CJPC has released an incredibly useful application for the PS3 using the OtherOS Open Platform concept. PS3 Swiss Army Knife (SAK), appropriately titled, provides a web interface that enables the following:
Note: With SAK v1.00 you can now dump your PS3/Blu-Ray disc images without installing PS3 Linux, however, you must still format the PS3 HDD prior (as if you were going to install PS3 Linux) in order to install/use the OtherOS– this is a $ony requirement unfortunately.
How to install: using a memory or USB stick, or CD-R, etc… Copy “otheros.bld” (included in the RAR archive) & “otheros.self” (see below) to “/PS3/OTHEROS/”. Insert your removable media and from the XMB (Settings -> System Settings) run “Install Other OS.” Set the default boot to OtherOS, reboot, and you should be good to go.

YOU NEED A PS3 USB KEYBOARD. NO-ONE WILL TELL YOU THIS BEFOREHAND. I FOUND THIS OUT THE HARD WAY.
Like you I was panicking as I couldn’t get the default PS3 OS to boot but the solution is this - switch off at the back, switch back on again but hold down the I/O button on the front for approx 5 seconds till you hear a beep, thats the reset. The PS3 will then boot the standard PS3 OS.

Sony has allowed us to the PS3 feature wise, to letting us installing the Windows XP, Linux (another different kind of OS(operating sytem) nor any other kinds of competible OS that may exist. You can install an OS within your PS3’s hard drive and use the OS that way. i mean rather than from a straight a PC, the PS3 is your brand new PC
instead of installing an OS within the ps3, people are creating a program to taking advantage of the “Other OS” to do something else.

okay so i loaded this but i dont have a usb keyboard how do i exit and boot back to ps3os?
Turn the PS3 off by using the hard reset button in the back, then switch it back on. The LED light will be red. Hold the front power button on until you hear a second beep or about proximately five seconds. There you go, problem fixed.
i figured it out… system software can be forcibly booted up even when an “Other OS” has been selected as ｢Default System」by holding down the Power button for about 5 seconds or more at power on,

Does anyone know how to backup any PS3 games? I’ve tried Resistance and couldn’t get it. It kept saying that the folder exists, and username/password was wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
ive backed up motorstorm using this progam but when i backup a blu ray movie it creates the iso s but how do i extract them, i used brdgen to extract motorstorm, but it wont extract a movie,,ANY HELP

it would take way to long to download fifty gigs of data through bittorrent so its way to much trouble unless you give to someone else yourself on a hard drive

Guys, as he said, backup your iso’s and wait for loader, i also wanna backup my original cd’s but its not this right time to do so =)), i wanna finish the games i have first, then once the loaders released, we will rock and roll ^^, all games will be open as iso, just like in PSP, use this programe wisley to make Iso’s and send them to your pc using network, in a backup file. then get ur psp OS back to like it was and go on playing games, once loaders comes, reinstall this OTHEROS and enjoy running all games, the once u had and the downloaded games from torrents.

I’m afraid I’m just not that bright. So this OS will let us load a image of a game or Blu-ray movie to our HDD. But would be lost once we format the HDD requiring us to back it up to another HDD right. And are they executable from the HDD?

A. Read the Original Post.
Q. What do I do with the ISO file now?
A. Use winrar and create an archive with the iso file. Use STORE COMPRESSION, then use SPLIT INTO VOLUMES and select CD700: 700MB (I know it sounds strange, but just trust me) hit okay, and let your pc do its magic for about 8-10 hours. Now burn each seperate archive to a CD, then delete the original. Use NERO 8 to burn your cd’s as NERO 7 doesn’t support Blu-Ray CD Images. Congratulations. You have now officially backed-up your Blu-Ray Disc to CD-R. Now put all of the CD’s away in a safe place and wait for the ISO loader to come out. Then Simply copy the contents of all the CD’s you made onto your computer, and extract the ISO file.
If there are any more questions, you should probably not be attempting to even use a PS3, and should promptly go buy a Nintendo Wii instead.

You’re an idiot, he means they will be in Blu Ray format but burnt to a cd as a data disk. So the CD will hold it in it’s bluray format…but it doesn’t mean the cd is a “blue ray cd”. Fucking tard.

well ps3 people, good news is the guy who hacked the 360 fw c4eva is working on the ps3, so i say it wont be long till a loader or something like that will be out. :) ive just got a ps3, still happy playin with 360 at the mo… C4EVA is God when it comes to FW!

*cough* To be honest what is the point in backing up your games? - I know with the xbox 360 you can run backed up games , but I dont think its gonna be that easy with the PS3. Could be waiting a long time til them backup’s come out your cupboards to play ;-)

guys try this send your iso files to your pc (movies only), put them on your desktop, change the file name to have the extention .mpeg and watch them on your dvd program….. Miight work
