diabolix has successfully compiled an Xbox 360 controller driver for Fedora Core 5. What exactly does this mean? Well if you’re running linux on your PS3 you can now use your wired Xbox360 controller with it! Its been tested with Snes9x and Doom under FC5-PPC.
Copy this installer to your PS3’s HDD linux partition and connect your controller via USB. Run “install-xbox360-driver.sh” initially from the terminal, enter your root password (if you aren’t root already), and viola — a functioning Xbox360 controller on your PS3!

No. It only works under linux. Sony needs to release some information about the driver framework for their firmware for it to work with ps3 games. Altho internally, the controllers are so different I doubt this can happen. All of the ps3’s buttons can mesure how much pressure you are applying to them, the 360 controller can only measure the triger buttons (At least this driver can, not sure if its different when its connected to a 360). Racing games rely on this, the harder you press the brake button, the harder you brake.

Who on earth would choose to use a ps3 controller rather than the 360 controller? the PoS3 controller is very badly laid out and rather uncomfortable to use IMHO, I have both machines and there is no way I could use a sixaxis for extended periods as I do for playing CoD4 on live for instance.

i also like the 360 controller better. Mostly because the joysticks are much tighter. Feel so loose on Sixaxis. Also i prefer the trigger ( both of these deal with FPS cause that’s mostly what i play ). Some games you can change the controls to this, but still doesnt work the same. Really the main thing the 360 came through with was the controller.

you can only use the controller with a wire under linux. bluetooth doesn’t work for homebrew yet.

The 360 controller feels better and is more responsive I think. The ps3 are overpriced for what they come with and what they can do. Wouldnt waste my 360 controller on a ps3.
Get with the times, the xbox pad since the first ever xbox had preasure sensitive buttons and the 360 pad is the same.
The playstation pad howeaver has only just introduced this feature after many many years of it being available on the original xbox and the 360 since launch.

i hate to say it folks, but i work for an software and hardware company…and from a hardware standpoint, the 360 is truly better and easier to program for than the ps3…. i have all three major systems myself….and enjoy each for what they are worth…. but id rather waste time playing games, then flaming on some forum…. but remeber this, in the real world talking smack like this would get your ass kicked….and being all the gaming conventions and such i end up at…i know most shit tallking gamers cannot stand up to a wet paper bag, let alone a real world opponent.

Not necessarily-The 360 is a weaker console, hardware wise (in most aspects, anyway). Still, the 360 is a better console, which is the bit that matters. More good games, more online services, better controller and better gaming. :)

I own all three systems PS@, 360, Wii and more. I don’t really share or understand the desire to be so abusive or argumentative about video game systems…. I play on a 73′ Mitsubishi that will make you motion sick. The systems are designed different and all have their merits. PS3 is incredibly difficult to program for hence the lack of a good game library to date. However being blueray when dit is isplayed in 1080p or better the graphics and picture quality are stunning. Realizing the average consumer doesnt have a set that will push 1080 or higher what does it really matter?
The 360’s potential is completely unrealized as far as what it can push out as well and the game library is second to none. Both systems have a long ways to go. The WII hands down for the price and game library is by far the best IMO for the casual gamer. I think the people really getting screwed are the consumers laying down 500 to 600 for a system then 60 a pop for games. Just my opinoin.

The full potential of the 360 was known before it was even released. The 360 was/is made up of already existing PC Parts/Processors. It’s limits are EXACTLY the same as the Computers that were out at the time it was released.
On the other-hand, the PS3 is completely new technology.

Amazing? Not exactly the greatest game ever. Yeah, it was a great story, but take away the previous games and backstory, and you’re left with a few hours of cutscenes, some toilet humour and some good stealth/action bits.

Both the 360 and PS3 upscale games (not films, however) from 720p.

The PS3 controller is garbage. The 360 stick layout is perfect for shooters, and anything else save fighters. Don’t forget fanfools that the PS controller was designed with d-pad as the primary input for controll, the sticks were added later.

I have both a PS3 and a 360 (and previously a Wii, which I sold).
The 360 controller is overall far more robust and ergonomic than the PS3 controller.
The PS3 controller is simply a rehash of previous generations, in which it was still poor in most serious gamer’s opinions.
The PS3 controller has marginally better response times.
The 360 controller is heavier. Some like that, some don’t.
Now, onto my opinions.
The 360 is a superior gaming platform, a superior console. The PS3 is certainly the most powerful, and has the most potential (though not in the online department, it seems. My experiences with PSN haven’t been pleasant.), but until developers utilise the platform, the 360 will remain the dominant gaming console. Yes, I’m aware the Wii outsells both, but that’s due to the casual gaming market boom.
Regardless, if the clever hackers who whipped up the drivers could make it work with normal PS3 games, I’d use it. I hate the flimsy feel off the PS3 controller, not to mention the button layout feels awkward.

I have both console and they’re both great! I love playing games on the 360 and watching movies on the ps3. That’s because the xbox360 controller is a lot better than the ps3 controller when it comes to shooter games, which is my favorite type of game. It’s not that the ps3 controller’s really bad, it’s only the sticks that are really bothering me. You can’t realy aim that well with it.

Are you that stupid? You can go out and buy a play and charge kit for the 360 for a few bucks and have rechargeable batteries. Its not as convenient as having them come with the controller but its not a reason to trade systems.
